Pup Cup
Allie G.

We visited Main Street Flavors after a day spent hiking in Shenandoah National Park, and the ice cream hit the spot! I liked the old-school vibe of the shop and large flavor selection. I chose the Banana Pudding Ice Cream in a sugar cone, and it exceeded my expectations! It had bits of something mixed in and really tasted like banana pudding. I also got a pup-cup for my dog, which was a little scoop of Vanilla ice cream topped with a dog treat. Safe to say, he was thrilled! Service was fast and friendly, and they had a few outdoor tables near the entrance.

Decent local ice creams next to Hersey brand industrial chill in adjoining coolers. The best in house was the black raspberry with a rich flavor and pleasant melt. Butter pecan was also enjoyable, while the mass produced peanut butter chocolate chunk was colder and harder than the rest and the dark chocolate overwhelmed the peanut taste and required chewing because it didn't melt along with its running mate. The shop was bare bones as noted in another review. Without tables or stools inside and a few umbrella metallic tables outside. This place specializes in dipping dots, small flash frozen round ice cream pieces that can be mixed into the softer standard creams. Seemed like a potential tooth breaker, so we skipped them. Management was friendly and earnest. Clearly appreciated our business. Prices may be post pandemic higher than expected, as the largest cup held two small scoops at best and went out the door at about $6. In yesteryear where I come from that was a single scoop scored at no more than $4. Deflated volume. Inflated price.

Try The Blue Stuff. The owner has perfected the perfect scoop of icecream

At least 40 flavors of icecream, including dipping dots, ice cream bars, and fresh made smoothies. Funkily flavors I have never heard of but we had to go back for seconds

The host was super friendly and told us all the specials when she seated us! The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice overall. The restaurant is dimly lit with soft background music, making it a good option for a casual date night. The decor is definitely dated and could use some refreshing, although I suppose it's somewhat fitting for the historic inn. Personally, I think a reno would go a long way. We were seated next to a TV playing Family Feud, which we actually enjoyed, but I could see it being distracting if you're looking for a more intimate evening. Thankfully, the TV was muted though! Now let's get down to the food! We started with the duck empanadas and crab dip. The empanadas were delicious and easily one of the highlights of the meal. Unfortunately, the crab dip was the complete opposite. It tasted rancid to us, which was pretty disappointing and made us question the restaurant. The manager took care of it and checked other crab in the back for expiration. For our entrées, we ordered the fish and chips and the venison and chicken dish. Both were very good, and the waffle fries were especially delicious and well seasoned. Overall, the food had some real hits, but the crab dip was hard to overlook. Our server, Kyle, was fine. Nothing particularly noteworthy about the service, good or bad. One thing we learned is that you have to specifically ask for a bread basket, as one isn't automatically brought to the table. The restaurant got noticeably busier as the evening went on, although I'm not sure if that's typical or just because it was Halloween. Parking was plentiful, which made getting in and out easy. Overall, I'm glad we gave it a try. The atmosphere was pleasant, most of the food was good, and it was a nice way to spend an evening while visiting Luray. That said, between the dated interior and the disappointing crab dip, I can't say I'd be particularly eager to return. It was fine for what it was, but not somewhere I'd go out of my way to revisit.

By the time we finished our…read morehike, we were absolutely starving and just wanted somewhere to sit down, relax, and enjoy a good meal. Skyland seemed like the perfect spot, especially given its location along Skyline Drive. We arrived around 4 PM and learned that only the Taproom was open at that hour. It was fairly busy, but the staff kindly cleared off a high-top table for us, which we appreciated! Unfortunately, the menu was pretty limited, and they were out of several drinks we were excited to try, including the blackberry wine and blackberry margarita. A little disappointing, especially since we were looking forward to treating ourselves after the hike. I ended up ordering the burrata salad, which was just okay. What really caught my attention, though, was that the menu advertised heirloom tomatoes, but my salad arrived with ordinary cherry tomatoes. Now, I love a good tomato, but heirlooms and cherry tomatoes are not exactly interchangeable, especially when it comes to price! Given how expensive the menu already was, I expected a little more attention to what was actually being served. Thankfully, the service was a completely different story. Our server, Don, was fantastic! He was friendly, attentive, and genuinely made the experience more enjoyable. The rest of the staff was also lovely and accommodating, so absolutely no complaints there. We also learned that a separate dining room opens at 5 PM, with what appeared to be a much better menu and a truly spectacular view. If you're planning to visit, I'd recommend timing your meal for after 5. The view alone looked like it could make for a much nicer dining experience. All in all, I'm glad we had somewhere convenient to eat after our hike, and the wonderful service was certainly appreciated. However, between the limited menu, unavailable drinks, high prices, and pretty average food, I wouldn't go out of my way to return. If you're already exploring Skyline Drive and need a bite, it gets the job done. Otherwise, I'd save my appetite and money for somewhere else!

