Not the sexiest 3000th review you may see on Yelp, but this is where Moo Thru has landed as I pick off pending reviews from a very long list. On a road trip into DC going the back route on James Madison Highway. I ran across Moo Thru which I was familiar with from Charlottesville. All I needed was coffee to keep me awake, but decided to treat my daughter to a cup of Cookies & Cream as she cranked out an essay on the road to the airport for Spring Break. Friendly counter service by a young lady. All ordering is outdoors with outdoor undercover seating too! It's a big road stop vibe with even a drive- thru to stay put in your car. The wait was not long and the coffee was pretty good, not great. However, my daughter really liked the ice cream and gave me a small bite. I concurred it was yummy! They offer a restroom off to the side. It was clean, but had issues with shutting off the water and reported. I would have no issue returning and get an ice cream next trip.
We always stop by Moo Thru on our way down from NoVA to Charlottesville. It's right next to a major road so it gets a lot of traffic. Luckily the staff are nice and can get through orders decently quick even when there's a lot of customers. Moo Thru has the best ice cream I've ever had. It is rich, creamy, and comes in large portions. There are also a large variety of flavors. They make the ice cream and waffle cones in house so you are supporting a local business too.
The aroma of waffle cones as you drive by will turn your heart into the parking lot... watch out for the momma and baby cow right by the entrance! Any flavor of ice cream and soft serve perfection. Come hungry, you wont need dinner with cherries on top!
My husband and I loved moo thru! The grilled cheese with tomato was surprisingly good, we would both order it again. Of course their ice cream is also delicious! Service was so so, we had to remind the staff that we ordered food before we received it.
Moo thru is a VA staple! If you're in the Culpeper area, it's a must visit. I've been going here for the last decade or so since my sis moved to VA and I went to school there. I got the cookie butter and my sister got the smores! The cookie butter was OK. Kinda icy and didn't have those warming spices you would expect from a cookie butter flavor. The s'mores was really good, marshmallow ice cream with large chocolate chunks. Waffle cone was great! Expect a wait, it's always busy

THE BLACK AND WHITE: I would always drive by here on the way to Charlottesville and back to DC. The line says it all because the ice cream here is delicious! Tons of flavors to choose from. The wife and I always get the mint chip and it is delicious! Instead of thick chips, they are thin chips which adds that nice mouth texture instead of the traditional ice cream mint chocolate chips. Beyond that, the pistachio is also a good choice. It's not colored unnatural green but it does pack a pistachio flavor that will have you coming back for seconds. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Our last purchase was a medium cup with two flavors and it was around $7. Great place to stop to grab a sweet treat before heading to your final destination.
New favorite ice cream in the DMV. Growing up in the Midwest, I'm pretty spooked by ice cream places and have struggled to find one in NoVA. We've passed this place a few times on the way to see friends and decided to drive thru. Ice cream at 11am was worth it for how good this place is. We tried the blackberry and cake batter and plan to go back. The ice cream is smooth and thick, you can tell made with high quality ingredients. It's almost chewy how thick the consistency is. Can't wait to go back, possibly on the drive back home.
After several years, finally writing my review for Moo Thru! From cville to DC and back, Moo Thru is a MUST STOP for ice cream. Their ice cream is creamy, flavorful and absolutely addicting. They have several flavors all the time and rotating seasonal ones. My go to is Mint Chip, but you can't go wrong with cookie dough or pistachio. The line is always long when I go, but it moves quickly. Worth the wait and an opportunity to stretch your legs! There's also plenty of seating around the barn. Highly recommend :)

I especially enjoy the cookie dough, blackberry, and raspberry sorbet, though all the flavors are delicious. The single scoop is pretty sizable. Only outdoor seating and drive through. Bathrooms available. They now sell coffee, which is also tasty!
This place is definitely worth going to if you are in the fence! As a true ice cream girlie, I'm always looking for places to try that have good quality and flavor. A friend recommended the Moo Thru, it was a little out of the way but it looked promising. The drive was beautiful and we ended up here in no time, as it's on the side of the main road. I came here twice, the kids and adults both loved it. The mint and chip and cookie dough were my personal favorites. Peach was my least favorite. We tried a milkshake in coffee flavor it was great too! The price point is good for the ingredients and portions. There is often a line but it moves quickly and the team is friendly. There is seating off to the side and a drive through if you don't want to get out of the car. Can't wait to come back next time I am in the area!
So fresh I swear the cows in the back are turning the ice cream maker with the swish of their tails ! My boyfriend gets excited just knowing he gets to stop for an ice cream & my son keeps hoping he can meet one of the " farmers daughters" ! lol We look forward to sitting at the picnic tables and talking with other travelers. There is usually a long line but it's just super fun, anticipating which flavors you might want to try. Warning though, no indoor seating so you will get cold unless you're there in August, September maybe.

