a sub sandwich with meat and vegetables
    Tony R.

It was clean, employees were engaged with the customers. Quick service and seemed happy to be helpful to the customers. I even got a very sincere "Thank You" when I put money in the tip jar.

We drove around a bit, but it was busy in most places and downtown Waynesville was not appealing since the tourists were out in force for the leaves turning. However, Ammon's was right down the road from my hotel, so I figured I would give it a shot. The presentation on the outside reflects what you are going to find on the inside... a no-nonsense eating establishment with tables and chairs, a couple of TV's for sporting events, and a kitchen putting out your standard Southern home cooking. The special of the day had already sold out, along with a couple of other items on the menu, so I went for the flounder and chips. The fish was done fine, and the chips were alright. Nothing really to write home about, but it was definitely edible and filled me up, and for the price it was a fair deal. The staff were nice enough, no issues there, but really I got exactly what I was expecting with a place like this.

Hush puppies were great and so were the onion rings. Peanut butter pie was also very rich and tasted great. I'd come back for other items on the menu. The ambience definitely was like walking into a giant commercial which was interesting as there were ads everywhere lol

Family was willing to wait since the classic fried chicken was very good. Store location and interior is new, but kept VERY cold. Employees on counter register are often uncertain how to place the order correctly. Last take-out visit was one of the worst customer experiences I have ever had. For starters, young man at register gave me incorrect change, even after I went back to counter to correct it. When order finally arrived, I double checked it as standard for me with all take-out orders these days. Part of order was supposed to be 3 classic fried chicken wings (light meat), but was instead 1 wing, and 2 dark meat (leg and thigh). When I took the incorrect portion back to counter to be corrected, I was only then told they were out of chicken wings. After mentioning that he could have told me that when ordering so I could change or cancel the order, he just shrugged at me. After asking to speak with a manager, a young woman came and told me they were completely out of wings to cook and there was nothing she could do. After again mentioning this information could have been passed on when ordering and that the order as filled was unacceptable, she finally offered to refund the order. At this point, she asked me to bring the ENTIRE order back, saying she could only refund the entire order. After bringing the full order back along with original receipt, the manager proceeded to ring up a refund for less than I paid. When I pointed this out, she declared that is what my order cost. When I pointed at original receipt she already had crumpled up in her right hand, she started yelling that I was trying to assault a minor and she would call the cops. We finally de-escalated enough that I returned all the change I received after placing the order and she returned my original money. The employees on register need more complete training, and the only manager on duty should be better trained on customer conflict resolution and professionalism.

This restaurant literally sits on the side of a mountain. If it wasn't raining, I would have sat outside or on the porch. Twisted Spoke is clean, casual, friendly, and simple. In regards to the latter, every alcoholic drink is $5-from beer to wine to more. I have never seen that before in my life but I think it's awesome. There is nothing more brilliant in business than simplicity--consumers love it. For food, I got the Meatball Splash. It's really a Meatball Hero without the bread (Meatball Splash isn't on the menu). It's three medium-sized meatballs (at best) with sauce and three pieces of garlic bread. The meatballs were solid, and I usually don't love garlic bread but will eat it, but this might have been the best garlic bread I've ever had. I don't know why I liked it so much. If you're in the Maggie Valley/Cherokee area, definitely go. Also, a couple of other tips.... One, the food in Maggie Valley absolutely blows away the food in Bryson City. It's not even close! So, if you're heading to the NC side of the Smokies and food is a big factor for you, stay in Maggie Valley, not Bryson City. Also, if you're staying in Cherokee and head up to Maggie Valley (or vice versa), don't take take 19. Instead, take the Blue Ridge Parkway. It only adds one minute to your trip and is a way better experience! Enjoy!
