My husband and I were married in August 2024 and had a wedding celebration on New Year's Eve. We had Max as our DJ at our wedding and could not have been happier with our experience! He was super friendly and flexible, and ended up staying an extra half hour because we were having so much fun. We had such a great experience with Style Matters and DJ Duke! We highly recommend them! Spencer was very responsive with emails, super helpful with any questions we had, and went above and beyond to help us acquire equipment for the after party DJs (which was not something they had to help with). Our DJ for our wedding was through Style Matters and we had Ryan DJ our wedding. Ryan was great in all aspects from start to finish! He offered to hold a call with us to help get a better understanding of what music we were. While we were a bit nervous since we didn't get to talk to Ryan until 2 weeks prior to the event, everything was still smooth! We've been to quite a few weddings where the DJ wasn't playing great music and the dance floor was dead. We didn't want this to happen and we were concerned our DJ wouldn't play our music. We got matched up with Chris (DJ MassTransit) and he was WONDERFUL. We had a small intimate wedding, and he had everyone dancing through the very end of the night! Before the wedding, we did not have the time to think much about our wedding music. And, we weren't sure about the 'right type' of music to play, as our guests ranged a large age range and cultures. Chris really listened to our (very general) ideas, gave wonderful recommendations that inspired our final choices for the bridal processional and first dance. Then, he really just took everything from there! From the ceremony to the reception, he received multiple compliments from our guests throughout the day. The best part was that guests kept asking us if we had made the playlist (we didn't, just a few song requests)! Chris was also very responsive each time we sent an email, even embedding two late song requests the night before the wedding. He took care of everything end-to-end, as he had his entire sound system and worked with the venue to make sure all mics for the ceremony and speeches were well positioned. Style Matters is a wonderful group of DJs. We had Duke deejay our wedding and he is the absolute man! He absolutely killed it on our wedding day, but that started weeks prior when he first met us. He started by getting a sense of who we are and our vibe. Using that, his intuition, and our questionnaire, he presented an initial proposal that was spot on. He worked with our wide ranging song requests to cultivate a seamless dance floor experience; he also read the crowd really well and adjusted accordingly. From an emcee perspective, his timing was impeccable; he took our incorporation of certain movie themes and incorporated it masterfully throughout the evening. One word... WOW. Scotty absolutely blew us away, and more importantly, had both us and our guests on the dance floor EVERY SECOND from dinner until closing time. We had our wedding on 9/12/21, so we put together our questionnaire early summer so Spencer could match us with our DJ about a month or so before the wedding. After reviewing what we were looking for, Spencer recommended two different DJ's and we did some digging before deciding that Scotty looked like the guy for us! We got matched with Duke about a month before our wedding. He did a great job taking what we said and then running with it. After reading the reviews on Style Matters I figured this would be a great place to hire our DJ. Working with Spencer was fine in the beginning, but we weren't able to find out who he would pair us up with until right before the wedding, which was a slight concern of ours. We were able to watch a 5 hour showcase of all their DJs about a month before our wedding, but I was very concerned because I didn't feel that any would be the right fit. However, I decided that Margot was the best choice based on that showcase. I liked her music and she even played one of my favorite hip hop songs from the 90's. We met with Margot about 2-weeks before our wedding to review our completed questionnaire laying out all of our "must plays" "likes" and "do not plays". We discussed the vibe that we were going for, and the type of crowd that would be attending. My description specifically said that I want it to feel like a Miami club as we get deeper into the reception (going to 1:00 AM). Margot assured us that she had a clear understanding of the music that we wanted to hear. The music is such an important part for us and I wanted to make sure that our guests were jamming all night on the dance floor. I know what my family likes to hear to get them dancing, but we didn't quite get there. I feel that she struggled to get people on the dance floor early on. Looking back now, maybe we shouldn't have allowed requests. Maybe it's my fault for expecting a club DJ, when we hired a wedding DJ. Overall she did a good job and I appreciate that she played a lot of Prince (since I'm the biggest fan), but it really bummed me out to hear our guests telling me about ways the music could have been better. I wished that we would have been introduced to our DJ much