You could actually taste the inside and not just the breading. Service was GREAT. Both the young ladies behind the counter were fast serving up the food and very friendly. Not the typical "big city" owner who is above talking to his customers...even commented on my husbands wacky shoes. Will definitely go back there when in the area again. The place is clean, bright and cozy without being cramped. The service is friendly and helpful. The menu is not too big nor too small....just right. We ordered the spinach pie - flakey crust, delicious spinach & feta filling with herbs. Most definitely homemade fresh, not a frozen food service product. Gyro dinner with spinach rice and Greek potatoes - gyro meat was tender and not overly spiced/flavored like, once again, a nasty food service product. Potatoes were cooked perfectly. Soft and seasoned spot-on, obviously made fresh and not left dying under a heat lamp. The spinach rice was tasty but a bit salty. I can assume that since everything is fresh made this might just be a one-off. I am more than willing to try this dish again to test out this hypothesis. I definitely recommend. Please support this venue to assure that this option for an alternative to bar food in downtown Sycamore lasts for a long time to come

The chicken was super tasty and I loved the block of feta. Although, for 15.00, I could get double the salad and chicken and get pita bread at another local Greek restaurant. I would suggest adding more to the salad for the price of 16.50. I will try something different next time but I think my husband will stick with the Gyro dinner and we will just ask for more sauce and pita bread.

Takeaway: Great bread, disappointing flavor, and an impersonal ordering experience…read more The Original Steak & Hoagies had been on my radar thanks to several positive reviews and the promise of authentic Philadelphia bread delivered fresh. Naturally, I had to give it a try. The location is easy to miss -- tucked into a small strip mall by the train tracks -- and the interior was empty except for one employee and a customer picking up an order. When I walked in, the employee didn't acknowledge me. After standing there for a moment, I noticed a self‑order screen near the counter, identical to their online ordering interface. Once I placed my order, the employee immediately began preparing my food. The only interaction I received was when he called my name to pick it up. I ordered the small Original Cheesesteak meal. The bread was the highlight: soft, fresh, and exactly what you'd expect from real Philly bread. Unfortunately, the rest of the sandwich didn't live up to the hype. The meat had very little flavor, and the vegetables and minimal cheese overwhelmed what little taste there was. The "small" size is roughly an 8-inch sub. I also tried the Wisconsin cheese curds. They were made with white cheddar and tasted almost identical to what you'd get at Culver's -- nothing special. The combo totaled $22.66, which felt steep for a meal that left a lot to be desired. If you're going strictly for the bread, it's worth a stop. Otherwise, the experience and flavor fall short of expectations.

To make matters worse, the sides are incredibly small. When our sides arrived, they were served in tiny Styrofoam cups and contained no more than two tablespoons of food. It is definitely not worth the price. My husband, son, and my mother ordered the ribs, they were good but a bit, tough and dry. I ordered the beef brisket, a huge disappointment, it consisted of just four slices of thinly cut meat. I understand that the cost of food has gone up and the aftermath of Covid has really changed restaurant prices and quantity. But come on don't insult me by giving the bare minimum. For a small town BBQ joint you are charging Chicago prices with absolutely no extras.

The South Moon is a casual room packed with vintage and antique toys of all things. So many joints…read moredecorate their rooms with antique junk-it's a simple theme that almost always works. TOYS, as a theme catches your eye and your fancy, and provides a sense of comfort, really. If you're of a certain age, you HAD some of these pieces when you were a kid. I certainly did. But what links Toys, Bourbon and BBQ, I have no idea. Perhaps if you hit some fine pre-prandial herb it might make sense. I can remember that state of mind from my hippie days, and I think I may be on to something. The Q here is superb, at prices that will make you clean your glasses to make sure you saw it correctly. The perfectly-seasoned rib rack is HUGE (see photo below), with the right amount (and right flavor) of smoke. The pulled pork and brisket is the same quality. The sauces taste home-made and if you like it HOT, the ghost-pepper variety will not disappoint. Someone in this kitchen knows what they are doing. There are a few miscues (not enough to put me off my feed, but I report it all nonetheless): The Slaw is a little underseasoned. Hit it with some salt and it's great. The vaunted "spicy potato salad" isn't exactly a "must-have", I'd stick with the regular "mustard-style" tater-salad. There's a pulled Chicken which I haven't tried yet, but there isn't a bone-in BBQ chix option. I'll bet they'd knock it out of the park if there was one. And then there's the bar. A heroic variety of Bourbons, and the guy who curates the collection (I think his name is Phil) really knows his stuff inside and out, even if he looks more like a farmhand than a Bourbon Sommelier. They also have a smashing selection of Irish Whiskies. Note Bene: Make sure you have a designated driver. Trust me. In and amongst the toys, all this great booze is offered for sale. They also have a variety of THC-infused beverages on the menu. With this excellent Q, the mind boggles. Plus...toys. As far as Circuses, the service is homey and efficient, with sports on the TV, and picnic tables as a seating choice. A fine feed indeed, and it doesn't do that bad of damage to your pocketbook. We've always wanted to find a place that was in the same league as the Q joints found in the South, and I think we hit on a winner here. Worth the drive, that's for sure. Epilogue: Here's the wicked pissah: For a while, South Moon was open not more than a mile from Stately Breakwind Manor, here in the far southwest Chicago Burbs; in a building that until recently never had a winner in it. We didn't go 'cos we didn't like the building (idiots,we). If you take a look through Yelp for this region most every Q stop is compared to South Moon-believe them.
