I don't order Jim's often, but when I do, it's because I'm feeling some type of way... a feeling that only a sub and some crispy fries could cure. This location is nearest to my apartment so I ordered from here for delivery recently. My order was simple: a six inch ham sub (roll double toasted, because that's the right way to do it) and a regular-sized order of fries. After ordering it took about 20-25 minutes for my food to get delivered to me which wasn't bad at all. My food came exactly as ordered, even the double-toasted roll, and they didn't go light on the toppings, which I appreciated. The fries were perfectly crisp too, which I wasn't expecting since it's usually pretty common to get soggy fries when you order takeout. Their menu is pretty extensive -- tacos, steak hoagies, chicken fingers. Whatever you're craving, they've got it, and it'll hit the spot. It's not too steeply priced either! Haven't been to Jim's in a few years because I moved away . I looked at some recent reviews and wondered should I take a chance and revisit one of my favorite past eating establishments. I should have trusted the reviews . Wow has the food gone downhill ... way downhill . I threw it right in the garbage . Almost $30 for a large steak taco ( 4 tiny cubes of steak ), a beef and cheese burrito that was so watered down lacking any beef whatsoever , and a 8" steak hoagie that lacked flavor completely ... what the heck k happened to their steak sauce ??? I know they've changed the recipe through the years but what a complete disappointment. They literally lost me as a customer . Hello. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Tonight, I walked in (mask on), and waited a minute for the guy in front of me to finish paying for his order. There was a tall darker skinned male working at the counter. He had twists for a hairstyle. Well, he asked if he could help me, my response was yes, and I proceeded to make my order. (12inch ham sub, on white) and he cut me off to ask me my name. So I said, Marcus and his response was whats your order. So again, I proceeded with 12 inch ham....he cut me off again. Then he said, are you picking up or you placing an order. I chuckled. I answered that I was ordering now, and I had to start all over again, as Now its becoming frustrating. In the 2 orders, I asked that the breads be triple toasted. He explained, that they may turn out burned, and I said (softly), yes I know, but anytime for the past 3 weeks, I've asked for double toasted and the bread still be soft and I don't find out until after I'm already home. Which is why this time, I came in to be sure. He made some sort of face and went to place the breads in the toaster. So, at this point I'm thinking, maybe the toaster is finally fixed, because for at least 3 weeks it wasn't (per the employees) when I called to complain. Therefore, I asked him (kindly), if he could show me the breads after the 2nd toasting. His response, in an undertone, and undermining way, was "I got it/I got you" as if he was tired and didn't want to do it. So, before he put the toast in the 3rd time, I simply asked if he could turn the bread over, because I didn't want the outside of the bread to be soft. Hence, the reason I came in in the first place. Oh boy, well he began stating how it could be burned, and I said, its on me if it does, and as a paying customer, I know how I want my bread. A young lady he was working alongside of, tried to interject to explain about the toaster, but I already knew about the toaster. She was kind. And it was a clear understanding. His body language was again, as if he didn't want to service me, and AS HE WAS SHOWING ME THE BREAD, said, "is this toasted to your liking sir"? It was stated in a very cynical way. And to help him, I said "yes, but young man, watch your tone, because you never know who you're serving." I repeated as he mumbled. You see, I had an orange hoodie on, a blue cowboys had, blue jeans and a black jacket. Perhaps, he thought I was a nobody. But I still was a paying customer, regardless. As the same young lady, gave him a simple instruction, he went to make the sandwich, and at this point I almost cancelled. But I said No, he has to understand the importance of customer service. So I watched him make my sandwich closely. What he didn't know about me, was that I'm a Bishop in the church, a pastor of my own congregation, a published author, and a radio show host on two separate networks. WJJL 1440 AM and Totally Gospel Network. And I have a nice following on social media. In the end, I hope this young man learns that his actions affect the bottom line. I don't want to see him terminated. I want to see the change in him the next time I come in. I want him to grow and become the most improved employee or employee of the month. I want him to grow and become a team leader who understands customer service and customer satisfaction. Thank you. And by the way, I hate I had to give you 2 stars, but having a bad toaster for over 3 weeks, eating a soft sub at least 3x, and dealing with tonight's attitude, at this moment, I don't see 3, 4, or 5. If it's 3am, and your hungry, you can't go wrong with Jim's! There is