earlier in the process so that we had more time to fine tune the playlist. I would have vetoed many of the songs that were played. (i.e. "Footloose", "Shut Up and Dance With Me", Maroon 5). Overall I wished the music selection would have been better into the night so that we got that Miami club vibe that I was hoping for. Style Matters went above and beyond our wedding entertainment expectations.... From the first interaction we had with this company, we fell in love. Spencer, the owner, set up a meeting with us to get to know who we are as a couple, go through important elements of the evening, and lots more. He was super helpful in giving suggestions and overall feedback from other weddings so that we were sure to be making our guests' night a blast. My approach to selecting wedding vendors was simple, I did my research and got all of the relevant information to the vendor for my wedding, and from there, I let them do their thing. I feel that these companies are so very talented and at the end of the day, they are in business for a reason! Especially those that have these incredible reviews... I genuinely felt that it would be silly to choose vendors that were known for being the best of the best if I was not planning to let them do what they do best in the end. Style Matters did just that - once we were matched with our AMAZING DJ, Dustin Harris, we got together and went through more of the details that had been planned for our wedding and from there Dustin took care of everything. I had never been in a wedding before and basically planned my entire event, so this was incredibly helpful. Dustin helped me chose my ceremony processional music and customized a version that was perfect for our wedding party to walk down the aisle to. He also customized a version of the song that I (the bride) walked down the aisle to and we could not have been happier with the results. This company made wedding planning easier, if that is even possible. Especially when things were down to the wire and I needed extremely fast turnaround times, they took care of everything. To make things even better, the day of the event obviously came with a few unexpected things that were not "on the menu" for our DJ but nonetheless he took care of everything and the bride never even knew there was a single hiccup. We hired Style Matters for our Dec. 20, 2013 wedding at the Newberry Library and were lucky to have Dustin Harris as our DJ. From beginning to end, it is clear Style Matters cares very much about a tasteful music experience and knows what they are doing to ensure you will have a seamless night from a logistics standpoint. Like many people who have posted here, our experience from beginning to end was nothing short of exceptional. Spencer responded to our inquiry almost immediately and invited us to his place to discuss our musical tastes, expectations and get a sense of what we were looking for. We were convinced immediately and hired SM on the spot. Spencer was responsive and helpful through the contract execution process and could not be nicer. As the wedding date drew closer Spencer suggested Dustin as our DJ, and we met with Dustin about a week before the wedding. Before we met, Dustin sent us a list of detailed questions, which made us (1) realize he knows what he is talking about and (2) appreciate his attention to detail. He met with us to go over our set lists and expectations and timeline, and was super enthusiastic and nice. Now to the day of--everything was perfect from start to finish. From the moment Dustin played our recessional song to the cocktail hour in the lobby to the wedding party announcements to dinner hour to the dancing, everything was perfect. Even small details like his perfectly stylish ensemble and awesome white shoes to having a list if the songs we have him readily available, fit the night perfectly. I can't count the number of times people complimented our music or said they hadn't danced in years but couldn't help themselves. We heard the songs we requested with awesome twists to them, and Dustin kept the party going all the way until the end. People did not want to stop dancing! -Updated Review- Now that the wedding has passed, guests have gone home, and I am relaxing on my honeymoon, as promised I owe Style Matters a updated review. Unfortunately, I am having troubles putting into words how outstanding Style Matters actually is. Spencer (our DJ and the owner) did an absolutely amazing job, the dance floor was never empty, he had everyone out there dancing their tail off from 8:00 - 11:00 when the venue raised the lights and kicked us out. Every one of my guests complimented us on getting married AND how awesome the DJ was. Some of my guests even wanted pictures with Spencer! Not only did he play great music, but he did a great job at controlling the flow of events during the entire night and really had control of the crowd, which allowed me and my bride to do what we needed to do. We also hired Style Matters string trio to play at our ceremony as well, during the ceremony they did an outstanding job, especially considering the wedding actually started about 20minutes late due to the lovely Chicago traffic. Even with this delay, they played on and