I've been coming to this salon on and off for years -- not for the owner, but for the few stylists who actually know what they're doing when it comes to blondes. I made the mistake of trusting the so-called "master colorist" after not touching my hair for an entire year. Huge regret. For $280, I expected professional results -- not brassy, uneven, yellow-toned hair that clearly shows in every filtered photo posted. Filters won't hide the lack of skill. If you're a stylist and a client sits in your chair asking for a service outside your level -- just say so. There's no shame in turning down work that's not in your wheelhouse. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. My advice? If you're blonde and care about your hair, go elsewhere.

As a teenager (14-19 years old) I would come here and have the owner Denise do my hair (that was 11/12 years ago). Well I must say she still have those magic hands lol. Her clients vary in age and race. When wearing my natural style she gives me a twist set that last for two weeks if I follow her directions of care. She has also given me weaves. Because the texture is thick yet is very soft, when I go to hair salons, I get the previously described service to avoid chemical damage. When I went to the appointment, Grace washed and conditioned my hair but before she used the handheld blow dryer, she applied a chemical solution. I asked her what it was and she didn't tell me. Not wanting to cause a commotion, I just dropped it but I could tell something was not right. The chemical didn't burn but it left my hair extremely limp to the point that even after several washes, the hair hasn't returned back to its natural curl pattern/kinkiness. My hair doesn't hold a curl any more, the way it used to, prior to visiting her and it is still recovering from the damage done, as of four months later. The main thing that upsets me is that she wouldn't tell me what products she was using during the washing and conditioning process and I am certain that it was never always the same thing. A friend of mine had the same experience but again we didn't want to cause a commotion, so we have not returned.

She's been braiding for decades, so she knows what she is doing. I came in for Senegalese twists, I have neck length natural hair, it cost me $125, with the hair included. It took her about 3.5 or 4 hours to do the twists, with a few short breaks in between, which I appreciate because I hate sitting forever. I got a ton of compliments on my hair, the twists look shiny and she did a decent job trimming the ends and making the twists looks smooth. There's another woman there who assists her, who toward the end came and helped finish. I appreciate that for the most part, she doesn't braid too tightly, however the caveat to that is that some of my twists at the nape of my neck and my "baby hair" area slipped out within a week. I had been pulling it up into different styles, which could have contributed but it's kind of embarrassing when your hair is on the floor. I think it just doesn't make sense to put twists on my baby hair in the front of my head, it just damages the edges, and slips out. But other than that, I just appreciate that I wasn't in pain the entire time. She had a Christian TV station or video playing the entire time, which I totally don't mind, and in fact, I appreciated. But toward the end it got annoying because the show shifted to some, racist, 45 supporter dialogue. Overall, I would definitely go back.

Seriously lacking professionalism!…read more I'm a not-so recent transplant to the NJ area, and anyone whose had a similar experience of moving to a new area and wanting to get their hair braided knows it's not the easiest feat! A lot of hair braiding places are stuck in the Stone Age of business sense, no website - with pictures or prices, limited customer service, and the worst offense: no appointments! I was recommended Mame & Henriette by a coworker, who didn't go there herself, but had a friend who had gone here. I gave them a call and asked about getting my hair braided the next day. I was told, "That's fine, we're open.", to which I asked, "Okay, perfect - is there a particular time I should come in?", and the response was, "We open at 8." That should've been my red flag. I asked whether I should come in at 8 then, which was another 'yes'. I showed up that Saturday around 8:22, I figured I'd give them some time to get settled in if they open at 8. That was my second mistake, first being not getting a concrete appointment time. There were three girls already getting their hair braided in singles/box braids, a fourth that had just been finished, and two other girls seated around the tiny salon still waiting to be taken as well. Did we all get told to come in at 8am?! Nonetheless, I sat down and decided to wait, my third and final mistake. I should've asked how long it would be before I got my hair done, since they kept getting phone calls and telling those customers to come in at '1pm' and then '4pm', but they also should've had the professionalism to tell me how long it might be, in case I didn't want to wait. I came in around 8:22am, and left without a word at 11:11am. This was after another customer continued to try to find out when their fourth stylist was supposed to show up, to which vague answers were given, i.e., "She's coming, she's coming..". And after they took a lunch break in the salon, making me seriously regret also not having eaten before I came...also, no one washed their hands after? I went down the street, to Sy Khadi and was in and out around 30mins or so, see my phone message w/ my partner for those time stamps. And this isn't a promo for Sy Khadi either, I have issues with my finished results from there as well - the search continues!

Glenny, the owner, dyed my hair exactly how I wanted it. Although my hair was bleached, it is still…read moresoft and shiny; the color a vibrant hot pink. She also dyed and cut my mother's hair (albeit black, not pink). Glenny was one of few hair stylists kind enough to accommodate my mother's allergies by being willing to use a box dye that my mother brought from home. Overall, I am very happy with the services provided here and would highly recommend.
