Not only did he quickly draw up designs to meet our needs, he weighed in respectfully on aesthetic aspects that we needed guidance with. I must point out that Trevor's designs made super-efficient use of our spaces - even some that other competing designs said would be wasted. After we signed the contract with him, Trevor's team came in and did an AMAZING job realizing the designs. The craftsmanship was top notch and the men were professional, punctual and super hardworking. The finished products were a breathtaking improvement to our home. We got rid of several old pieces of furniture that were made redundant by the buildouts. My husband and I then spent two years working from home together in our front room (we call it the study now) without any rhyme or reason, just putting our desks wherever they fit, because it all happened so quickly. It was awkward and ugly, cords and monitors everywhere, and not a great look for people walking in our front door. The whole time, I was thinking, "when this is done and at least one of us goes back to the office, I want to make this room into a nice space to read and relax, and also to WFH when I have to." That's where Kanika comes in. I tried changing the place up on my own, but every choice I made seemed to make my space uglier and more awkward. It was time to hire a professional. That decision was worth every penny. In the end, my project turned out to be slightly bigger than just one room. I enlisted Kanika's help in choosing flooring, baseboards and paint for the whole house, furniture for my entire downstairs (we were still using the old living room furniture left by the previous owners), and light fixtures throughout. She was easy to work with and understood immediately what I was going for. My study is a real showstopper now - the walls are this deep blue color that looks amazing, she designed a gorgeous custom bookshelf that makes perfect use of the space, and she picked a couch that is the perfect size, just the right color, and so comfortable. And we still managed to get a desk in there for those WFH days. Literally just the other day, I was on a Zoom with someone and thought "this room behind me is so pretty, it looks like a fake background." But it's real, and in my house! And it wouldn't have happened without Kanika. The paint color she helped me pick for my bedroom is something I never would have chosen on my own, but I still regularly think about how nice it looks whenever I go in there. Same with the color of the living room couch, I'd never have found it on my own, but now that I have it, I love it. She knows her stuff. Kanika's husband Adi runs the business side of things. He managed the project, hiring contractors and keeping everything on schedule. The work was done on time, and he kept us in the loop, patiently answering any concerns or questions. And, no shenanigans with the final cost. Really, hiring Kanika Design was a great decision for us.

During the initial staging, our apartment window was damaged, along with the surrounding wall,…read moreleaving broken glass scattered throughout the room. Importantly, window-related work was not authorized or included in our agreed Scope of Work (SOW). We did not hire this company to install window decorations or drapes. At the time, the company's employees were the only ones at the residence, having been let in by our real estate agent and trusted leave afterwards by themselves. Despite these circumstances, the company has blamed us rather than taking responsibility. We hired an independent third-party contractor to assess the damage. Their assessment indicated that the window had been mishandled and closed with force, breaking the latches and contributing to the damage to the window and surrounding wall. Despite this assessment, the company has neither provided its insurance information nor made meaningful efforts to resolve the matter. Instead, they appear to rely on a "Hold Harmless" clause as a blanket exemption from responsibility, even when negligence may be involved. When I asked whether they would accept responsibility if their employees damaged a wall through careless furniture handling, their response was that they would not be responsible regardless. We want their insurance company to review the circumstances and make an independent determination, but nearly a month later, the company continues to delay providing the necessary information. Our HOA also has strict insurance requirements for vendors moving furniture through common areas. The staging itself was disappointing. However, given the damage incident and the company's response, we no longer felt comfortable requesting modifications and felt stuck with a layout we were unhappy with. I also have concerns about the company's transparency. I initially chose them based on a referral and their Yelp representation as a "Women-owned & operated" business. However, our contract listed Willem Huang as CEO, despite Willem not appearing on the company's website as part of the team. The latest California Secretary of State filing I reviewed identifies Yuyan Wang as CEO. I cannot determine the explanation for these discrepancies, but they raised questions about the company's public representations. Overall, this experience has been unacceptable: property damage outside the agreed scope of work, an independent assessment indicating mishandling, repeated delays in providing insurance information, and no meaningful effort toward resolution. I regret choosing this company and would not recommend them, especially for the value of what we paid for. Proceed with caution. Verify insurance coverage, document your property's condition, clarify the scope of work, and review liability provisions before signing. We expected professionalism, transparency, and accountability, but unfortunately received none of these when it mattered most.