It's hard to beat sitting down for a meal surrounded by such beautiful scenery, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. As a vegetarian, I found the lunch options a bit limited. I ordered the Brussels sprouts and the ALTO vegan sandwich. Both were perfectly fine, but neither really stood out. The food was average overall, though I was grateful to have vegetarian options available while spending the day in the park. I did notice their dinner menu includes a roasted vegetable stew, which sounded more up my alley, but unfortunately I was there during lunch hours. Overall, come for the incredible views and convenient location while exploring the park. The food didn't wow me, but it served its purpose and the staff made for a pleasant experience.

After a day of spelunking...of sorts...we were ready for dinner. Before heading out to Luray, I…read moreresearched what restaurants were in the area. Circa '31 stood out as they had burgers, salads, sandwiches and some main courses. When we decided to go there, our son-in-law looked up the directions and we were pleased to see it wasn't far from the Caverns and an easy drive. The restaurant is in the Mimslyn Inn and is easy to find it once inside. Since we were having an early dinner, there was only one couple in the place. Our server seated and greeted our party of six. We sat at a huge table that could accommodate twelve. She arranged things so we were seated at one end. She took our drink orders. We all had soft drinks. I was pleased to see that they had sweet iced tea. Along with our drinks, we were given a bread basket and some butter with chives in it. The bread was fresh and the butter added nice flavor. For my main course, I got "butternut squash ravioli and lobster". This was a great dish. It consists of: "Butternut squash and parmesan ravioli with sauteed lobster and asparagus in a tarragon cream sauce". The delicate flavor of the butternut squash came through clearly. While the parmesan barely registered, that was fine with me. The tarragon cream sauce had great flavor yet it didn't overpower the components of the dish. The lobster portion was generous. Three in our party got the "Country Ham BLT". It consists of: "Fried salt cured Virginia ham, fried green tomatoes, crisp lettuce, pimento cheese on grilled rye served with a pickle and seasoned waffle fries". Those who had this sandwich raved about its flavor and its uniqueness. More than once they said how much they liked it. Two got the "Mimslyn burger" which consists of: "6 oz. local Burners Farm ground beef burger, lettuce, tomato, thick sliced red onions on a toasted brioche roll served with a pickle and seasoned waffle fries". One could add cheese for no extra cost and had a choice of different cheeses. Two added American cheese to theirs while one chose no cheese. One decided he didn't want fries and the server told him he could substitute a veggie from the selection in stock. He chose collard greens as he never had them before and wanted to try them. Everybody liked their burgers and fries. The one who got the collard greens didn't like them. To me, they looked bland and my guess is that was why he didn't like them. We didn't have dessert even though the offerings were tempting. I had hoped to post more photos but one of our grandsons offered to take photos of the sandwich, burger and collard greens...but...they didn't come out. The dining room has that southern charm to it. Our server was very nice and since it was slow when we were there, she engaged us in conversation. If you are in Luray and looking for a good spot for dinner, we all highly recommend Circa '31.

I took one sip and said I'd like to send it back (probably the first time I have ever asked to return a drink in my life). They charged me for the drink anyway. Ordered the duck. The chicken was acceptable, as was the broccolini, but the couscous was flavorless and gross. I would not recommend going here.
