I tried the red velvet and Samoa cupcakes and they were absolutely delicious. The red velvet was my favorite--perfectly moist with frosting that wasn't overly sweet, which is hard to find with cupcakes. Everything tasted fresh and well balanced. I'd absolutely come back and try more flavors. Staff was friendly and gave his recommendations. read more

My mom brags about this place. He is food network cake wars winner.. he definitely deserves it. He does special order cakes. I really like nature feel of the place. I used them for my wedding in November, I called sometime around august to schedule a pick up for the tasting box. First thing, absolutely delicious, extremely flexible with everything I had going on, and so so helpful and kind. When I went in to pick up the box, everyone was so nice, it was clean and tidy. Then I scheduled a consultation to pick the cake, I went with the small 6 inch personal cake and 60 cupcakes. I chose red velvet for the cake and 2 different flavors for the cupcakes, made the down payment. With wedding planning and bills all being so expensive, I didn't have money for a moment to finish paying for the cake until about a week before the wedding, I called and paid as soon as I got paid. Wiley was so understanding of this situation. I will definitely be back for treats. 10/10 experience 10/10 service and 10/10 quality. read more

I am so glad I found out about this place, because these are the best cupcakes you'll ever eat. Even 3 days after having the cupcake, they are still moist and delicious. The service was great and fast and no one was in there. The shop is small and there is no place to sit down, but it is a cake shop so therefore most of the time you will probably be there to just pick up anyways. I can't recommend this place enough and will continue to come here more often. If you do plan on getting cupcakes get there early because they do run out fast, I went around noon on my lunch and they only have a few regular size cupcakes, but a ton of small ones. read more

Was in the Redding area and before coming I googled places to eat that were sponsor on the food network. To my surprise this cake place was featured as a two time winner in "cake wars." As a food network fanatic I knew right away i had to check out this place. So i booked marked this location in my yelp bookmarks as places to go during my Redding staycation. So, before I left Redding I went to get my cupcakes. I was the first one to arrive to this cupcake place. Upon entering I did not know what cupcakes to get. Simce they all looked soo delicious. They have normal size cupcakes and small size cupcakes. I went ahead and ordered regular size cupcakes. I got "red velvet." Which was very light, fluffy, and had a bit of edible red glitter sprinkled on the top. As for my partner he got the cloud 9 cupcake. Its a vanilla bean cupcake with caramel filling. It was really good! Overall, I would highly reccomend checking this place out. My only regret is not getting a cupcake of each flavor to bring back home. Absolutely love this place. Their staff is nothing short of helpful & sweet as the desserts they serve. They are all knowledgeable of their services & goods they offer. I ordered a custom cake for a party and it came out absolutely beyond my vision. It was great!! Everyone was absolutely impressed with the craftsmanship and artistic ability- not to mention that it tasted FANTASTIC. Ive have cupcakes from them over the years at numerous functions and I've never been disappointed. We ordered another custom cake and once again, Sublime did not disappoint! Their customer service is always top notch and their products excellent! The cake was for our daughter's baby shower, which was in the Bay Area. We drove 3.5 hours (very carefully) and made it safely. The design is on point and the cake was incredibly good!!! read more

Cake was very expensive and tasted like box cake mix, lard icing and the lemon curd was NOT lemon curd it was some kind of chemically tasting yellow store bought jelly. The cake was ordered as a coconut cake but again, tasted like bland white cake with coconut sprinkled on top. The "full sizes" cup cakes were the same. Basically to sum it up, Sublime is going off its reputation for winning on a tv show but in reality, it's cookie cutter cake making. Very disappointing. I could have done better at home. read more

