I'm sorry to be one of the detractors. The first time I brought a project to them they did fine. Knocked it out in a timely fashion and the work was decent. So I come to them a second time, for work on the same ongoing project. They tell me that the work could be done the following week. I call that following week and leave a message. No reply. I'm really busy and can't stop and deal with it. I figured I'll pick it up when I can. The following week after that. I come in and all my parts are just sitting there on the floor. Unfinished. I get a bunch of excuses. I just take my components and leave. Very disappointing. And they didn't even seem to care. Not one bit. read more

Great workshop, turn over is quick and efficient. they are a good size metal fabricator and seem to have a wide range of capabilities with a large selection of profiles on hand. I changed this to a five star from a four star. At the time I felt somewhat cold-shouldered by Eva, who mans the front desk. But sh made the effort to contact me, ask what had gone wrong and apologized. That was a real positive surprise. In an age where people have a short attention span, to make the effort to try to find out what didn't work as well as I expected was refreshing. Eva has also been charming and helpful since and I am guessing, we were both not having a great day. I've been doing business with Moose metal for many years. Most of my projects are small and some require the use of water jet cutting, welding and fabricating. I have always been very happy with the service and quality of work provided by Moose Metal, most recently a 25 foot steel railing. This job required on site measuring and fitting during the fabricating process. It ended up a perfect fit and was installed in a timely fashion. Moose Metal also keeps a large variety of stock on hand and gladly sells steel supplies for the do it yourselfer. Happy to have Moose Metal only 10 minutes away from home. I sent my wife to Moose to pick up some aluminum bar. My wife was treated poorly by an older lady behind the desk. She was rude, and made negative comments to the effect that "wives come in here all the time and are clueless." My wife knew what she needed with the exception of solid bar versus pipe. There was no need for this discourteous manner. After we finally sorted what was needed, the bar was cut and handed to my wife with the sharp end pointed towards her and a stern admonition that "be careful, that end is sharp!" Great experience! I needed various pieces of mild steel to complete a fire pit project in our yard. I called in at lunch time and Ewa was very quick to give me a quote on a couple different options. I ended up placing an order and about 2 hours later i was called that everything was cut and ready for pickup. The other reviews about moose metal are very accurate. I had an interesting experience with Rick. I called to ask if they do corten steel gates as I need two pairs for my home. Large 8' high by 16' wide. He was quite abrupt and not very polite on the phone. Declined to give rough budget estimate. Wanted drawings. Fair enough. I sent him the drawings. Response was slow and when I told him I needed him to submit a bid so I could compare prices before making selection, he said he only worked on jobs that didn't need bids. Apparently he has enough business from clients who don't do bids for large projects. Rude guy. Arrogant demeanor. Based on my experience I would not recommend him similar to the majority of the other reviews. read more

If I could review no stars I would! This isn't a knee jerk reaction, I've given this business multiple opportunities to have my business, but after this last interaction I will no longer do business with them. I am a small race car fabrication shop and I like to keep my money local to keep small businesses alive in times like these. The following has happened at least on three different occasions. I call I get an inexperienced individual on the phone they do a good job of taking down my information and offered a call back with a quote...cool! No call... I call back hours later,get a different person and have to give all the same info again, they offer a call back with a quote...cool? No call.... I call back AGAIN, this time no one picks up and I have to leave a message, I leave all the info again! I finally get a call back with a price gouge quote of $1000 and that I won't have the materials for 3 WEEKS! Now I know what your saying what I want must be special and expensive.....no a 4x8 sheet of .090 1100 aluminum sheet? Go ahead price it out it NO WHERE NEAR $1000! On top of all this the staff are rude unhelpful on the phone and in person. And the straw that broke the camels back? Out of respect I called them back like I told them I was going to do to confirm or reject the quote and I get a call back with in seconds from the owner trying to argue with me that I am in the wrong with feeling taking advantage of and being price gouged?!? NOPE IM OUT! I urge you to not use this business they are not worth the effort or trouble. There are other better choices near by! Good luck and thanks for the time on this issue! Terrible customer service. I dealt w Rick (the owner I think) after phoning for an estimate. When I showed up a couple hours later, the price was higher and Rick dismissed the fact that I was given a cost and told that the work would be done while I waited. To cap off a bad experience, the work was shoddy. I asked for a piece to be cut in 6 equal lengths. I got back 6 unequal pieces, raw edges and a lot of attitude when I raised dissatisfaction. I took a small dragonfly to get fixed on Monday. I was told by Rick it would be done on Wednesday, $60.00 for a half hour of work. I called Rick on Wednesday late afternoon and he told me they were backed up and he would have it Thursday and HE would call me. I waited, no call. I called this morning and spoke to Mary (very nice) and she told me it would be done. An hour and a half later, she called and said it was done. Rick acted like he was doing me a favor. I first met moose metal at the Tulare International Ag Expo. I was interested in the Ag Sprinkler reels. I took a card and called when when we got closer to the valley heat. I called the company and spoke with the owner. I told him what I was interested in and told him the price I was quoted at the expo. I understand that the show price was void after the expo was over. I told him I still wanted to get a price and wanted to purchase one. I told him that my son in law has a custom farming company as well as his own 250 acres and he wanted me to get a price on the bigger reel. He asked if I had the water pressure needed to run the system or do I need a booster pump. I have plenty of pressure but told him I wanted to know how much the pump was. I was told he would have to get me a price on the units and he would get back to me in a couple of days. That was on a Thursday so I knew the weekend days didn't count so I waited a full week and three days before I called back to ask if he had the prices. No answer, went to voice mail. I left a message and asked them to call me. I didn't receive a call back but I thought his business must be busy and gave the benefit of the doubt. I called again and was told they would have him call me back as soon as he had time. No Call Back. I would not give Moose Metal my business now even with a discount. If they are so busy that I have to keep asking for just a price I can only imagine how I would be treated after the sale. I believe the product needs to be quality and the company service minded. read more

