I don't typically write reviews, but I have feedback for this one.
TLDR: if you have allergens or intolerances, be wary and question all the dish ingredients. Also this restaurant has now moved to a different location; NOTE new location does not have a sign with "SUBA" on it and it's WITHOUT the river views. Look for "The Lisbon Club 55" instead.
1- FOOD RATING: 3/5. Food would have been 5 stars, but they didn't respect my food intolerance.
When I made the reservation, I added a note (that they confirmed on the phone and before our meal) that I'm intolerant to soy. I can't eat soy without a minimum getting extremely bloated and at worst vomiting.
We chose the full experience menu and were impressed until they served me a tofu dish lol. I got confused and asked them to confirm if this had soy. Our host told us they ensured there's no soy sauce throughout my meals. I told them in my understanding that tofu is made of soybean, which I'm intolerant to, and he proceeded to check with the chef on the presence of soy in the tofu.
We moved on and waited for the chef's response. We didn't get feedback throughout the remaining dishes, so I asked the host again after our meal. He came back explaining that the chef prepares the tofu in a special process without using soy sauce. I explained again that my understanding is that tofu is made of soybean.
It made me question the rest of the meal and the presence of soybean in any other dishes.
For the most expensive restaurant in Lisbon, I am confused and offended that 1- what was unclear about the intolerance to soy and to avoid soy ingredients? They ensured no soy sauce was ensured but why not tofu? They are aware that soy is an allergen per their menu.
Or 2- did the kitchen simply not care? They claimed to ensure that I had no beef (my other dietary restriction) which I appreciated, but after seeing tofu served to a guest who cannot eat soy, I don't fully trust what I ate.
2- SERVICE: 4/5. Sommelier was excellent 5/5. Host was excellent except I am still confused and offended by the way he handled the soy situation.
3- ATMOSPHERE: 4/5. Struggled to find the location. Used the website's address, the confirmation email "directions", google maps, Apple Maps, asked 2 locals. Walk through the alleyway and instead look for a sign that says "The Lisbon Club 55". Also we booked it expecting river views, but was surprised to learn during seating that they've moved location and rebranded so the reviews with photos here are no longer relevant.
Overall, for the price I expected to have a flawless experience and would have rated it a 5/5 if it were not for the soy situation. Hope they sort that out moving forward. read more
