I don't think I've ever written a review for Subway before but there's a good reason for that.. most subways are perfectly fine. However, this location is just the worst! Came on 4/20/24 at 5:30pm, and one of the workers was so rude and was literally yelling at me. Then proceeds to ask the same questions again and again.. DO NOT visit this Subway. The staff is rude. One particular employee (short Hispanic) on Nov 23, 2025 thought it was ok to yell at everyone and in particular one teenage girl, bringing her to tears. They ran out of several ingredients and the store wasn't even that busy. Maybe 6 people. We stopped in Kettleman on the way to the beach. Went into the Mobil gas station to get a Subway sandwich. First off the four menu screens were off. Asked why and was told, Not working. So I ordered a Spicy Italian footlong. Worker verified I didn't want the one with ham. Got the sandwich made and went to pay. Sandwich was $15.49 plus tax! I was not happy. This shop upcharged $2.50 for the sandwich. And I didn't know because the menu screens weren't working. Traveling is expensive enough without getting slammed for an everyday sandwich. My advice, don't stop here. And the topper, no place to sit inside. Was told there was a bench outside. It's 100 degrees outside and no shade. read more

The owners should know that their closing employee on 6/14/25 is lazy as well as rude. Arrived at 8:35 pm (9pm close listed online and the place is lit up with open sign on). Employee is on her phone in the back in clear view of myself and 2 other waiting customers. I politely asked if they were still open (since all signs point to YES) and she rudely told me no, since she needed to clean up and put things away. I mentioned they should change the hours online and turn off their sign then. The funny part is that she wasn't cleaning or doing closing duties anyways. Plus, that's her job to do AFTER business hours. Lost revenue for 3+ sandwiches all because she didn't want to do her job during their posted hours. I won't be coming back. read more

$13 veggie delights with $2 charge for extra cheese ? Went in here expecting usual subway prices and got gouged for $57 for three sandwiches ! Prices couldn't be seen in rolling menu board and were written so small that it is hard to read for the few seconds the right screen is visible. They do not accept coupons. The restroom is not very good. There is limited seating. That being said, it's inside a gas station mini-mart and the sandwiches turned out about average from what you'd expect at a regular subway, although the prices are a bit higher. This Subway restaurant is located next to a gas station and is very small but gets the work done. Just stopped by to get some subs in the morning before we continued on with our road trip to Vegas! Bought two footlong sandwiches with Rotisserie-style Chicken and a Veggie Patty one. We always ask for Italian Herbs and Cheese bread and almost all veggies in our sandwiches. Also, add 2-3 types of sauces. Gets a tad messy to eat but absolutely delicious! The restrooms are okay, not super cleanly maintained but works. read more

The short Hispanic woman was so unbelievably rude to my partner that a group of three customers asked him if he was okay after his interaction with her. He was standing directly in front of her at the counter and she kept yelling "NEXT CUSTOMER, NEXT CUSTOMER" and waving her hands in the air. All he could say was, "are you talking to me?" Like, what, I'm standing right here ready to order, the appropriate thing to say is "what can I get for you?" in a normal toned voice with your hands not in the air waving side to side. Clearly the issues reside within the woman and my partner is fine but seems ridiculous to bully your customers. Not our problem someone pissed in your cheerios, lady. *update: Come to find out via Yelp either the same woman has been doing this for 6+ years or they train their employees to act bizarre and rude. read more

My first visit to this restaurant was very pleasant. On a road trip and I haven't eaten all day. A sandwich sounded perfect. The service I received was excellent. I notified the workers of my allergies and they were more than happy to accommodate without hesitation. I was provided with top notch customer service and if ever in the area again, I'd definitely swing by. Check them out!! Side note: This restaurant is attached to a gas station. Convenient one stop spot for everything. Oh and you may want to avoid the restroom, it's not very clean but keep in mind its share with gas stations patrons. read more

Although I don't think this is a one-star Subway, it definitely deserves a low rating for the fact that they do not do any Subway promotions (i.e. $5 foot longs even for the basic sandwiches) and the employees seem extremely disinterested in what they are serving. They have ingredients like every other Subway but often seem wilted or not as fresh, and the sandwiches come out super small. Although I disagree with the general statement that this Subway sucks because its a counter in a gas station stop as many other fast food places are the same along I5, I do agree that it could be better run. Let me just say...it's tiny. There's maybe five tables. But it's a great place to stop if you don't want to go to the standard fast food fare. It's easy off, easy on to I5. And it's connected to a gas station if you need to fill up. We usually park up in the four slots that are next to the building rather than the ones that are off to the side. But we can always find a spot. The sandwiches are assembled well. And the produce is fresh. (I went to one in Arizona where the lettuce was brown and wilted) They give you a cup and you get your own drink, which I like. And the bathroom is OK. Not super clean but not gross. Large multi-holed so to speak so if you have kids, you can bring them all in. The staff are pleasant. We usually stop here because it's consistent and safe. read more

