Keith and the team worked on my 1987 Jeep Comanche truck and they could not have done a better job…read more They communicated great throughout the whole process. Keith was transparent and kind throughout the restoration, providing updated timeframes and cost adjustments that made the whole ordeal much less stressful. The truck had not been driven in years and by the time they were done with it they had restored it to a thing a beauty. The truck eventually made the long drive to its new home in Vermont with no problems and it has been running smoothly ever since. I could not recommend Keith and his team more.

I went to Gibbons when my emergency brake hung up. If I had a lift I would have fixed it myself…read more I dropped it off and waited for them to contact me. A day later they called me to tell me it was fixed. It cost over $600 and they couldn't tell me exactly what was wrong. After having problems with the explanation, he finally just said, "The brakes were put on wrong". First, the brakes had been on the truck for over a year with no problems. Second, they didn't replace the brakes. The bill showed seals and labor. The emergency brakes weren't hung up any more so I left it at that but I'll never go back again.

The whole crew made the process feel smooth and well organized, which really took a lot of stress off me. I want to give a special shout-out to Ian, the Customer Service Manager. The extreme cold weather slowed down the paint process, but he and the team did everything they could to stay on schedule and get my car back to me as promised. I truly appreciate that effort. They also noticed an issue with my tire and brought it to my attention, making sure I understood the safety concern. They even helped me find a discounted replacement tire to bring the cost down. That meant a lot to me. It felt like they were looking out for me, not just trying to make extra bucks. Communication was great as well. I received regular updates, so I always knew what was going on. While they're busy, they have a shop cat to keep you company while you're waiting. The damage was significant and I was crestfallen -- but I knew exactly where to turn. I've been going to Classic Coachwork for over 25 years. I first discovered them in my 20s when, after a fender bender, I called a local BMW dealership to ask who they trusted for bodywork. They pointed me to Classic Coachwork, and I figured: if it's good enough for BMW, it's good enough for me. Since then I've brought them four more cars over the years, and they have restored every single one to pristine condition. What sets them apart goes beyond the bodywork. They're tenacious advocates when it comes to dealing with insurance companies -- fighting for OEM parts and thoroughly inspecting every inch of the vehicle once it's disassembled to ensure all hidden damage gets properly documented and covered. They also do an excellent job of keeping you updated throughout the process and setting realistic expectations on turnaround time, so there are no surprises. When I picked up both cars, the interiors were spotlessly clean -- like a complimentary detailing. And a small but genuinely helpful touch: they share a parking lot with a car rental agency, making drop-off and pickup completely seamless. 25 years and counting -- I wouldn't take my cars anywhere else.

I would strongly caution anyone considering Steve's Auto…read more I brought my car in for a noise issue and was told the sway bar needed to be replaced ($360). I also requested an oil change, and during that service I was later told the oil pan bolt "broke" and that I now needed a new oil pan for an additional $600. I was not properly warned beforehand and felt pressured to pay, bringing my total close to $1,000. Just days later, the exact same noise was still there. When I brought it back, I was told it would now cost $900 for control arms. When I questioned why the original issue wasn't resolved, Steve became dismissive, hung up on me, and refused to do the repair. Regardless of the mechanical explanation, hanging up on a paying customer and refusing service when concerns are raised is unprofessional. I cannot recommend a business that handles customer concerns this way.

Fulmer's saved me over $3500, and then also fixed a problem for $130 that the dealer created and…read morethen couldn't resolve after three separate visits. Apparently NY law requires dealers to only work on exhaust systems with original manufacturer parts. So the fact that I had a couple of rusted out hangers meant that the Toyota dealer wanted $4000 to replace the entire exhaust system including the catalytic converter. PA does not have this requirement, and Henry at Fulmer's said he could weld on a couple of brackets for $200 and fix the problem. When he got the car up on the rack, it appeared that somewhere along the way, someone (probably the dealer) had replaced one of the brackets with a hose clamp, which itself was just dangling from the exhaust pipe. The dealer had also told me I needed new rear brakes, and I believed them, and had the work done for ~$2000. But literally as soon as I drove out of the shop, it was making these unpleasant low-frequency groans when I applied the brakes. I took it back the next day, and then on two subsequent occasions, and they were unable to tell me what was wrong. Henry took a look at (and listen to) it and diagnosed it as "someone didn't clean the protective adhesive layer off your new rotor, and now it has gummed up the new pads." Sure enough, when I went back today he showed me the gummy stuff smeared off the edges of the brake pads. He cleaned it up with some sandpaper and graphite, and as soon as I drove away I realized I had forgotten there had been anything wrong, because there were no weird noises coming from my car any longer. I just appreciate so much what they did that I wanted to share this info with anyone who might get an "oh god now I have to buy a new car" quote from your dealer, and suggest maybe it's worth a call to see if a real old-fashioned mechanic can sort you out for a fraction of the cost.
