Folks that drive the stretch of Interstate 5 between the Grapevine and Interstate 580 know there is not much out there in terms of fast food places to stop to eat. One of my go to stops is the Carls Jr in Kettleman City. It has been a solid choice for me for the past 12 years. The food is served hot and fresh. Taste pretty good. Better than most other CJs. As is the customer service. They could use an interior remodel though, at least the bathroom. Giving off 1990s vibes. But come again most CJs do. On my last visit, I had the Famous Star. No complaints. I want to point out it did not contain the iceberg lettuce leaf core which most other fast food joints do. read more

Highway robbery! The definition of being charged nearly $19 for a five piece chicken tenders "value meal". Insanity is buying 2 of these meals and waiting forever to get our number called. Sadness is finding out how horrible the meals taste. Chicken tenders are irregular in size, mushy texture and zero seasoning. Fries were flimsy and zero seasoning and one would think they could not screw up a self serve drink but think again. Mostly soda water with very little syrup flavor. Could it get any worse? Shit yes, the restroom looked third world complete with disgusting floors and prison type fixtures. Carls Jr should close this restaurant immediately. But with very few options in Kettleman City this place will live to serve more high priced crappy meals. Never again for us. I would rather have gas station food over this place. Deserving of 1 star? Absolutely, it was truly that bad. Stay away from this place. You will thank me later. read more

Ok, I know this is a fast food chain, but it's one of my two favorites. Carl's Jr and El Pollo Loco are just about the only fast food places I stop at. I love the Santa Fe Chicken sandwich, the Western Bacon Cheeseburger, and now the Teriyaki Chicken sandwich all of which I will always order fried zucchini with. We stopped here on our way to So California from Seattle. We went to In and out the line was wrapped around the building. This was quiet only 2 employees working it's across the road it's across from Dunkin' Donuts which was very dead. The general manger took our order was rude because he was working drive thru and front counter. I explained to him 3x no bum on my burger. He told the cook she was like huh? Firstly, this place needs to be renovated. Secondly, it's dirty. Finally, the food wasn't very good. Go elsewhere. It was $12 for a breakfast combo. It came with a sausage & egg biscuit, hash brows and a small orange juice. Biscuit was more dry than the Sahara Desert. I only ate the sausage and egg. Juice was only about 8oz. No water cup was offered. Staff is really nice, attentive and friendly. Parking lot is plentiful but cracked and landscape is poorly maintained. Drink machine is dirty, vents are dusty, bathroom is smelly, and floors in bathroom are not mopped. No cake in the urinal. Floor mat was nasty. Blinds have some kind of water or stain damage at the bottom. Spider webs along the windows. Cashier was logged in as "Matthew" but it was a lady. Dine in was given in a bag, not open and on a tray. Lots of potential due to its location. Poorly managed and maybe a health hazard. I stopped by here on a long drive down to SoCal as I saw they sold the "Beyond Star" which is their plant-based meat burger. The food was done pretty quickly and the burger was fine, but not that cheap relative to the size since I didn't get a combo or anything. However, I appreciate that they use Beyond meat since it's pea protein-based so it's a better option for those who cannot eat soy but want to avoid meat. read more

One star would be giving this place a rave review in our opinion. We pulled up to the drive-through speaker box and nobody answered for five minutes. We then like idiots decided to enter the building and order inside. What a fiasco! The employees just sat there talking to each other, instead of taking our order, or being on a hustle at all, we finally got our food after 20 minutes of waiting, there was nobody else in there! The fries tasted like stale, old grease. The food wasn't even that hot and the price for two adult meals and one child's meal was $45. I mean that's outrageous, price gouging for sure! Is this the world we live in when we can't even get a burger on the road for less than the price of a restaurant and get completely shitty service, it was awful don't eat here. read more

So disappointed that I came through at 6:30 am and I received a hockey puck biscuit, old crusty cheese, and barely any egg on my sandwich. I would have thought at this time it would be fresh but that was so far from the case. My son even ordered a burger, famous star with cheese and his burger looked as if it had been sitting under the heat lamps for hours already. I also had gotten tots with my meal which were soaked in grease but because I was so hungry that was all I ate and am suffering for it now. I've always loved Carl's Jr.'s BBQ sauce. I don't know what it is. But I loved it in my western bacon cheeseburger. Oh how I wished that I had one right now. Anyhow, back to the review. The family and I went here just to escape from the craziness of the other fast food joints. It was busy enough but we didn't have to fight for parking and the food came pretty fast. The staff here was nice. The parking lot is not crazy. The restrooms were clean. The food came out fast; they did forget my fries but they apologized and handled the situation in no time. I ordered the chicken BBQ sandwich and it was a good sized sandwich. There was enough BBQ sauce in it. The fries were fresh and hot. My parents burgers were also nicely put together and they liked it. Not a bad place for a quick lunch. I'd go back if I was around these parts of the state. read more