a wide variety of options, the food isn't bad at all, and when you leave a tip everyone says "Thank you" (Which gave me more of a happy feeling than the Chick-fil-A "My Pleasure"). The food comes out fast, the people watching is second to none, and seriously... where else are you going to go get a chicken and waffle sandwich that late at night/early in the morning? So, I've been out of the area for about 12 years and I still comeback to visit. Which is what I did this last weekend. And being older it wasn't a 3 or 4 o'clock night for me. I visited Jim's at 1:30. What happened to my Jim's steak out ? This place was filthy , garbage overflowing, condiments trashed. Solo patrons that are neither eating or waiting on orders , but just seating there watching the customers. The employees couldn't be less interested in working, no standards being set or enforced. 5 employees working at 1:30 in the morning, it's not closing time and not 1 can empty the garbage or clean the eating area. My chicken finger sub was disgusting, hot sauce was everywhere, the entire thing was falling apart. I can't believe the lack of standards and unprofessionalism exhibited. If you are from Buffalo, I can see why you would give Jim's a low rating. You have to appreciate the free entertainment you see when the liquid courage starts to kick in. This location is conveniently located on Elmwood across from ETS. My top Jim's dish to order is the steak deluxe fries. My God!! But unfortunately every location seems to make them slightly different. Fortunately for this location, they actually have the order right!! Jim's is well known as a destination for late-night, post-bar greasy goodness. They definitely hit the nail on the head for that critical function! But Jim's also has some healthier options on their extensive menu, including salads, veggie subs, and even tacos. Their Chicken Finger Sub, or their Jim's Hot Bleu (Spicy with Blue Cheese) are well known staples among Buffalonians. If you want a steak sub, try the Diavlo with fried hot peppers. Is it too expensive for what it is (especially for Buffalo)? Definitely. But is it delicious, filling, and something that is uniquely Buffalo, heavy food with lots of flavor. Of all the places in Buffalo to go, this is by far the one I have frequented the most. I don't know how the staff deal with all the drunks, and scream "Thank You" with every tip, but I appreciate it! I visited Jim's as a college student, I visited Jim's on the night of my Bachelor party (Shhh!!!!), and I still visit Jim's when I have to go in to work an overnight shift and I want to take a sandwich. They wear T-shirt's that say "I see drunk people". They all yell thank you when you drop a decent tip and the cashier shout's "SAY THANK YOU!" It's not the Ritz. It's still amazingly good! They do have to herd a decent amount of intoxicated folks, but that's either you or it's not your problem. I love that when I wake up at 3 am and stop by Jim's on the way to work I can say "Hey I'm on my way to work..." and they reply with "He's going to work! Make his sandwich so he can get going!" and they mean it. Their clientelle may be a bit foggy, but Jim's staff is always on their game. read more

Restaurants should not accept online orders until they figure out how it works. I ordered online at 10pm Friday night. An hour later, I called (three times, before someone answered) only to be told that they "forgot" to enter my order in the system, whatever that means. But, they tell me, my sandwich is on its way. Thirty minutes later, I call again. Sorry, they say...delivery guy just left. Fifteen minutes later, I call again and they actually picked up the phone then immediately hung it up without saying anything. After that, they refused to answer the phone at all. Perfectly crisp but fluffy fries notwithstanding, Jim's Steak-Out is actually mediocre at best if you think about logically. The steak in the subs tends to be on the dry and crumbly side, but chicken fingers, doused in hot sauce yet crunchy-coated, are sublime. Sub construction is somewhat sloppy: not even the pleasantly chewy roll can fully contain its fillings. Whatever choice of oil & vinegar, mayo or bleu cheese dressing will be plenty to mix with stringy shredded lettuce and industrial tomato. Despite all this, Jim's is there because there are times where only that sort of junk will do. It's the sort of place that maxes out at 3 Yelp stars, and that is what Jim's shall receive. read more

Maybe it was the bad choice I made but not at all impressed. Neither were the other 3 friends. We stumbled in late night and quite sober in search of wings and quick finger foods. The so-called boneless wings were like chicken McNuggets or something doused with wing sauce. The wing sauce was too salty and too vinegary. I'll admit we finished an order of 20 amongst the 4 but mostly due to the size of the chicken chunks (not wings). The mozzarella sticks were OK. Service was not friendly (no demerits for this from me--you don't have to ooze insincere niceness, just do your job because I'm not here to make friends either) and waited too long to order though the workers seemed to be busy cooking.
