I went to Gibbons when my emergency brake hung up. If I had a lift I would have fixed it myself. I dropped it off and waited for them to contact me. A day later they called me to tell me it was fixed. It cost over $600 and they couldn't tell me exactly what was wrong. After having problems with the explanation, he finally just said, "The brakes were put on wrong". First, the brakes had been on the truck for over a year with no problems. Second, they didn't replace the brakes. The bill showed seals and labor. The emergency brakes weren't hung up any more so I left it at that but I'll never go back again. read more

They said who the hell did the brakes? I said Gibbons why? The mechanic said they were installed completely wrong and if you had driven it much further they would have failed and caused an accident. I called to complain and they asked to speak with the mechanic. When he was done they said they're paying our shop to reinstall them the correct way. Highway Robbery! Don't go here! I bought a brand new 2024 SUV out-of-state and needed it inspected. 1,170 miles on it. New! I made an appt and brought it in. Shame on me for not asking the price ahead of time, but the place was in my hometown. I never thought to ask. I mean, how much could an inspection be? It cost me $162.68. Look at the receipt! They charged me for $22.04 in parts. $4.48 in hazardous material on a new electric vehicle. I said to the guy what the heck? He said there is more to do on an electric vehicle. I had this shop install brakes on my truck. After driving it home I looked at the brakes rotors which were new and both sides were covered in thick grease. I cleaned it as good as possible and called to complain and Arty defended his mechanic and said they know what they're doing and doesn't know how they could have been that sloppy. The truck sat for a few weeks till I drove it to another shop a half mile from my house to have new tires mounted. The mechanic said who the hell did the brakes? I said Gibbons auto and the mechanic said they are installed completely wrong and if I drove it much further the front brakes would completely have failed locking up the front brakes and possibly causing an accident. Gibbons admitted they screwed it up as paid the other shops fee to have the brakes reinstalled the correct way. I'm still trying to see if they did any permanent damage to the new rotors, callipers or pads. I would worry about anyone that would allow this shop work on their brakes or any repair on the vehicle. If you do you better have it checked by another shop before allowing you kids to drive the car. read more

I cannot speak to their work, this is more for customer service. I walked in recently to ask about an oil change. As I approached one of the mechanics was working in the bay, and pointed me to the office before I said anything. When I got inside, both employees (2) were on the phone. They saw me, but neither acknowledged by presence. The woman at one point got up and walked out on her phone. The man (I presume the owner) spoke for about ten minutes before getting off the phone, and did not seem to be in any hurry to get off the phone. Finally, he told me his schedule was full and could not do the oil change. At that point he was patient and showed me his full book. I would have appreciated even a slight nod, an eyebrow raise, **something**, while I stood there waiting. read more

I've really had good experiences at Gibbons over the years. Very prompt and fair prices. (When I moved up to Media and before I had them work on my car I had my former mechanic look at their quote for my brakes and he assured me it was a very good price for the service.) Can get you in quick for state inspections as well. They send you a text message when your car is ready which is nice. All the staff I have interacted with were really helpful and accommodating, they even gave my dog water while we waited. I had the 100k service done for my car by Gibbons. This was my first and last time using them. The price was far more than what was expected. Yes, they did give me a price before the work was done, but when I called to make the appointment I was told $200-300 and then when I had dropped the car off I was told $700+. I did not have the luxury of taking it somewhere else so i was stuck. They then told me a pick up time. I arrived and was told that it would be a few more minutes. After close to an hour sitting in their threadbare waiting room with barely any air conditioning or ventilation on a very hot day the car was done. The gent at the counter was rude and kept making excuses for the poor communication. So, two thumbs down. read more

Mike at Gibbons is definitely intelligent when it comes to vehicles, however his professionalism and explanation to reasoning is incredibly off kilter. I couldn't be more upset with my experience with them and there isn't a chance I'll be giving them repeat business. In my experience, Mike is conceited, talks down to you from his own little world and certainly did not respect me as a paying customer. Not to mention he was hot-headed and argued with me when I pointed out that it has been two weeks and I still haven't received the report that I paid for. He claims that he has been too busy to complete the report even though money was already exchanged - TALK ABOUT A RIP OFF His staff was definitely in training because he had to instruct them on everything they were doing and making sure they weren't doing things incorrectly. I had a lot of trepidation going to Gibbons after reading such mixed reviews, but I'm glad I decided to go. I have an ongoing problem with my car, but that's not what is important. What's important is that these men were courteous, explained everything to me, were willing to ride with me to identify the noise, and took the car in twice to find the problem. It was almost a point of pride that they figure out what was causing the noise. What I didn't tell them was that I had the car at another garage prior to bringing it to them, and they couldn't find the source of the noise either. What's amazing is that Walter actually spent quite a bit of time talking me out of repairs that I thought I needed, but which he said could wait with no risk to me or the car. I was provided with an estimate if I did want the repairs and it was a lot of money. He could easily have sold me a bag of goods, but he didn't. That's the definition of honesty. read more