I've stopped here multiple times now and it's always the same good experience. The restaurant itself is always clean and tidy. The staff is very polite and helpful. The food comes out fast and isn't smashed together like other Carl's Jr.'s. The bathroom is decent and cleaner than most. Definitely a good place to stop. read more

When you're going to be driving for about 5+ hours, this is a great stop to make to fill up on some food, gas (before or after), and take a break. I've been here a couple times and I always found it to be pretty clean, things of working order, and with efficient service. Food seemed to be good for being a Carl's Jr. I don't usually like to have fast food, but as you have limited choices traveling up or down the I-5 this is a spot I do go to. I haven't found this location to be super busy like the In-N-Out down the road, so that's good. Everyone seemed friendly too. I used to stop here regularly on drives up and down the state, but have stopped since pledging to be healthier and for the sake of saving time. The place is usually crowded, which is good because then the food is fresher. The floors usually pretty dirty which I guess you can expect when there's a lot of foot traffic. I always get the jalapeno cheeseburger. Yummmmm... one of my favorite burgers. I always end up taking a potty break here too before hitting the road, and I've come to accept the fact that before I step foot into the bathroom I need to roll up my pants so as not to get wet stuff on the bottom of them. Wet with what? I'm not quite sure. By far one of the filthiest restrooms I've been in. I recommend going in AFTER you've had your food so it doesn't affect you meal. read more

Visited the store when dine in was closed but drive through open. Walked around the drive through saying hello everywhere but no response so I walked up to the drive thru window. Someone was cleaning the kitchen but no one at the window so I knocked, she couldn't hear me. So I knocked harder, no response and I guess it's noisy in there, so I had no choice but to bang on the window. Finally someone came around from the far side of the window said "can you not bang on the window next time?" I explained to her that I've tried knocking but no one can hear me so she started arguing with me and closed the window on me after we've placed the order. Stopped here on our way back from San Diego to San Jose. The restaurant over all was fine. As clean as expected smack dab in the middle of no where. I would imagine the general customer base are travelers not locals since it's right off the freeway and near several gas stations. Plenty of parking, friendly service, clean tables, clean bathrooms, you know ... nothing above average. The nice employee that took our order was WAY to rehearsed in his greeting. I understand he's trying to push new products on customers but if you're in a line and behind several other folks placing their orders, you really don't need to hear him yet again say "would you like to try our new Bacon Burger"? Or "Would you like to make that a meal for only $xxx more"? Poor guy, someone stop him before a customer relinquishes their road rage on him. My daughter and I each ordered the 3 piece chicken strips. These seemed to come out WAY after the folks even behind us got their order. The "strips" were very small, super hot and greeeeeeasy! I literally ate 2 and tossed the 3rd. I'm sure they were cooked to the Carl's Jr. standard but ick. I was trying to make a healthier choice than the double bacon burger but after squeezing all that gross grease out when I bit into it, I would probably have been better off with the burger! I've never been down this stretch of I-5, having gone across to Bakersfield to Barstow. Having seen other choices along the way, there weren't many choices. At this exit, there were many choices, and at the last moment, I saw Carl's Jr on the north side of the road. It was a typical location: fairly clean, fairly efficient, and fairly friendly. If I could wish one thing it's that they would offer the smaller items from Hardee's--and the Mushroom Swiss Burger. I got my food very quickly, and without the mayonnaise that usually bothers me a little. They were polite both at the register and when they delivered my food. Since I was trying to make time, I didn't finish much of it, which is mostly why I wish that they had smaller choices. Still, I love the taste. read more

I've never waited as long as I did here anywhere else. I was sitting in the drive-through for over 10 minutes and there was only one car in front of me. Usually when things start to back up, they direct the front car to park and bring it out to you when it's ready. But instead, they had the guy in front of me sit and wait there for well over 10 minutes. All I ordered was a simple Burger and fries. Not a bad place for a quick lunch while cruising I-5 in the Central Valley. The restaurant was clean, and kept at a nice temperature (compared to the furnace that was the outside world). I opted for a special order (adding pineapple to a BBQ Chicken Sandwich), and hey look.. it's only 30 cents more! Sweet. However, the people behind us ordered a Teriyaki burger, and apparently the sticker-meisters who tag the wrappers confused our orders, since i ended up with a pineapple-on-burger, and some other lady got my pineapple-on-chicken. so we swapped rather than making the kitchen remake our food. Oddly enough, at one point during our meal, it seemed that all the road-tripping families had disappeared, leaving us in a dining room of traveling seniors. Still, better than trying to eat while driving. BBQ Chicken Sandwich + Grilled Pineapple = good. i'll see if my local Carl's Jr. can put it together for me sometime. +1 star for the special order easily made, but -1 star for the mix-up. read more