Super busy location, but they were very efficient and made the sandwich to our liking. We had to ask for extra lettuce and veggies, but that's not unusual. We grabbed our food and ate at the very nearby Tesla lounge while our car charged. I would imagine the bathrooms are not super clean, but this location is attached to a gas station. Speaking of the gas station, I walked over there to grab a huge Pepsi from the soda fountain on the gas/convenience side of the building. While I was waiting to pay, I tasted it and it had a strange flavor. The cashier was on the phone and didn't say anything until I walked right up to him and then he said "system's down". Not sure what that meant for me, but I asked him if I could have my wife taste the soda because it seemed off to me. He gestured that was ok, and my wife agreed that it was disgusting. I don't usually write reviews like this but this was the worst subway experience I've ever had. We walked in and the outside of the building looked already sketchy. As soon as we walked inside there was a weird smell. Customer service was rude and blunt and refused to take a $100 bill although there are no signs saying otherwise. I ordered the same thing as I always do (turkey and provolone toasted) and the meat tasted old, the veggies had an off taste to them and my companions all agreed that there was something off about the sandwiches. We continued our drive through the mountain range and I couldn't help but feel absolutely sick to my stomach due to this disgusting food. Will not be eating here again. read more

It's Subway. In a gas station. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best damn Subway for miles. Yes, it's the only Subway for miles, but it has sandwiches, salads, breakfast foods (until 11:00am), and this place has apparently made some changes in the past year. One of the main points being that they do have $5 Footlong specials. Also, there is a TCBY counter right next to it! Gas, Jared's favorite sandwiches, and froyo?! Done. I'm so there. P.S. I can hardly even call it a Subway. First off, I don't like Subway -- I think they tend to be dirty, dingy, low-quality establishments even as fast food goes. This particular Subway (which I thought was in Paso Robles, but I guess all these towns are so tiny it doesn't even matter) was particularly bad. It's not it's own building, but rather a counter inside a gas station. The people who work there were the slowest, least helpful, most unhappy people I've ever ordered a Subway sandwich from. This was the worst Subway I have ever been to. The tables were dirty and the customer service was terrible. The employees couldn't understand the order and the manager was absolutely rude. When I asked for a 6" Italian sub, the woman replied "so you want 3 sandwiches?" When I asked for the works, the next gentleman asked if I wanted tomatoes and lettuce. I thought it may be a misunderstanding, but this persisted for the other sandwiches our party ordered and others in line as well (both before and after us). I'm a Subway fan but this plACE IS IN A GAS STATION AND IS NOT WELL RUN. I agree with the other reviewer who gave it a 1 star. My solution is to stop in Buttonwillow some 50 +/- miles south or in Santa Nella, some miles to the north. Subway franchises and the Asian who runs this place trys to make money by skimping on the veggies. YOu ask for lettuce and they put a little on and look at you as if to dare you to ask for more. When I was younger I loved Subway. Growing up like now, I'd rather go to a non-chained sandwich spot specializing in certain flavors or go there because it is "known for" something. So when my girlfriends and I stopped at Subway I was sort of hesitant to even eat it. But once I ate that Spicy Italian Sandwich I was reminded by how it isn't even THAT bad! I actually like it again lol. Obviously it isn't the best sandwich quality, but it is decent enough and super cheap. Since this place is a pitt stop location, I was surprised by how fresh their ingredients were and the quality tasted like regular Subways. I guess I wouldn't mind to start eating Subway again! I came here yesterday at 9am (Friday, 12/21/18) and left disappointed. 1st, the employee took forever to prepare two sandwiches. I ordered 2 spicy Italian sandwiches and asked for them to be prepared with the new cheesy garlic bread. The woman making the sandwiches was by herself so I can understand that it took a while, but it took much longer than it should've. The woman at this restaurant took almost half an hour to complete my order. I really wish this was an exaggeration. 2nd, she said that if I wished to get another cheese besides the mozzarella that comes with the cheesy garlic bread option then I would have to pay extra. I'm not 100% sure how adding this option to your sandwich works price wise but when I've ordered at other subways the employees mentioned that I was able to choose a cheese that originally comes with the sandwich for no additional price. Also, thinking logically, I'm purchasing the sandwich PLUS cheesy garlic bread. This added feature to the sandwich is already the additional price I have to pay! It makes no sense to charge me extra for the cheese that's supposed to come with the original sandwich. This option costs $1.25 more and it's obvious to me that it's for the garlic spread AND the mozzarella that's part of it. 3rd, I paid double for my sandwiches. Subtotal was $22.25 but I paid $44.50. This is why I'm writing this review. Part of the blame goes to Subway the company because of the payment method I used and part of the blame goes to the employee because of how she responded to it. I was paying with the Subway app. You can use the app to scan a QR code that contains your payment information (mine has my PayPal on it). Every Subway I go to has clueless employees that are not aware that the code isn't just for collecting rewards points. I know this isn't their fault. It's Subway for not teaching their employees that customers can pay with it and not showing them how to work the register for this payment option. That's just a side complaint but the real issue that happened was that when I went to pay the register didn't recognize a successful payment when my Subway app and PayPal account did. I received a notification from my PayPal app and email for my receipt. The employee said that I still had to pay because the register didn't finalize the transaction and print a receipt. She told me that I still needed to provide payment and assigned the responsibility to me of resolving the issue by telling me to call Subway and so they could issue a refund. This is where she was completely wrong. It shouldn't be my responsibility to fix a payment issue. If I show you a PayPal receipt as well as a an email of a valid transaction then you should give me my rightfully acquired food and instead have your manager figure out what went wrong. She completely wasted my time by taking forever to make the food and now making me spend time to get my money back. If I wasn't with another person I would have just taken the food to the table and sat down to eat it right in front of her. I know the ethics of that can be argued but honestly I paid and the food was mine to eat. I know I did have an option not to pay again and just walk away but that wouldn't have been the best route to take. I really wouldn't be able to attempt to get my money back with an order number that comes on the receipt. Also if I had to spend money again to get food and since I was hungry there was no reason not to. The odd thing is that the receipt showed I received rewards points for my purchase so the system recognized my account through the QR code but for some reason couldn't pick up that I had paid. Another minor complaint I have is that while I was eating the employee ended up giving a free sandwich to another customer. Seriously? The way this happened was that the customer, who was probably 2 or three spots in line behind me, complained that the employee added jalapeños to her son's sandwich after she told her a couple times "no jalapeños". Same thing happened with other customers when the employee repeatedly asked for information they had already given her. This wasn't really an issue with my order though. Also, the frustrated customer, while complaining about the jalapeños, complained that she had been waiting in line for 45 minutes. I guess to appease the angry customer the employee said she could have that sandwich for free. I really couldn't believe it. I couldn't receive the sandwiches I had actually paid for after being polite and showing proof of purchase but a rude customer gets a free sandwich? It's just clear to me that this employee is severely incompetent and requires better training. read more

