I regularly eat at FIREHOUSE SUBS (some twice a week) and today, May 6, 2026, around 2 pm, I ate at…read moreFIREHOUSE SUBS in Dothan, AL located at 3850 W. Main Street, Dothan, AL (this was my first time eating at any of the FIREHOUSE SUBS in Dothan, AL). I ordered a large firehouse HERO and presented my military ID (as I always do at other FIREHOUSE SUBS locations). The person taking my order (Mar F) asked why I was showing him ID (as I held my military ID up for him to verify). I replied it was for my military discount. He said we do not give discounts for military or anything else. I did not want to argue as there was many others in line behind me, and I was hungry, so I ordered a large Firehouse HERO. I have eaten at MANY, MANY FIREHOUSE SUBS within 100 to 150 miles of Dothan, AL (often twice a week) and I always receive a military discount of 10% plus free chips and a drink as appreciation for my military service. I originally expected to pay around $13 for a nice meal, but I actually paid $18.95 for an over steamed/heated soggy sandwich that was constantly falling apart as I ate it, an old tasting tough skinned pickle that was obviously not fresh and it was not crisp, and, when getting my iced tea, there was some sort of rubber hose attached to the tea dispenser (both the regular and decaf tea) which sticks several inches into the cup a customer fills, and once the cup is full, you cannot removed the cup from underneath the tea spout without spilling tea all over the counter (plus, this is NOT SANITARY as people refill the cup they have already drink from and this is probably a HEALTH VIOLATION). I was extremely disappointed at the service received, the quality of the food (soggy sandwich and a tough old pickle). Also, Dothan (imo) has a very high number of veterans (retirees included) along with active duty military, I highly suggest FIREHOUSE SUBS in Dothan, Al consider immediately implementing a military discount program (along with senior citizen/AARP discounts) AND advertise it once implemented. While I will definitely remain a loyal customer of FIREHOUSE SUBS (and I always place money in the FIREHOUSE box), rest assured, I will NOT be dining at any of the locations in DOTHAN ALABAMA again.

Passing through Dalton, AL on our way back to Atlanta, we spotted a billboard for Slim Chickens and…read morefigured, "Why not?" Well... let's just say Slim Chickens turned into slim pickin's. The menu is actually pretty impressive. They offer tenders, wings, sandwiches, salads, desserts, milkshakes--you name it. Looking at the menu had us thinking we were about to stumble onto our next favorite chicken spot. Since we weren't starving, we ordered the 3 & 3 combo: three tenders, three wings, fries, Texas toast, a drink, and an extra dipping sauce for about $14. We chose the chicken fried so we could sample two sauces--the Slim Sauce and the Cayenne Ranch. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite match the menu hype. As you can see from the photo, the chicken was... well... slim. Even worse, it didn't have much flavor on its own. The sauces ended up doing all the heavy lifting. The Slim Sauce was pretty decent, and I actually think it would've been much better if the chicken had been tossed in it while it was hot instead of using it as a dip. The Cayenne Ranch was okay, but nothing I'd go out of my way for. Speaking of hot... the chicken wasn't. That's probably the biggest letdown considering they advertise everything as cooked to order. Now, I will give credit where it's due. The staff was friendly, polite, and welcoming, so the service was solid from start to finish. Overall, Slim Chickens wasn't terrible... but it definitely wasn't memorable either. It was edible, but not craveable. I don't see myself making a special trip back. 3 out of 5 stars.

My mom tried the grilled chicken and Mac & cheese bowl and we were all super impressed. That grilled chicken is SO flavorful. Service was great too. The people are so nice. GM was cashiering and acted as an equal to his employees. Love to see a manager who is involved in the day to day and not just barking orders and camping out in the office claiming to be doing paperwork. Our cashier Breanna was an absolute sweetheart and so full of joy. The app has deals and rewards. Make sure to download it.

On our…read moretrips to the panhandle, Flying J serves as a landmark for us on our journey and signifies we are only about 90 minutes from that pearly white sand of PCB! Over the years it has become a stop for us to stretch our legs for the last stretch of the road or for us to fuel up before we hit 431 for the next few hours. In addition to standard pumps, they also feature tractor trailer pumps as well. And in addition to the pumps and all the normal stuff you find in gas stations, you will also find a Denny's here. We are usually passing through, so we have never eaten at the Denny's. Service is always decent here. Nothing spectacular, but nothing terrible. However, the condition and cleanliness of this location leaves something to be desired. I know it is a busy store given its location, but it needs some work. And even if a refresh isn't coming soon...they can at least have someone on staff to ensure the cleanliness is at least monitored and managed. Overall, in the last few years a few newer and better kept gas stations have popped up in the area and we have started shifting our travel habits to swing in those. However in a pinch or if we are interested in breakfast with a fill up, we would swing by Flying J.
