I have been craving mofongo for a while, and heard that this establishment. The ambiance was nice and the service seemed good and friendly. I ordered my food and a shake to go. They packed it up, and I was on my way. When I returned to my office, they had put in the wrong order. They gave me fried pork chicks with rice, instead of the Mofongo. I called and they apologized and stated that they were sending the order over immediately. The order never showed up. I waited over 2 hours, and my office is only 20 to 25 minutes away. I called back, and they have no record of anyone coming or of the initial conversation. This is absolutely ridiculous and I had asked about the order, while I was there. First, I want to give a big shoutout to Junior for the fantastic customer service! I ordered the mofongo with chicken and the Creole sauce, and let me tell you, the mofongo was delightful! The flavors with the Creole sauce were really on point. Unfortunately, I didn't continue eating the rest of the mofongo after discovering it had pork in it. Totally my oversight since I don't eat pork--I should have double-checked! I had some leftover rice from another meal, so I paired it with the chicken and Creole sauce, and it was delicious! Their menu has so many choices, and I wanted to try several dishes all at once. Since that was unrealistic, I chose the one thing I couldn't find on the menu and is a favorite of mine, pollo guisado. It was so tender, so good that I asked the server to wrap my to go box up with Saran Wrap so that I can take it back to NJ as I was flying out in a few hours. Muy Delicioso!! I just touched down in Miami and my friends took me to El Riconcito De Santa Barbara. I've had Puerto Rican food before but this was my first time going to an actual restaurant that's authentic. When we first walked in, we were greeted by it seems like almost all the hostesses. It was great because they had a live singer and it added to the experience. To start, we ordered the red sangria, which was oh so good. We also got the ropa vieja for the table, and that was quite possibly the most tender beef I've ever had. It paired really well the plantains. Since this was my first real meal of the day and I knew I had a lot of salsa dancing to do later, I went with a lighter dish and got a grilled chicken breast with maduros and arroz con gandules. I had been looking forward to this because I love arroz con gandules almost as much as pesto, and when cooked correctly, can be a real treat. The chicken was well-seasoned and oozing with flavor; the maduros was just maduros but still spectacular. My friends split the trifongo and wow, talk about a game changer. The presentation alone was gram worthy and the flavors all melted in your mouth. I never knew you could make such a dish out of plantains, but I stand corrected. The garlic was an added bonus! Last but not least, we have the 4 leches. Even though we were all stuffed and I was about ready to unbutton my pants, we pushed through. Surprisingly, it was just enough to split between three people and we all got equal amounts. It reminded me more of like an oatmeal cake but omg, was it good. All in all, this place was a hit. This place set the bar high, esp after it was my first stop since leaving the airport. Don't worry if it seems crowded because their service is fast AND accurate. Both pluses in my book. this place is great. I have been eating here for years and decided to come back after an event in South Miami on my way back to the north. The food is a combination husband and wife of Cuban and Puerto Rican descent. They specialize in Mofongo which is absolutely the thing to get here. I ordered the Ropa Vieja and Mofongo which were out of this world good. My partner ordered vaca Frita and Tostones which were absolutely delicious she ate the whole thing which is rare. It was very busy on a Sunday afternoon it looks like this is a big spot after church for people to come and it was loud live music and pretty much only Spanish spoken here. The menu is in English and they do have daily specials. This is one of those slightly out-of-the-way places that you should absolutely make an effort to see as the food here is authentic and made from scratch. It's easy to tell Tostones that are made from scratch versus frozen and these were absolutely made from scratch. The garlic sauce was also homemade and very good. I have driven and walked by this Hialeah staple and totally ignored it every single time until today. Every once in a while when I'm craving Cuban pizza I go to Polo Norte literally next door but never really looked this way. Today my pops and I decided to give it a try and even though we had every intention of trying the mofongo which is really a puertorican dish and something this joint is known for, last minute we opted for a sort of parrillada with a few sides. This grill consisted of churrasco, pork chop, chicken and sausage and it didn't disappoint at all. All the meats were juicy and cooked medium as requested. My pops got congrís and I got me some arroz con gandules and an order of fried green plantains aka tostones. The food was mouthwatering and the service was excellent so we are now fans of this joint. My father loves puertorican pasteles or plantain tamales ever since he tried them 4 months ago so we ordered 2 of those to go and he was a happy camper. This was an interesting place for me. At first you think it is like most Latin restaurants, and it is very "Latin" but it has this upbeat vibes uncommon for fairly priced locations in Miami. Maybe it is the violinist playing todays hits through his instrument that gives this place a fancier feel, yet the environment and aesthetic is relaxed. They were playing some live music (violin with the some background music) this Sunday. We ordered the standard sandwiches (pan con bistec and sandwich de pollo) and they were delicious.