I wouldn't normally bother writing a review on a Subway, let alone one out in Kettleman City that I may not ever go to again...but I feel like I need to off-set all the negative reviews because I had such a great experience here. My family and I stopped off I-5 to get gas on our way down to SoCal, and since the Subway was attached that was our logical pit stop for lunch. The lady at the counter was super friendly, piled our sandwiches high with veggies, and even gave me a little bag with a few extra cucumbers for my son (they're currently his favorite). As always, the Subway price can't be beat as far as a consistently tasty, healthier lunch option. We were in and out, back on the road sandwiches in tow in about 5 minutes, including a quick restroom break. read more

It's dirty, you have to walk around to the neighboring express store for the bathroom, parking is near impossible and the workers are SLOW and have trouble understanding basic subway instructions. My recent catering ordering experience with this Subway in Kettleman City was great! I had to order lunch for a group of consisting upper management who would be meeting at a nearby facility. I was in So Cal and would not be at the meeting so I had to trust the store would get it right. Fedelina came through for me - she was professional, accurate, courteous and reliable. Worked with me all the way through until the order was picked up. Feedback from lunch party was that the food was fresh and beverages were cold. No complaints. Thank you! :-) I would have given 5 stars except no one answered the telephone when I initially began calling the store (and before speaking with Fedelina). Both times I went there I have hated their customer service. I may have been on a womanly spiral mood, but I never noticed at other Subways that they want to make you your sandwicth their way. Well, it happened to me. This first girl likes to decide when she is going to put the veggies you want on your sub even after she asks you what else you want on it (she has her own little systme, but ok attitude). The other one is a fugly short girl that asks what you want, and if you ask a question--you can't hear her. Since you can't hear you she will yell the answer to you, and then turn around and gossip to the other girls about you--in front of you. Thanks for ruining my lunch wench. read more