Instead of taking advantage of someone, the owner (I'm assuming) gave me the confidence to do the job my self and save approx $90. So off I went with a $7 piece of steel and wa-la... I'm fairly new to welding and do it as a hobby (not artsy fartsy metal working but making usable things), so I bumbled a little with my terminology of what I was looking for. The woman that was helping me was courteous and helpful throughout despite the original material I ask for was not what I wanted and resulted in some walking back and forth for her. She assisted me in identifying the material I wanted quickly without making me feel more dumb then I did on my own. LIW closed the account and moved to a better bank, Moose metals then deposited the check and it did not clear, they finally gave me the info to pay many years after the check was returnwd, I seen their nasty post on yelp 8 years latter and paid the amount in full imesdistley after thwy proved all, Also the angle Iron that was purchased was cut short but no word about this in all, just real bad buisisness practices, They stated after the check was paid they would clean all up, another lie, the check was paid over a year ago oh well. This review is just my experience with the shop and shop owner, never have seen any finished work so can't comment on that. I was shopping on the internet for a local metal shop to fabricate and weld a relatively simple design I have and decided on Moose metal becuase it was local. If you are like me and you need small, custom metal work done for a hobby or weekend project, the first challenge is to find a place that is a good fit for your project. It's difficult to even describe my experience with the owner of this shop. I left confused and perplexed. I'll only say it was one of the strangest customer relation experiences I've ever had. I would never entrust this guy with my projects. To summarize some of the highlights from my meeting with him, he basically didn't "approve" of my design of what I wanted him to build, said it could be done simpler. If I wanted him to design it, I would have said so! Better yet, I'd just go to a store and buy something off the shelf, I'm in your shop because I want my design built! But, I said ok, well if you could give me direction on what you think needs to be different for you to be able to build it? "I'll just tell you you have more homework to do... the way this is it's going to cost you a fortune to build" Well, ok, just please give me a quote and can you recommend which thickness of steel to use? "I have 50 years of knowledge, but that's taken 50 years to get, and we don't give that away for free at this shop..." It was like two trains passing in the night. I wanted a quote and maybe a recommendation on which thickness of metal might be best to try. We're talking about a 2 foot by 2 foot box design with a flange edge, not a space shuttle! I was also asked where I worked, what kind of work I did, but not casual conversation, this was to determine if I had enough money to take a product to market, and he had to quiz me down about it! I'm trying to have a fun weekend project built, where is this coming from? Another quote: "I've taken products to market, I know how much money you better be ready to spend!" I felt like I hadn't had enough coffee to deal with this conversation. After 5 minutes, I realized it was a big mistake to come to this shop. Here's what I would like built, tell me how much! Should be simple answer, but wasn't with this place. This guy cannot communicate at all and that's a problem if you're trying to hire someone to make something for you. I felt like this guy just kept moving his mouth and the equivalent of flatulent kept flying out. I left confused, not knowing if he would help or tell me just to beat it after 15 minutes. I can tell you, examples he was giving me, over 80 bucks and hour for any work and the fact he thought a box design would take over 10 hours to make, seems rediculously high. With that being said, he never actually gave me a quote! I would shop around before going to this place for any custom work, better options out there I'm sure. read more

If I were you, I would avoid doing business with Moose Metal. My simple project of having a numeral glued to a piece of stainless steel proved to be very costly and yet aesthetically disappointing. Got recommended to come here by a few people on my car forum and also by a reputable shop. I needed to get a crank pulley bored out. Everything went smoothly from dropping off the pulley to the estimated time they would get it finished. I picked up the pulley and thought everything was fine until I got home. Someone at the shop dropped the pulley from a counter or something since one of the lip is cracked and on the other side of the same lip is dented in. I didn't realize it until I started installing it onto my car. Will never use this shop again, ruining a customers piece and not even informing them. read more

This company has failed me several times. I've called to make orders in the past with owner Rick and his wife. I don't know if they have marital problems but they need to resolve their issues because they have poor customer service. I agree with other yelpers and customer complaints. I have talked to him in person and told him my complaint and he told me go somewhere else and that my business is not appreciated there and that somebody else would better suit my needs. They will not be getting my business anytime in the future and never again and I am now putting zero stars for them across the board. Strike three you're out! read more