They have a pretty larger variety of scooped ice cream to select from with a lot of the star flavors! They also have a season rotation flavors as well. If you're looking for food -- well they have it here as well in addition to coffee! I ordered the Cotten candy and butter pecan small cone. The flavors are on point and really have a really creamy consistency. For ice cream this is one of the top quality ice cream shops I've been too!! I wish I lived closer to be able to come by all the time. I thought for the pricing it was not bad at all. A small scooped cone is around $3 something and they don't skim out on the scoop either. Will definitely stop again next time I'm nearby!

One of my coworkers always raves about Moo Thru, so when I got a chance to visit with a group of veterans on a motorcycle ride, I decided to join in. Although it was crowded when we arrived, they had plenty of parking in the back of their lot. We grabbed a table under a tree to provide some shade and went to order. Despite the long line, it moved very quickly. When we got up to the front, the cashier asked if we were veterans, seeing everyone wearing their combat service affiliations for the rider's group. For ease of ordering, we put everything on one tab, and were absolutely amazed by the incredibly generous military discount! (The group was truly touched, so thank you very much to Moo Thru for honoring their service.) The ice cream was delivered to us from the back window. It was delicious!! The ice cream was so creamy, and I could eat a whole gallon of the cookies & cream. While it's a bit of a hike for me to get to Moo Thru, it's definitely worth the distance, and I look forward to my next visit! read more
It's hard to miss this spot driving through central Virginia. The roadside environment makes it convenient, but you'll certainly never forget you're by a highway. There is a drive-through but also some picnic tables and a parking area to eat. In addition to ice cream, they offer beverages and basic American food. Their ice cream yielded rich flavor, albeit an alcoholic aftertaste with the mint. The chips were of high quality. The spoon was a bit dicey for eating ice cream like this. While it is a dairy-focused institution, they do offer sorbet. read more
This is a great place for coffee, ice cream and snacks! The banana ice cream has been my favorite so far. You will get more (2 scoops) with the waffle cone versus the cake cone. Everything tastes so fresh! I just discovered that they have more locations! They are in Burke and Herndon, Virginia! The service is fast and friendly. The ambiance is casual. I hope they add more flavors or seasonal flavors. It is a very family friendly place. I highly recommend them! read more

The only issue I noticed was that the pick up area was very disorganized. People were trying to take orders that did not belong to them because of the confusion. Other than that it was good. Tastes great and relatively quick. read more

Nice ice cream shop. Very quaint. Good ice cream, very creamy. I ordered two scoops of mint chocolate chip on a waffle cone, and Jan ordered one dip of chocolate, chunky capacinnio in a cup. We also ordered four cinnamon cake donuts. We had the Donuts for breakfast the next day, and they were excellent. Summary: Experience - 4/5. Long ordering line and each of the three items ordered were delivered separately over several minutes. Quality - 5/5 Cost - $$$$ $26 dollars for 3 scoops of ice cream and four cake donuts. Stopped at Moo Thru on our drive down through Virginia. My husband ordered the cinnamon ice cream, and he really enjoyed it! It was creamy and flavorful. We also ordered a grilled cheese which he also enjoyed. Service was very patient as we tried to decide on flavors. Even in the cold weather, they were very kind. Place was clean and nice. Moo Thru is one of the things I look forward to when making the drive between Northern Virginia and Charlottesville. Despite being lactose intolerant, I always come here when I can to enjoy their delicious ice cream. I particularly enjoy trying the different seasonal flavors, and they have a wide variety of flavors to suit anybody. I most recently had the candy cane Oreo during the winter months, which was absolutely delicious. Service overall is pretty fast, though they definitely can get busy in the hotter months. There is plenty of parking and outdoor seating if you'd like to sit and enjoy your ice cream! read more
Nostalgic place for my wife as this local ice cream store is on the way to Charlottesville from NoVA. Don't sleep on their milkshakes or sundaes and definitely not their chocolate ice cream. Quite pricey though and it keeps going up every time I visit. read more