I know! How can one person rate a business 5 stars and then change it to 1? This is why. The first experience was a great one. Service was good and the prices decent. However, my husband took my car there for an oil change. He told them to "change the filters if they are dirty" meaning, the oil filter. When he went to pick it up, they had changed the oil filter, gas filter AND PVC filter and what was supposed to be an oil change was $214.00! It sounds as if he gave them cart blanch to change whatever filter they wanted, but this was really not appropriate. He then asked them how much his truck would be to inspect it and they told him $680.00 because they thought he would need tons of work done. We then took it to Iaccona's in Upland where he got an inspection and emmissions test for $55.00 total. Will never go back to Gibbons - EVER. read more

DO NOT GO HERE THEY GIVE YOUR CAR MORE PROBLEMS AND THEN LIE ABOUT IT. Zero professionalism. Went there to get my timing belt fixed, they lied about how fast they could fix it by about four days, and when they did replace my timing belt after about a week my horn stopped working and the interior lights behind my speedometer and other gauges went out. When I took it back they denied having anything to do with it, wouldn't answer my questions about cost or what happened or how to go about fixing it, and just handed my my key and that was it. On top of that there is an idle misfire now that was never there before and said that it always was. It also cost 400 over the high end of the average cost to replace a dodge stratus timing belt. Then they left my car across the street in the middle of media with my trunk blatantly open and a piece of the interior just on my passenger seat. Update: I stopped back in because I was in the area and had left my phone charger there and was then yelled at in front of customers and lied to about how many miles were on my car and said the engine seized and was then "brought back to life" which it hadn't because my car was turning over. I was told to bring it back in but I only dropped someone off and was very busy and also not too keen to go back to someone who just yelled at me in front of other customers. This place was quite professional and courteous until the end where I was left high and dry with no explanation besides the steering wheel needs to be taken apart but there were no answers to my questions like how much it would cost or why and how it happened. If I receive an apology for the way I was publicly yelled at and at least try to fix my horn and lights that were completely functional until it was brought to the shop I would be more than happy to change my review and put this frustrating situation in the past. read more

Needed an inspection quickly since we waited last minute and found out that our old shop had closed this summer. Called 3 other local shops and was given a 5-14 day wait time for an appointment. Called Gibbons on a Tuesday and was told we could drop it off 8AM the next day. So we did and then received a text asking to call them back 3 hours later and was told the rear brake pads were too worn to pass inspection. I picked up the car and explained I would replace the pads personally and bring it back for reinspection/sticker. Amazingly I didn't get any attitude from the shop for preferring to do an inexpensive maintenance job on my own car. Nor did I get a laundry list of made-up problems or services that had no bearing on the car's ability to pass inspection. I went to NAPA and picked up a high quality set of rear pads and installed them myself. Visually inspecting the old pads, I was able to confirm they were absolutely worn and wouldn't last another year. I called to schedule a reinspection and they got me in first thing after the weekend. An hour later I got another text saying the car was ready to pick up. Everything went smoothly and quickly and I left satisfied. I'm happy to have found a new shop that I feel I can trust with any issues that might arise above my ability to diagnose/resolve, or just to get a no-hassle annual inspection. read more

