My wife had died three months earlier and after visiting her grave at the cemetery in Hamburg I was looking for a coffee shop to relax around noon. The only place open was The Yellow Deli at 327 Buffalo Street and the second I walked in I knew I was in the right place. Being a deeply spiritual person I was intrigued by this line on the cover of their menu, "We serve the fruit of the Spirit. Why not ask?" So I did and I was beyond overwhelmed by the people who operate this amazing restaurant at cafe and by their Christian beliefs. I love their story and what they stand for. The Fresh Green Mate was to die for and it was so good I purchased a brick and use it nearly day. The Bristol Fillet with the wild Alaskan Sslmon was the best as were their soups, which I have every time I visit. It's a great restaurant, kitchen staff is superb and the people are top quality. I have and will continue to return.

Their vegetable soup is like what your mom used to make and their steamed sandwiches are unusual sounding, but the Reuben I had was very good! I loved the interior of the restaurant and especially liked watching the beautiful dumb waiter bringing food from the main floor to upstairs. Great Hamburg find

I'd never before seen sourdough croissants or cheese danishes; there's an abundance of gorgeous loaves/boules for sale. (Cheese fondue supplies! Yes!!). A baker's rack to the right sells day-old bread at discounted prices (make your own croutons!) I opted for an almond (sourdough) croissant and a small coffee; I was asked if I wanted a mug or a to go cup? I was given a beautiful glazed mug - very charming! Two things worth mentioning: There's a small seating area downstairs, and five large tables upstairs. The stairs? A polite way of describing them is, "grandfathered-in". The rise/run makes it difficult to navigate if you're in thick boots, carrying a child, or have stiff knees. The pastry had a beautiful crunch. I enjoyed the almond flavor. And then I found: cherry preserves? I'm aware that "croissant et confiture" (eaten with jam) is a standard French breakfast, but it did change the mouth feel of the treat. I'd recommend this place to anyone wanting to try something earthier and beautifully executed.

We were the only ones in the room so it was great to be as loud as we wanted without disturbing anyone. They have a large parking lot but it can be easy to miss since it's by one of the roundabout's. I had the Beef on Weck wrap. Asked our waitress about it since it's been a while since I was there. She said it was one of the newer items and is very popular. The beef is wrapped in a flour tortilla with provolone, creamy horseradish, salt & caraway seeds & finished in a panini press. It comes with chips and a pickle but I upgraded to fries. My choices were straight cut, waffle or sweet potato so I opted for waffle fries. I would definitely order it again. Everyone enjoyed their food, too busy talking to take pics but some of their options were the beer cheddar soup, corned beef quesadilla, burger, chicken sandwich, roast beef on white bread with mashed potatoes & gravy. Their rye bread is baked in-house and you can purchase it just like one of my friends did.

Normally, I don't mind waiting, but when it goes that far over the estimate, I felt it was worth mentioning. Once the younger host stepped away, I spoke to the man who looked like the owner or manager. I explained the situation, and he immediately made it right. He offered us drinks to make up for the wait -- I ordered my favorite, an Old Fashioned, and my wife got one as well. Not only were the drinks on the house, but we were also seated right away. The service after that was fantastic. Our food came out quickly, and everything was delicious. The breading on the chicken was excellent, and I especially loved the South Towns Chicken -- a Nashville-style dish with a nice kick and spicy coleslaw. Highly recommended! Despite the rocky start, the staff more than made up for it. The manager or owner handled everything with professionalism and kindness, and that level of service really stood out. I highly recommend 1812 Tavern -- it's a wonderful place with great food and even better people. I'm glad to see it doing so well and hope it continues to be a success for many years to come
