The negative reviews almost kept me away but I'm glad they didn't. Tony was great...tons of info, friendly, quick and extremely helpful. They certified my marine tank, told me that it was an extremely good unit and that it should last forever. Gave me lots of good tips and advice. Office staff were also very friendly. Signs clearly say they are closed for lunch from 12 - 1 and last customer is in at 3:45 (they probably should close then if that's the case but again, posted clearly). Showed up at 4:30 only to find out they WERE CLOSED! Yelp stated hours are open until 5pm. WRONG INFORMATION So I went back the next day only to find out they are closed 12-1pm for lunch as I waited outside. Cindy sat there inside waiting until exactly 1pm to open the door and conduct business as usual. LOL So Cindy proceeds to tell me their "yard guy" is out getting parts he'll be back in 10 minutes??!! There's a big issue with store 1645 in Concord. Monopolistic practices. Without warning, they raised their price 252% from our last fill just a month and a half ago. They invoiced us for over twice the current average for the area, an average we offered to pay, but they refuse work with us. It's really shady. Don't fall for it. read more

Stay away at all costs. Dealt with them for years - they are dangerous to deal with. Broke the warranty on my brand new water heater and filled my house up with propane in the process nearly blowing up my house with me and my kids inside. Another time they left the bleed valve open on me and I lost over 15lbs of propane. Another time they overfilled my tanks and almost blew me up that time, too. Adding up the facts that this company has almost killed me and my family several times, overcharged me by DOUBLE the going rate for propane for years, played games with my billing (I only ever requested 100 gallons at a time because that's what I could afford - they'd fill up both tanks and then try to charge me late fees on propane I never asked for), murdered a warranty on a brand new water heater without any repercussions- it's safe to say they are the WORST company I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. We moved into our new home towards the end of June 2018 and noticed there were gas tanks to the side of our garage. When we asked the previous homeowner about them, they said they were left from the previous owner (3 years ago) and they don't do anything with them. As we were settling into our house, we noticed documents had been taped to the propane tanks from Suburban Propane. We called them to ask what the costs were and there was some gray area regarding whether the gas in the tank was paid for or if we would have to settle the bill in order to keep the tanks. The employee let us know they would call us back- but the company admitted this person left the company and likely dropped the ball on this. Since these tanks were for the pool and we entered the winter season, we weren't even thinking about the tanks and again, the company's way of following up was taping a piece of paper to the tanks (They have to let themselves into our gated back yard to do this so they were back there several times). This lead to them coming and collecting the tanks while we were at work one day. (again, completely fine. We were not using them, we were really just waiting for them to clear up some of the questions we had if we decided to keep them.) The problem is we returned home to bad weather and heard our gate outside slamming open and shut. Our back yard gate, which was obviously open to their entrance in previous visits had been damaged. They took a crow bar to the gate, bent the metal latch and chipped away at the wood in the process. Aside from a very polite and friendly office communication, anyone higher up will not communicate with me regarding how this was handled. I had absolutely no business with them and would have been happy to work with them if they would have communicated with me, but they decided to damage my property instead. Please note how they handle people in their community when it comes time to select your propane needs- if we decide we do want propane in our back yard, I will absolutely not be using this company. read more

