Pork

This place might look like a small place in a random shopping center but they are putting out some good food. I stopped in while with one of my employees in the area. I had the roasted pork with boniato, white rice and garbanzos. First the serving size is huge, enough for 2 people. But wow was that some tasty pork. You can tell it was marinated well as the flavor is throughout the meat. My employee had the boliche which was soft and flavorful. I decided to take some home to my husband and the woman behind the counter offered me a piece of the smoked pork. My mouth waters thinking about it right now. Great Smokey flavor, tender meat, I can't believe I almost left without having it. I took my husband home the smoked pork and he loved it- he is picky so this rare. I also brought arroz con leche and flan which were both really good. Can't wait to go back!

Found this place when I was putting gas in my car by the Wawa around the corner & when I tell you that this restaurant is an absolute gem... located in a small plaza in the corner of the building by the stairs, I walked in here curious of what they were offering. Great thing is that all their food is fresh and ready to serve, they put it on a to-go plate so you can leave right away or eat-in. Honestly, I couldn't decide on what to get because everything looked so delicious, so I decided to go with white rice, shredded beef and fried plantains. I had to sit down and tear it up because I was hungry... so why not. All I'm going to say is that I had to order a second plate to-go for later today & decided to try something else out. If you are by the area or if it's close to you, this is a must go-to restaurant if you want to be full and satisfy all your hunger needs. This is a hidden gem for sure and those who have had it know what I'm talking about! This place smacks!!!

Suarez BBQ is what I would call an undercover restaurant with a great HVAC system. When you walk in to the storefront off Okeechobee Road, it looks like a plain Cuban cafeteria with a couple of precooked meats and sides. You don't see or smell any smoker, and you order your "completa". Once you get to your table though, in front of you is a tasty piece of smoked BBQ chicken. So yes, it's an undercover BBQ spot. Looking for some BBQ dinner after a Sunday at the office, I came across Suarez BBQ on my Yelp search..I was expecting one of the traditional Okeechobee Road ranches and was pleasantly surprised to find an air conditioned, intimate spot with Old Havana street scene paintings on the wall and a TV showing some soccer game. I opted for the BBQ chicken, moros and sweet plantains. It seems they have the meats precooked, and they re-smoke it after you pick, leaving the tasty smoke (which is complemented by their smokey bbq sauce. The moros were just greasy (I dont like dry rice) and the sweet plantains generous. The staff was pleasant, and let me know their claim of their smoked beef special. I'll give this a try next time.

They have such cute drinks! I just got pineapple juice but my friends got their coconut drink and mojito and said it was to die for! They give you these plantain chips to snack on and they are so good! It's got a sweet, salty, and crunchy chip texture to it. For an appetizer, we got a sampler which had ropa vieja, plantains, empanadas, shredded pork, and some large fried potatoes. I loved that so you get to try a little bit of everything. The ropa vieja tasted just like grandmas. They use ropa vieja as the filling in the empanadas. The fried potato's was steak fry cut style. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Just how a perfect fry should taste! Everyone really liked the vaca frita! I think that's a must try! It's shredded beef marinated in this delicious citrus marinate. They fry it afterwards so it's pull apart, melt in your mount soft, with a nice crispy crunch to it. I think this is a must get dish. The desserts were delicious too! The flan was perfectly soft and creamy. The tres leches was delicious as well. This is a great place to have some good Cuban and enjoy a beautiful night out in Miami!

I'm giving 3 stars for the service. Our server was nice, but there were a few things I wasn't too happy about. We were offered still or sparking water, so I said "still". I should've asked for tap water but it didn't cross my mind. The water was $12 which was a surprise since it was almost the price of the food! When I paid by card, the server with the credit card machine was on the phone speaking with the manager in Spanish. The screen of the credit card machine was faced away the whole time so we wouldn't have been able to see the total. It was a bit shocking being charged almost $37 for one dish that cost $17! The service charge is ~20% and already included in the bill. Even though the food was good, I felt a bit icky from this experience so I won't come again when I'm in Miami Beach. If it was only one of the above I would've been able to brush it off easier, but the combination of being charged for expensive water + not being shown the total before being charged + server being on the phone + 20% service charge before tip was quite a lot. I sat outside and it was really nice being right on the sidewalk and people watching! Cute restaurant and great location right in the heart of Miami Beach.