I've been a moo thru customer for 13 years. I've been to the Remington store 100's of times. tonight I ordered one scoop on a cake cone and a pup cup. the pup cup wasn't even half full and the scoop on the cone was not much bigger than the ice cream scoop itself. I asked if this was all I get now, the boy told me we have smaller spoons now and laughed. I doubt I'll be back, jack my price up but don't skimp on my ice cream. what a dumb idea! read more

I've heard a lot about Moo Thru and so there was plenty of hype to live up to. We finally got to check it out early afternoon on the weekend. It was a hot day and while there was a line (we parked and stood in line) it wasn't a very long wait. I went with a small sweet cream ice cream and topped it with hot fudge. For some reason it seemed more expensive than I had thought and I think they may have charged it as a sundae and not just a small cup with topping. There was a good amount of seating and we hung around. The ice cream was good. Quite smooth. I wasn't totally sure if I got chocolate sauce or hot fudge since it seemed a bit runny. Overall it's a neat place and I'm up for trying more of their unique flavors. read more
I passed this place and wanted to try it out, having a real sweet tooth for ice cream. The place seems very cute with outdoor seating and an order window for walk-ups as well as a drive thru of course! There are some variety of flavors and other food items to choose from. The people who took my order and served me were very nice! But unfortunately the ice cream just didn't hit. I didn't really like the cookie butter flavor that much (3/5 on flavor, less on texture) and the mint chip had an odd texture to it. It wasn't bad but I don't think it was my kind of ice cream. read more
Came here after a hot day at the pool with my stepdaughter. Recently moved back to the area and didn't feel like driving to warrenton so decided to finally give this place a try. And it dis not disappoint. They had plenty of flavors even seasonal ones. They do everything from cones to cups, sundaes, milkshake/malts, floats, even banana splits. It seems they also serve some limited food during lunch hours as well. Would definitely be five stars if they staff were just a little more friendly. They seemed very reserved, no smiles etc. read more

I've driven past here for over 10 years and finally tried it to see what the hype is about. Service was fine but waited for a while in the line to order. There were only 2 bathrooms. Outdoor tables to sit at under a covered awning. It is solidly average ice cream for a premium price. Finally tried it and satisfied my curiosity, but I won't be returning. There are many other ice creams which are cheaper and tastier, and I don't want to waste time waiting in long lines here for expensive average ice cream. read more
I always make sure to stop by moo thru when I'm passing by! It's a must for ice cream lovers. They have a wide variety of flavors to choose from and are very quick if you go through their drive thru line. Their "walk-in" can be slow at times. I ordered a pup-cup as well the last time I went and my dog loved it! He quickly gulped it down and didn't have an upset stomach from it. I would highly recommend for dog owners! My personal favorite flavor is their coffee flavor. It's very yummy! read more

On your way to Charlottesville? We've driven by Moo Thru several times now and it is always packed. Well, this time we stop and guess what? It's a drive thru for ice cream. It says it is made with fresh milk from dairy farmers and I must say that is accurate as it's some pretty good ice cream. Cookies & Cream, Coffee, and Holstein are the flavors we get...good stuff. The lines are justified... stop by if you are in the area. read more

Moo Thru is kind of out of the middle of nowhere Virginia. But whenever we make a trip down to middle/southern VA, we try to stop at Moo Thru. They make they ice cream fresh from the milk of cows nearby. As a result their ice cream is super thick and creamy. They have a pretty wide selection of flavors. I have tried their mint choco chip and dark chocolate. I thought the mint choco chip was good (though not amazing that I would go out of my way for it). I would avoid their dark chocolate flavor though. It left my mouth dry for some reason and just didn't taste good. In terms of parking and seating, there are a decent number of parking spaces around the standalone shop. There are also a handful of picnic benches too. No inside seating. Most people just stand around to eat their ice cream. read more

Are any of their flavors gluten free?
Many of their flavors are gluten free, they're just not going to promise no cross-contamination. My girlfriend has celiac and has been fine with many of their flavors.
Do they serve food or just ice cream?
They do serve food. For whatever reason, they don't seem to list it on the website, but they do have food...a couple sandwiches, maybe chili...it's a bit random, but they do have real food, too.