Would probably be a great business if they ever answered the phone. Tried calling her for about 3 weeks, 3 days a week and never got more than transferred to the national service center, which was unable to contact the local office either. The other guys worked out just fine for both of our new projects. The only truism about customer service is that people talk about very good service for about 2 weeks. Suburban recently took over my local company (Bluesky) and it has been nothing but a headache. I am glad the owners of Bluesky are happy and made out in selling their company, however they left their customers in the hands of a company that does not care about customer service. Well try: -Unrequested deliveries -Pricing gouging - bought over 100 gallons but paid double what my local gas station charges -Mysterious charges on bills with no explanation -Yeah they provide tanks but don't tell you that the contract specifies no on else but them can fill them. I made an appointment with them for the install of a new tank and service, just moved in to South Salem and needed propane services, they gave me a day and time,so I confirmed and left my job to meet them at my home around 3pm ,being that I live 45 min away,never showed up or called! July 12th I contacted Suburban Propane to install propane for our new build in Compass Pointe. I should have called Ford! Two months later I have a big ditch, sink hole around the buried tank and STILL not hooked up! They did finally bring an above ground tank to hook my stove and oven up too. It's a mess and they still have not completed the job. I should be charging them! Do not use Suburban Propane for your insulation! Suburban Propane are money hungry thieves. I've received 3 separate call about a stupid bill that included a $50 charge for a visit I didn't even ask for. I understand that it might be a Saturday morning. But, their advertising states that they are available 24/7. Thank goodness it is not a more serious issue, as I have been on hold listening to a message that tells me my approximate wait time is less than 5 minutes for one hour and 25 minutes and counting. Not to mention we called for propane last winter and they did not show up for a few days. Checked tank to be sure they did not show when we were not home and propane almost completely empty. We called again and they ended up delivering propane at 2 in the AM. Our neighbors must have just loved us for the truck awakening them in the middle of the night. The WORST Propane delivery you can have... I had my grill hooked up June 20th. When I came home from vacation, there was a huge gas leak, fumes all over my backyard. I shut off the gas to the grill and there's where the problem with Suburban started: It's taken me 7 calls and 7 full days to get a gas leak to my grill dealt with. And, to add insult to injury.... I just got a bill of $199 for the 'emergency call' when I noticed the line leaking. The didn't TELL me there was a $199 dollar charge to come out! (For the record, the guy was here less than 5 minutes, verified that I had, in fact, turned off the gas correctly (let's see, lefty loosey, righty tighty...). AND, to HOOK UP the grill originally, which actually involved some work, only cost me $139.95 I questioned the customer service WHY they didn't disclose the charge. They said: Her: If we didn't come out and there was an explosion it would be on us. Me: So, you charge the customer $199 BUT you don't mention the cost? Her: No, then you wouldn't do it.... When we bought our house there was a Suburban propane tank there. When it came time to fill it we were shocked to see they charged us almost twice the going rate. When we talked to them we were told it was because we were not using enough propane. Seriously. Our tank is close by their facility and easy to access. The next time the tank was ready to be filled we bought our own tank and had another company (Amerigas) install and fill it. They not only didn't charge any extra for low usage, they gave us a big price break for owning our own tank. Surburban has a high rate of drivers who try to blow.off an appointment, especially around quitting time, and has dispatchers who are more than willing to accommodate them. They tell you they will be at your home between 9-5 and even if you leave a number if its close to 5, they won't call and will give excuses like, "the repairman came by but no one was home" or "they couldn't get in the gate." I've received both excuses in the same conversation if you can believe that after being home all day waiting for these goobers. If i could give negative stars i would. read more

The customer service is very poor. They charged us the $300 setup fee but missed the appointment due to the snow storm. They had the wrong phone number for us so we never heard from them until we called upset. Then we received an email saying it was their 3rd attempt to reach us. Then when we asked for e refund they told us it would take several weeks and we'd receive a check instead of refunding our card. No one apologized, no one was accommodating. Worst company I ever dealt with. I was a cash on delivery customer with my own tank and delivery scheduled when I called. Not once that I can recall in several uses of them did they meet their delivery commitment. My other suppliers always met their commitments. At one time there was a perceived problem with my tank. Suburban was going to send out a service person. The service person showed up - a YEAR later unannounced. Service person needed to research unspecified part availability and said he would call me in the following week. I had to call them and they blew me off saying parts were not available. I found parts within a few miles of my place at several places. The service person left a temporary tank that wasn't supposed to be in place more than a week. One of my other propane suppliers fixed my tank without parts in 15 minutes. It has taken 2 years to get Suburban to remove the tank and then only when I told them I would put the tank at the street for anyone to take if they wanted it. I am a past Suburban fuel customer, Buyers beware Very Retalitory, I asked there prices and found out I was being overcharged in comparison, I called them and they said in not so many words, It Is What It Is, so I asked about an oil fill up and they said it would be an emergency delivery, Monday 3 blocks away, the fuel plus $175 I got angry started looking around and found for the last 3 years I had been overcharged over .40 a gallon ( well not intentionally ) I just thought there right up the street. THERE Customer service is terrible and than I had a gas tank removed after we talked and they retaliated again by charging me $135 approximately for cancellation of contact, which to th best of my knowledge I didn't have one. I only had it removed because they had no intention of a price match, like I said, their answer was, IT IS, WHAT IT IS ! Suburban buys this company my propane tanks was from in my yard which I purchased this house 7 months ago, the tank was 1/2 full of propane the employee from Suburban walked right on my property, private property and locked my tank! No notice no nothing! Then came back and removed the tank! When I asked him who he was and what he was doing he stated "we bought this company and tank belongs to us". I ask why didn't you notify us, give us a heads up or offer to keep your company? he simply said "who we gonna contact we don't know who you are and this is just what we do". What bs is that. I said the world send mail everyday 'TO CURRENT RESIDENCE' So I called the company let them know what was going on here and the father in my house that has stage 4 cancer and terminal condition, kids in the house and you are taking the tank without notice. They said sure we can let you keep our propane for $3.95 a gallon and fill up a tank plus a gas check fee and another $77... to rent the tank per year on contract with us. Uh NO if this how you do business and take from a family with the father that has stage 4 cancer and terminal condition, kids in the house and stole my gas wow!!! Who would go with this company. We were new to propane when we purchased our home with a tank and service from Suburban Propane. My experience with the St Albans Office was exceptional. Adrienne was over the top providing me with all the information I needed to learn about the service options, and generous with her time to make sure I was comfortable with everything. I would strongly recommend them for service if you have propane needs. Sadly we are converting to natural gas, I will miss this level of customer service which I do not get from many places these days. read more

