I love Chicos we have been going there since we were kids. However, we were there last night for dinner and ordered vaca frita and rabo encedido. I got ropa vieja instead with cold rice. They offered to fix it but I just didnt want to bother. The rabo had no taste at all we ordered it with rice, yuka and tostones. They forgot the rice so we had to remind them, the tostones were soggy and the yuka was cold. I had to ask for water refills because he just forgot we existed. Overall we were very disappointed we went in expecting great food and service like always and what we got was extremely loud music (Saturday night party time) cold food with no taste and mediocre service. It will be a while before we return if we ever do. They should have stuck to the old way of doing things instead of trying to make it a night club on Saturday nights. read more

I've been coming to Chico's for years now. It has a special place in our family's heart. With that being said, my intent is to review this restaurant fairly. This 24 hour restaurant is located in a shopping center which provides ample parking. Seating is also quite extensive. They can easily accommodate many large parties at once. They also have sit down counter service along with ventanita service. Staff is attentive and friendly. Not sure how well non spanish speaker would fair but I feel they would do their best. Now on to their food. They have a large selection of your typical Cuban dishes. For me, the go to appetizers are the Yuca Frita, the Croquettas and the Frituras de Malanga. They each come with their own garlic dipping sauce. For entrees, I suggest the Vaca Frita or Ropa Vieja. They are both basically the same shredded beef except Vaca Frita is just onions no sauce and the Ropa Vieja is stewed in a tomato sauce. So it depends how saucy or not you feel that day. Both come with two sides. For dessert they have many to choose from but we usually stick with either the Flan or Churros with Hot Chocolate. Both are delicious but on a "chilly" (anything under 67 degrees) Miami day, Churros and Hot Chocolate are a Cuban tradition. And of course you never leave a Cuban restaurant without having coffee. So I recommend a Cortadito with evaporated milk. Choosing evaporated milk usually makes the coffee creamier and more delicious. Overall the food is normally on point. It can be on the heavy and greasy side and no they won't ask if you want non dairy options or sugar alternatives and you will smell like the restaurant for hours after. But you will feel full and satisfied upon leaving. read more

This was my first time in and it was highly recommended by my hair stylist who grew up in the area. It has probably had a facelift in recent years, but it still gave a casual, authentic feel with nothing overpowering or overcompensating like Miami tourism provides. Everything on the menu was described simply and that is what I ordered. The food was great along with the Cubano and cafe con leche. I was shaking after so much caffeine but it was delicious. Just be aware that no one in the restaurant or clientele really speak a lot of English so I had to use some Spanish that I remembered to order. One of Hialeah's classic Cuban restaurants, the outside even has a ventanita where you can enjoy your cafecito and talk (Republican) politics. Yes, the owners definitely support President Trump. You have your typical formica counter seating with swivel banquettes, a bunch of tables and the bathrooms with neon lighting. It used to be open 24 hours, but now they close at midnight during the week. They still keep the 24 hour shift on weekends though. I came in this past Saturday after a full day in the churrasco field (work) and intending to check out another restaurant in the same plaza. The cuban bread was decently crispy, but could have used a little more butter. My pollo milanesa could have used a little more sauce (the sauce was perfect in taste, with the slight sweetness that defines a good milanesa). I'm not sure what their definition of light cheese (poquito queso) is but I think I got the full deal despite asking otherwise. The platanitos were also perfect in taste and the rice adequate. It's definitely your basic Cuban restaurant; it's not frou frou and decent if you're in the area. read more

The staff is always friendly. They are open 24 hours a day, and the food is plated beautifully. The best things to order at Chicos are the ropa Vieja con Morros and plantanos dulce. I also recommend ordering ordering the skirt steak with red beans and rice and sweet plantains. The ambiance of the restaurant is beautiful as well. The ambiance takes you back to Havana in the 1950's. I think Chicos is a jewel of a restaurant hidden in Miami. Don't overlook this great Cuban restaurant. Great food awaits you. read more

This review is written for everyone else: Chico's Restaurant is a 40-year fixture in Hialeah offering food and drink around the clock to locals, drivers and night workers, and to the occasional wayward Miami tourist. North of the airport, Chico's is off the beaten path - no South Beach hotties here - but if you're looking for Cuban people serving comfort food to their community, you're looking for Chico's. My Beloved and I landed in Miami late on a Saturday night, and after checking in at our hotel, Ubered up to Chico's. We arrived near midnight, sat down and ordered. Our waitress was Magale, a kindly woman whose English was as poor as is my Spanish. Magale and I spoke Spanglish and pointed a lot at the menu, the kitchen and each other. Between us, we got the job done. [Note: A few days in South Florida gave me the chance to stumble through Spanish, Haitian Creole and Jamaican English, mostly with servers and cabbies. Before you get all exercised about those "furriners", be aware that a quarter of Greater Miami's immigrants are from Canada and Europe. "Confusion of tongues", indeed.] While we waited for our food, I noticed that our fellow diners included a couple sharing dessert; four friends talking politics; three men, apparently cabbies, drinking coffee and waiting for something to happen; and a family of seven, enjoying a large meal as they celebrated Abuelita's birthday. Having grown up in Miami, this place is a staple after long night of partying, this was one of the only few full service restaurants that you could find a decent warm meal at 3-4am. My buddy lived down the street so we were here regularly. It never disappointed.