kept the crowd entertained. Not only are they great at their craft, they are all very professional and really likeable guys. If you are looking for a string trio for your wedding, or probably any other type of event, these are your go-to guys. I could babble on here for hours as to how great Style Matters was, but if I had to pick one word to sum it up, it would be "WOW!" Ryan was our DJ for our August wedding and did a wonderful job with a large (175 guests) wedding in a room with tricky acoustics. He kept people on the dance floor all night and was professional and straightforward in his emceeing - no cheesy gimmicks here! He was really responsive and aside from one video meeting to talk through our music questionnaire, didn't need much else from us. While the Style Matters team is filled with professional, non-cheesy and great DJs, I think it's worth mentioning that communication was a little uneven with Spencer and that the process of pairing you up with a DJ after you fill in a detailed questionnaire, closer to your event date, was a little nervewracking for us. Ryan was assigned a few weeks ahead of the wedding so it felt like we had a big to-do even as other items had wrapped up. However, if you're willing to be patient and a little persistent on that, their detailed questionnaire really guides you through thinking about your event and music and Spencer is able to pair you with someone who will do a great job! read more

There is a reason Style Matters is known as the best in the business...everyone is so professional, helpful, and most importantly amazing at their job. We first saw Ryan at a friend's wedding and knew right then and there we NEEDED him to deejay our wedding. We were going back and forth between a band/deejay - but once we saw Ryan in action, there was no second guessing that he was the man we needed. Having a packed dance floor was a huge priority for our wedding! And DJ Andrew Pascale DELIVERED!!! First of all, he is just incredibly talented. We didn't provide him a list of songs to play during the early part of the dancing because we trusted his expertise to find music suitable for a crowd ages 16 - 80, and he did a great job mixing in old music with the new. The dance floor was full the entire night and several people came up to us and said how amazing the DJ set list was (even the dinner music!!). Our photographer said it was one of the best dance floors he's ever seen! Not only is he talented but he is extremely organized, professional and down to earth/easy to work with. Immediately after meeting Spencer I knew that we had found exactly what we were looking for. He knows what he's doing and wants to make sure that he gets your night done perfectly. This was a huge decision for my husband Drew as he is a music aficionado and DJ himself and we absolutely made the best choice. Spencer makes sure to meet with you several times to make sure that he can match up your personalities with his talented arsenal of DJs. For us, Spencer was a perfect fit. From the sound/music for outdoor ceremony to the music for the reception, he was nothing short of incredible. My husband and I stayed on the dance floor the ENTIRE night and we weren't alone. Our dance floor became our receiving line, everyone from our wedding met us out there. From the first song until the very last, our wedding was a complete jam. We received SO MANY compliments on the music and we couldn't thank Spencer enough. Style Matters is the best!! We used them for our outdoor wedding at Heritage Prairie Farm and could not have been more pleased with everything during the process: the communication was excellent, from initial contact to day before the wedding, everyone was extremely professional, and most importantly, the music and resulting dance party were AMAZING. I spent not a moment of the planning/pre-wedding phase stressing about the music because of how great these guys are. Below is the email we sent our DJ, Max, the day after our wedding, which pretty much sums up just how awesome Style Matters is!: Hi Max, Just wanted to give you one more thank you for Sunday now that it's the light of day. We had an amazing, amazing time at the wedding and that was largely in part to the dance party that you kept going the entire night. All the talk at brunch on Monday morning from our family and friends centered on how great the music was and how much fun everyone had dancing...in fact, it sounds like many people (us included) minimized their hangovers due to having limited time to refill drinks due to not wanting to leave the dance floor!! Spencer and his entire team are incredible. It was important for us to have a live music aspect to our day and Style Matters delivered. Sting Theory played during our ceremony and they were incredible. They were flexible with learning a song when we decided on a last minute change and their music is beautiful. Donovan played during our cocktail hour and created the exact vibe that we were going for. Max, who DJ'ed our reception, was wonderful to work with. He is knowledgeable and knew exactly what type of music to play to get the crowd going. Our dance floor was packed the entire evening just how we wanted it to be! Style Matters does not disappoint.