Our favorite time to visit is Sunday brunch, especially since they have a special menu. We recently came for Father's Day, and even though Julio was celebrating as a father himself, he was working incredibly hard to make sure every guest had a great experience. You can really see how much heart and dedication he pours into his business. As expected on Father's Day, there was a bit of a wait, especially since we were a larger party, but none of us minded. To thank us for our patience, Julio generously brought out croquetas for the table on the house, which was such a thoughtful gesture. I can't recommend Trigo Café enough. The food is consistently excellent, the service is warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere feels like home. While brunch is our favorite, their lunch and dinner are just as great, and the new tapas and wine area they recently added is a fantastic addition. If you haven't been, you're missing out!

Great music and friendly staff. What we ordered- Croquetas 10/10 - Soft creamy inside and lightly crispy on the outside. Drizzled with a aioli style sauce. (In my opinion)the croquetas were so good they didn't need any sauce. Churassco w/ white rice, black beans and plantains 10/10 ohh this is everything a churassco should be. Juicy, tender and cooked full of so much flavor. The rice was perfect not sticky just perfectly fluffy and not oily and the beans are exactly what I always hope to be served at any Cuban restaurant. Absolutely delicious and full of so much flavor. I mean if they told me Abuela had made them I would totally believe it. Having had a quick workday lunch and walked around the mall, I had worked up an appetite. I was seated in a corner table for two and my order was taken. The restaurant did not seem that crowded even for a Friday night but it felt like a long wait. Unlike many Cuban places, they don't offer complimentary bread. I ordered their "platanos a tentacion" (bacon wrapped sweet plantains), grilled chicken and moros. The rice was a little hard and the chicken breast on the small side and barely seasoned other than the onions garnishing it. Service didn't feel very attentive for me as a solo diner. Between finishing my dinner and waiting to order either dessert or cafecito, I also sat and waited until a waitress finally came by. At that point, I just got the coffee and my check. I don't believe I was offered a printed receipt, just the card terminal. I asked if the tip was included and pretty much in time when I was putting the usual tip (trying to be generous with 20 percent) I was told that it was a service charge, and that the tip was extra, but had full amounts starting with 18%. So basically I paid 30% tip for a small portion of food and inattentive service. Looking back, I see that this restaurant had a different name and I had enjoyed dinner at their other location six years back. It's disappointing to see how it has fallen off. As it were, a lot of the original creative items on the menu are no longer being offered.

When I first walked in, I was greeted by one of the servers. She spoke to me in Spanish and based on my response to her question, quickly switched to English. She sat me at a two-top. At first glance of the restaurant, it was decent size. They were doing construction around the entrance where the bar was, so it kind of took away from the appeal. While I've never commented on this before, I noticed my water and wine glass were so streaky. They weren't see through like usual but def. could have been cleaned/rinsed more. After being sat, I was given water and some focaccia crackers. While I loved the idea, the crackers were impossible to "dip" and made the oil pointless. For drinks, I went with the passionfruit margarita. They had a few cocktails to choose from, but this has been my go-to as of late. It was pretty good but nothing to write home about. As a starter, I went with the Cuban Caesar and for my main, I chose the pesto pasta and added chicken. The Cuban Caesar was easily one of the best I've had! I loved that it came in a Parmesan bowl and the yuca croutons were different but good! The croutons were a weird contrast because the salad was so cold and then you have these hot pillowy croutons with a weird texture. Regardless, I give the salad a 10/10. The pesto pasta was great; super rich but unfortunately, not much else. The chicken didn't have any seasoning and I almost wish I hadn't paid an additional $6 for it. The service was great and although they weren't that busy, I still believe it would have have still been good. Overall, I had a great time here and I may come back next time I'm in town.