Terrible ethics, awful awful company. Taking over for my 92 year old dad, and I discovered that they have been ripping off my elderly father off at 2X the market rate of propane for the last 17 years. Disgusted, but polite, I called and told them that we want to close the account. They were not having it, they inform me that they own the tank (They the buried in the dirt 17 years ago) and there is no way that I can purchase it, because it was "a leased tank" Keep in mind that over the last 17 years Dad bought about $4,000 of gas per year, which comes out to abut $68,000 overall. Not being satisfied with ripping him off for close to 35 grand worth of markup, they are refusing to let me buy this tank. They are holding an elderly man captive in an unfair deal. Keep in mind that the service life of an under ground tank is about 30 years, but pulling this tank out of the dirt would render it non-re-usable to anyone else. The tank, if pulled, is scrap metal to them. Oh, and they are going to charge $$$ to pull the tank.. If it comes to that. Still trying to be reasonable, I ask the manager "Please, I wish to purchase this tank" Instead of simply coming up with a price, the unreasonable representative keeps asking, "why do you want to own the tank?" Again I ask him, "How much do you want for the used tank, I wish to own the tank." -- my questions are met with questions from him, it is clear, he has no desire to sell the tank: I was direct with him... "Let me buy the tank, and if your price for gas is reasonably in line with that of the market, I will continue to buy your gas" -- "Well, you don't buy that much gas per year.. he replies.. " I guess 1000 gallons a year is "not that much" -- $4,000 on social security is a hell of a lot, I can assure you of that my friend. I wonder if his mother owns her own tank, or is paying 2X the market rate? I bet not. Disgraceful. I understand that they need to be paid to deliver, I understand that they need to make a profit, but this is simply criminal, monopolistic behavior taking advantage of an elderly old man. Its just WRONG! These people are predator's. This is WHY people hate big business. This is why there is an office of consumer protection (which I have opened up a case with) A fair, price for a new 1,000 gallon tank is about $7000, buried and installed from a reputable company. Keep this in mind. Do your families a favor, and look over their bills and what market rate is. I bet your loved ones are getting ripped off too. read more

I had to use them because I lived in a rental of two places so the gas was on a meter so they charged me up tp fifteen dollars a gallon and the less I used the more they charged. They are a total rip off NJ company. Knocked down my cable wire several times and never said anything. when I moved and canceled my service they said I had a hundred dollar deposit but only gave me thirty two $. thirty years I had to put up with this they are so f@#k up I just had to do this. read more

My propane gas tank was replaced by Suburban propane in the fall--at their behest not mine. They just did it. When the installation guy left, he told me, not to worry, I had enough gas for a few months and in the meantime, the company would fill up my new tank AND give me a credit for the gas they took with them in the old tank. Long story not short, four months later, I run out of gas. Suburban fills the tank and leaves me with a bill of $277.84 minus the promised credit. We did not have good luck with Suburban. We requested to rent a large tank because our road is not easily accessible during the winter months and would be adding heat to our garage but were told we could not have it because it was unnecessary. We were signed up for automatic delivery and ran out five days ago. We called to let them know we were out the same day and still do not have propane, not worth the $4.00 per gallon cost.