Cute cakes, Sweet people. But if I can be totally honest, if I only made cupcakes...I would take a lot more risk on the flavors! They weren't horrible, but they were the normal flavors you get at every store. (Sorry sweet people I hope this helps inspire you to take risks!) Your work is excellent, and have you ever just wanted to try out crazy contrasting flavors? You should! The space is a bit hidden on a circular building. Recently bought a few cupcakes here. I have purchased them in the past and also my wife's birthday cake which was great but the cupcakes have gotten smaller.... too small in my opinion they also didn't seem as fresh as I thought they should be. I bought four cupcakes for $12 dollars. I ran into the headman in the same parking lot and was in there for maybe 7 minutes and two of the cupcakes melted. Great service!!! We needed some gender reveal cupcakes at the very last minute due to a change in plans. We went in right before they closed and the staff was not only able to accommodate the request, but they were so excited for us and happy to do so even though they would be closing soon. I went into this place to try to order a cake for my grandson's first birthday, and was literally told no that they could not make a small round white cake that looked like a baseball for the following day... The guy was super rude and unprofessional. When I explained to him that I needed this cake for the next day he said good luck there's no other cake places in town. He offered me a cupcake as a replacement for a smash cake... Total jerk, I would never come here to order a cake again Update, Safeway made a totally adorable super delicious cake in 24 hours for under $10 and it was perfect. read more

Please note that I am drooling as I write this review. In Summary: These. Cakes. Are. The. Best. There's nothing more to it. The cakes and cupcakes at Sublime Cake Design are exceptionally delicious. I grew up in Redding and, boy, do I wish that Sublime Cake Design was around for my birthday parties! I don't know how Wiley does it, but Sublime Cake Design should be your go-to for either cakes or cupcakes. You can tell that every cake they bake is done so with love, and Wiley and his team are always so cheerful to welcome you and celebrate your event. Their cakes are made-to-order, but you must plan ahead as they (to no one's surprise) get booked fast. However, if you cannot place your order in time, their dessert cakes are perfect for any event. And, if you are overwhelmed by their options or designs, just talk to Wiley or someone on his team: they will help you make the right choice, and they have tons of books of past cakes they have baked and designed. For my father's 60th birthday, we purchased a Cloud 9, and added custom text to the top (thanks, Wiley!). The cake was ridiculously delicious and devoured by our guests within minutes. It was just the right amount of vanilla and chocolate and not too dense (as some fancier cakes tend to be). They also make delicious cupcakes, and I'd recommend buying one as you place your custom order :) The "Redding Velvet" melts in your mouth, and the "Pink Lady" is the perfect amount of sponge to it. He has won local awards for his designs and flavors, and has recently been featured on Food Network's newest all-night cake challenge "Duff Till Dawn"

"I started my artisic pilgrimage as a child, loving anything having to do with drawing, painting, graphic, or dramatic arts . . . But I never thought I would end up doing artwork on cakes. All it took was watching one episode of Ace Of Cakes on Food Network, and I was hooked. I began working for a family bakery, and learned everything about baking and caking on my own, and when I was able to throw my artistic vision into the batter, something magical happened. I recieved the opportunity of a lifetime when my wife Tiffanie and I were asked to assist the famed cake artist Roland Winbeckler and his wife Marsha in two episodes of Ultimate Cake Off on TLC. It was definitely the biggest cake I had ever worked on, and the most cake I had ever baked (5,000 servings). I love creating personalized cakes and edible artwork that speaks to the recipient. I do not live in Redding and we were giving my sister a surprise birthday party. The recommendation from our caterer for the cake was Sublime Cake Design. I chatted a bit on the phone with her likes and got a idea sketched within a couple of days. I have to say Wiley is an absolute artist with cakes! It was beautiful! I told him she liked to golf and travel and he came up with the idea of a world map with golf greens (tee flags, sandtraps and trees included - see photo in "photos" I couldn't add it to my review) and it was beautiful. OK. So besides beautiful, the cake tasted AWESOME! He doesn't overload on the fondant or frosting, but the cake was simply tasty and our guests absolutely loved it! I would recommend this bakery anytime. Pick up was easy, they were smiling, courteous and wonderful to work with. Thank you Sublime! read more

A great little local operation that puts out a superior product. The mother and daughter owners are very personable and efficient. Had one of their cupcakes and was really impressed. It didn't have abit of that bakery aftertaste that is so common in commercially made pastries. My only recommendation is that if you have one of their cupcakes, make sure you have a tall glass of cold milk handy. Those suckers are rich! read more
