Champs Chicken - Inside the Spicy Chicken Sandwich

Stopped in for breakfast to-go after seeing a couple of reviews…read more.. Champs Chicken is a hot food counter located inside of the CPC - Culpeper Petroleum Cooperative - a combo gas station and convenience store. I was planning on ordering a custom breakfast sandwich - but when I asked, they stated they were all out of "breakfast" food supplies. I wanted to order a Bacon, Egg, &Cheese biscuit - with extra Bacon & Cheese; and a Sausage, Egg, & Cheese with extra Sausage & Cheese. But could not due to them running out of breakfast food supplies. I ended up purchasing one each of their standard pre-made Bacon, Egg, & Cheese and Sausage, Egg, & Cheese from the warmer. They were good, but still disappointed I could not get custom made orders. #ChampsChicken

Yeah, we stop for coffee and see the fried chicken, fish, shrimp stand towards the back and we ask the cashier if it's any good. She highly recommends and says they bread and fry it onsite everyday. OK...we are kinda hungry so we give it a shot. Fried tenders and shrimp to munch on as a snack in the car. We pay and head back on the road. As we dig in we discover tasty, fresh chicken tenders and shrimp with a nice peppery seasoned crunchy exterior with little grease. Man, these are tasty. The whole family loves it. Can't wait to stop by again on our next trip to Cville. We've all been talking about it. Don't let the outward appearance fool you...they make some delicious fried morsels here. Make the stop! Final note: I will say you should ensure you stop by around peak times. We came by around 2:00pm and the tenders lost its crunch vs when we got a fresh batch.

When I got into town, for my first ever visit, I looked for a place to get lunch. There were several familiar chain options, but Steak N' Cheese Please caught my eye, seeing as how I am originally from the South Jersey area and could eat (good) cheesesteaks every day. I checked the bathroom, and it was immaculate. A good sign. I checked the menu. They offer a lunch special. $9.99 for a cheesesteak sub, fries and a soft drink? I thought, "How does McDonald's stay in business with competition like that?" So, I ordered the special, and was told by the staff that it was a family-owned restaurant, another good sign. The first thing I noticed was the roll. You cannot have a good cheesesteak without steak and cheese - everyone knows that. But what most people outside of the Philadelphia area seem to forget is that it is a sandwich, and as such, the quality and type of bread or roll plays a major role (pun intended) in the dining experience. The roll was fresh, and flavorful. I was told that it came from a bakery multiple times a week to ensure quality and freshness. The meat, cheese and peppers were generous, and expertly prepared. It was delicious. However, just as good as the sandwich were the fries. They were perfectly cut, seasoned, and fried. Not greasy, not dry. Perfect. I could make a meal out of the fries alone! And of course, no matter the meal, if the hosts are not amiable, and helpful, the experience will be disappointing. The owner, staff and even my fellow diners were to a soul extremely friendly. It was like having a family meal, in a town I never visited before. I might just have to take another hour and a half drive. I think that I hear a Pizza Steak calling my name.

Their breakfast is incredibly generous and made with ingredients that were fresh, clean, and meticulous in detail. The design of their menu is just so promising with unique twists that are not unheard of, but just an elevated touch when it comes to American diner food as a whole. Things like truffle infused hollandaise, fried green tomato BLT, pairing balsamic with goat cheese, a blackened pork, even mushrooms on the breakfast menu all hint that people developing their menu are confident in their skills in offering something more when it comes to breakfast plates and sandwiches. Their homemade aiolis (highly recommend their pesto aioli) and hot sauce tie any dish together-- breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Things made to this quality are not to be unremarked. Came in with friends so we can try everything on their menu, and we were pleasantly surprised on all fronts. Presentation, ingredients, preparation all elements that made our meals great and were evident across all dishes ranging from protein to carb. Details like toasted bread with already spread with butter, perfectly poached eggs, and brioche as the bun of choice were things we peeped. We would have left satisfied if these details weren't accounted for, but we were so impressed this became a revisit during our short vacation. Their space is greatly spacious, with an open drinks station so its just not pretentious. There is even a section in the front to pick up goods made by local artisans. This is a great place to dine in, no notes.