I took my 2015 Ford Explorer to Gibbons for an electrical problem I was having with the buttons on the steering wheel that changes the stations and access the Bluetooth. Electrical problems in a vehicle can be a real pain in the neck to find and fix but Mike and Jimmy didn't give up. It took some doing but they found it and fixed it on a Saturday morning no less. Do NOT even think about bringing your car here. Dropped my car off to be inspected - its an older car so I knew it needs work but just wanted to know what it needed to pass inspection. No one called me for 3 WEEKS. Finally I called (delayed calling initially bc didn't know if they were waiting for parts, and wasn't trying to rush/piss off any mechanic - and it was my first time bringing a car there) - got ahold of Walt who said I needed to come in to go over a "laundry list" of work the car needs. I get there - Mike proceeds to tell me that he can't put a price on the car and that I'm looking at $4,000 in parts alone. Then he tells me he called me twice but my voicemail was full. No one else in those three weeks had any trouble calling me or leaving a message. He said he called twice. Then he charges me $36 for looking at the car. Strike ONE. So I leave, tell him I'm going to think about it (even though I knew there is no way the car needs $4,000 in parts alone as I've already looked up most of the parts it needs (american muscle car/chevy parts run CHEAP). I get home, and check my mail only to find a PARKING TICKET from the Media police. Strike TWO Mike. Why didn't Mike tell me about the parking ticket while I was in the shop??? Clearly the ticket was issued right next to his shop where he parked the car on the street. So I call Media Police, and they tell me that when something like this happens, Gibbons Auto takes care of it. So I call Mike, who gets upset with me and tells me he's not going to pay the ticket ($35) because if he does then he makes NO MONEY on the car. Wow showing your true colors there buddy. All about making that $ - nice. So while Mike is yelling this at me, I tell him to forget about it, and I will pay the cost of the ticket. Strike THREE. Lastly, I go to pick up my car from where it's parked on the street, and the damn battery is dead (from sitting so long). Thanks Gibbons Automotive - for nothing. Also, instead of charging a ridiculous fee to fix the problem he informed it was covered under my warranty, so Cadillac fixed for free. Very honest, trustworthy, and quick. On top of the fact that they provide great service and quality work, what's best about these guys is that they are always honest in how they treat the customer. Prime example is the couple of times I thought I had a major issue and they actually were able to tell me the issue was minor and turned over the car to me for a repair cost that was a very small fraction of what I was expecting. Been going to Gibbons for years now. It's the kind of place where people know there stuff, and you don't have to worry about details getting lost in layers of communication. They are passionate about cars and are not above answering the phone themselves while working on your car. They know my car, and it's still going strong at 140,000 miles (it was probably around 25,000 when I first started going there). Mike's been there since I started going, and Walt's been there for a good amount of time, so there's not much turnover with management. I purchased a used car in April if 2017 and The exhaust was making a rattling noise. I work in media pa and thought I'd give the local Garage a try due to It being convenient and in walking distance. My amateur diagnoses told me that the exhaust was just loose and could be fixed by securing It. They told me that the exhaust had been patched 6 times and that the noise was coming from inside of It and I would need a new one in order to fix the problem. I have a garage owned by a friend in Lancaster, so I decided i would wait until the inspection was due and i would take it them. It's now December 2017 and the inspection was due so I brought it to my garage here in Lancaster, requesting a new exhaust be installed. My mechanic told me that the exhaust has 2 patches on It but was done well, and is operating completely fine and that the noise is due to the exhaust being loose. It was fixed with a $26 exhaust hanger. I spent 8 months of my life concerned that I had a large bill, in the $400-600 range hanging over my head, due to what was more than likely this wonderful garages attempt to take advantage of me. I will not rule out the possibility that it was an innocent mistake, maybe It was, but if that is the case I would never recommend anyone go here because they must not know what they're doing. Bought a pre-owned, high end BMW from Mike Gibbons back in June of 2013. I normally do not write reviews but he treated us well and is deserving of a positive review. Mike took the time and effort to make sure we were happy with the vehicle which was a little over 10 years old at that point. For example, he touched up some chips in the paint, worked with the prior owner to have some curb rashed fixed on two rims, and changed the oil. He also gave us an education on what to look for when purchasing a used car which he demonstrated when the car was on the ground and when he put it on the lift. My son a medical student in Philly was going to his first day shadowing a Pediatrician 40 minutes away from his apartment and got a blow out flat tire, AAA came and couldn't get the spare from under the rear of the car, it was rusted and frozen. They towed the car to Gibbons who assured him he would have a new tire and have the car ready for him for his trip home. I spoke with them later on in the day and he managed to get the spare tire out too from the frozen undercarriage and put the spare in the trunk in case he gets another flat. They were able to get another tire and mount it ready for my son. They were so nice when I told them my son had to take a cab back from the Pediatricians office and I hope with traffic he would be there before he closed. He said he would stay until my son got there. This is a terrific garage, got the work done and did more than asked and got my son home safe and sound.
