Food-outstanding Friendliness-terrific…read moreSpeed of service-they need to work on Quaint medium-size restaurant setting. Multiple televisions throughout. Wish they had closed captioning on them but I guess we should all be more engaged with our company than watching television. Menu includes wings, fried pickles, chicken tenders, shrimp basket, hot dogs, smash burgers, salads and more. The service is a tad bit slow but we did visit there right at lunchtime on a weekday. Each table has a roll of paper towels on it which I love. That saves the server some time. Each table also has mustard, hot sauce and salt and pepper on it. But no silverware on the table. After waiting 20 minutes, we were told they don't have any potato salad. And when the order came out, it was someone else's. When the correct order came out, the Furman burger didn't have the pickles or grilled onions. It had bacon on it which the menu didn't indicate was on the burger. The server explained bacon comes on the burger, it just isn't written. She went to the back and brought me a small cup of pickles and a small cup of grilled onions. The food was really good. It is worth the wait as long as you have the time and the right company to sit with

We almost always bring home half of our meal when we eat there. The service is always friendly and attentive. Yes, it's going to take a bit for your food to come out, but it's well worth the wait. The restaurant itself is always clean, and well arranged. I have only eaten at the one in Waynesville, but am looking forward to trying the Canton location. We highly recommend Furman's. ******* Pricing ******* The menu pricing does not match the price on your receipt. I assume this is due to a new computer setup that they have. That said, this was the second time we have been there since the new computer system was installed. They still haven't fixed this pricing issue. The variance in price between the menu and the receipts isn't huge. It won't stop me from eating there. However, it is a bit off putting that the pricing doesn't match.

Hush puppies were great and so were the onion rings. Peanut butter pie was also very rich and tasted great. I'd come back for other items on the menu. We drove around a bit, but it was busy in most places and downtown Waynesville was not appealing since the tourists were out in force for the leaves turning. However, Ammon's was right down the road from my hotel, so I figured I would give it a shot. The presentation on the outside reflects what you are going to find on the inside... a no-nonsense eating establishment with tables and chairs, a couple of TV's for sporting events, and a kitchen putting out your standard Southern home cooking. The special of the day had already sold out, along with a couple of other items on the menu, so I went for the flounder and chips. The fish was done fine, and the chips were alright. Nothing really to write home about, but it was definitely edible and filled me up, and for the price it was a fair deal. The staff were nice enough, no issues there, but really I got exactly what I was expecting with a place like this.

We visit Waynesville a couple times a year and I have passed by this place (on the motorcycle)…read moredozens of times without a thought of stopping. Then, I heard about the place on Facebook on one of those "unique out of the way places to eat" posts. The post peaked my interest, especially, since I knew exactly where it was, so, I YELPED it and made plans to go. On our last visit to Waynesville, I put it on my cheap places to try list. We had my in-laws in tow, so I'm reporting the opinions of 4 people. My wife and her dad got the country fried steak. They said it was okay, but nothing special and they wouldn't get it again. My MIL and I both got the Meatloaf sandwich. I got mine on a hoagie bun and my MIL got hers on Texas toast. We both enjoyed our meatloaf sandwiches. Mine was worth going back for another. My MIL also enjoyed half of hers and gave me the other half. The Hoagie bun was definitely the better decision. This is a cheap diner with cheap diner food. The atmosphere is just what it looks like in the pictures and it's exactly what we were looking for. The staff is very friendly. Our waitress tried to sell us some of their homemade desserts, but, unfortunately we already had ingredients and plans for an apple tart, back at the cabin. We will definitely visit this place again, on our next trip. I'll get another meatloaf sandwich, (it was really outstanding) my wife will get something other than the fried steak and we'll both grab a couple of those good looking homemade desserts they had in their display case. We spend a lot of money eating out, when we travel, so I always sprinkle in a couple of cheap places, in order to afford a few pricier, more upscale places. This place is exactly what you should expect after reading the reviews and viewing the pics. I'll try to remember to get some pics next time.

French fries were crinkle cut which are our favorite. Hush puppies and fried okra delicious. Pepsi products here and they were delicious. So many fountain drinks aren't mixed right and taste terrible but this place has great fountain drinks! Service was great and staff were friendly. 3 of us at for like $36 so that's a bonus. The restaurant also serves hand dipped ice cream and shakes. They have homemade pies for dessert. They have a few picnic tables outside next to the river and some beautiful flowers
