Nice people working there but $10 lettuce Sandwich. Legitimately half the deli meat they used to make these with.

Great food and very reasonable prices for a touristy town. Service was efficient and adequate…read more I'm glad I had my seldom-eaten hamburger (patty melt) here because it was awesome! Very tasty burger with the grilled onions. The house-made chips are also good. My only complaint is the tiny "side salad" that I ordered. That it would be an upcharge with my burger but was charged $7 for the small salad. Server confirmed after questioning the bill.

We stopped into Grill 309 on a Wednesday night and downtown Culpeper was busy. We circled the block…read moreand found close free parking on a side street next to Grill 309. The interior gives upscale sports bar vibes. We chose a high top table toward the back of the restaurant. Our server ended up being the bartender too. They had $5 margaritas that night so I ordered one and we started with an order of their pierogies. There were four and they were served over a smear of their beer cheese. There were ok. I wanted more seasoning in the filling itself. It was pretty bland. For my entree I got their hot dog with chili and cheese with their housemade chips. I was pleasantly surprised to see a cheese sauce on the dog. It was pretty good. Some of the chips were pretty overcooked. The service brought this score down. I think the bartender was busy but plenty of servers were available. There was a lot of conversation at the bar. We probably should have just sat there. We missed out on drink refills, having our order taken promptly, and getting the check when we were ready to leave. Overall there were a lot of interesting things on the menu. I would want to return to see what else tasted good.

We came in for lunch on Sunday after church as we thought their special menu for the Harry Potter…read moreevent was really fun. Upon entering we were hit with what smelled like marijuana and we learned when leaving that there is a hookah lounge beneath this restaurant (extremely unfortunate!) The place has been renovated since the Thai restaurant was here and it was nice and bright and clean looking. There was only another party of 4 there when we entered and then another couple came in after us but it was very empty. We were greeted by a gentleman who brought waters for us and then took our orders. I ordered the Voldemort sandwich and my husband ordered the Potter wrap as well as the BlackBerry lemonade. Both sandwiches came with fries. The sandwiches were good but my husbands wrap was very small and mine was light on meat. The fries were nice and crispy and the blackberry lemonade was delicious. There was light rock music playing softly, ambiance was nice. All in all a good experience aside from the smell which was giving my husband a headache. I would probably return for dinner one night. I was trying to decide between giving this place 3 and 4 stars and opted on 4 because it's new (they have food trucks but the brick and mortar is new) and they're still getting things right and the fact that we came for lunch instead of dinner so the menu was very limited and I felt like maybe I wasn't getting the full experience.

They brought us amuse bouche of beet hummus and pita bread (on the house), and we then had the "beef sashimi" as an appetizer. I'm not usually into super rare beef, but this was outstanding. The beef melted in my mouth and the sauce and greens complimented it well. For the main course, I got the pork ribs, which may be the best I've had in my life. They came with a tangy barbecue sauce on the side, which was delicious but not really necessary given the flavor of the pork. Plenty of food, high quality, and good service! If they just tweaked the lighting and added some homey touches, they would have a line out the door. As it was, we were the only guests on a Friday evening. A shame since Culpeper has very few excellent restaurants, and the ones that exist are generally overpriced. We will definitely be coming back again!
