The band members and vocalists are so talented and energetic in all genres of music making each song fun to dance to. My husband and I got married 4/12/25 at the Hilton. We were both very busy during the planning process, have been to a million weddings together, and are very passionate about our favorite musical artists and albums. I did my fair share of research on various live bands/musicians early on during our engagement, and when the time finally came to choose, I knew we HAD to work with DRS Music--what sold me initially was a combination of the transparency on their website, the consistent 5-star reviews I read across several sites, and the raw video footage of the talented musicians in action. I knew we made the right decision as soon as we got in touch with David. When I first submitted my inquiry for availability of the jazz trio for our wedding reception dinner, David responded probably within a day--the fastest of all the vendors I previously reached out to! When we were first looking for a band for our wedding, we knew immediately that we wanted David Rothstein. Ultimately, we decided to go with a different band (Connexion) because they cost half as much. When Connexion breached the contract and told us we should cancel just twelve days before the wedding, we turned to David and he helped us out. From the day we hired him to the day they played, David was nothing but professional, efficient, and helpful. He made everything we wanted happen, including learning our first dance song (I repeat) TWELVE DAYS before the wedding. They took time to get to know us as a couple and we had no fear going i to the wedding day. At my wedding, we got countless compliments on the band. Everyone said they had no idea wedding bands *could* be this good, including one of my very picky musician friends. Their choice of music was spot-on, even starting a conga line that got everyone including my 80-year-old great aunt up and dancing. And I hate conga lines! But I had to confess, that was one of the highlights of the evening in the end. David warned us when we didn't hire him the first time that we would come to regret it. I do think that the reasons why we came to regret it were unforeseeable and still totally unbelievable, and I also still think the cost is too much. But ultimately, when we were backed into a corner and felt like we were out of options, David surpassed even our very high expectations. Everyone is going to remember the dancing at our wedding-- even though the venue (the Field Museum) is not at all acoustic-friendly. I firmly believe that no Chicago band has a better sound. David Rothstein Music is simply amazing. From our very first conversation, we immediately noticed how detail-oriented, organized and professional David and his team were. David is a wonderful communicator- incredibly prompt and responsive, which was so appreciated during the wedding planning process. David would always answer our emails or texts within minutes/hours- never ignored a question, comment or message. He was always open to having a phone conversation with us, even if was about the simplest of things. As a couple communicating with multiple vendors, David was one of the best, if not the best vendor we had the pleasure of working with. My now husband and I never felt like we were just "another couple planning a wedding" when interacting with David. He made our wedding feel personal from the moment we started working together. We had a LOT of different ideas for how we could incorporate some family traditions and fun/unique ideas into our day and David was ALL about it. He thrives on making weddings feel very personal/customized and not "just another wedding." He worked with us to help make our vision of having a family member join the band and perform a few Elvis songs, played "walk up" songs for our maid of honor and best man as they were announced for their speeches, played the exact songs we requested as our guests entered the reception, and worked with us to make our vision of a "moonlight dance" with just us two (as our guests were exiting) a reality. One of the most impressive parts about David's service was something we didn't know about until the wedding was over- David actually worked very closely with my mom and dad to coordinate music and other details for my dad's father of the bride speech. My dad had a song written for us and planned out a little skit. David had multiple posters made with the lyrics and photos of our family on it, and coordinated all the details with my parents to ensure everything worked out perfectly for my dad's speech. It was perfect. In addition to all of the behind the scenes planning, the band itself was truly impeccable- so interactive with our wedding guests, incredibly talented and entertaining. We still get compliments about our wedding band months and months later. Lastly, David himself was very active throughout the reception. This is something very unique to DRM- David isn't on stage performing with the band, he is the emcee and facilitator throughout the night. Again, without knowing it in the moment, David took photos and videos of the band, and us/our guests dancing, and sent these to us the next day. We didn't have our photographer/videographer stay for much of the dancing part of the reception, so the photos and videos that David took are some of the only footage we have from those hours of the night, which we will cherish forever. All in all, choosing David and his team for our wedding was one of the best decisions we made when planning our wedding day. We first chose to contact David because of the stellar reviews on Yelp, The Knot, etc. When we contacted several bands to discuss our wedding night, David was by far the most responsive and organized we spoke with. After booking DRM for our wedding, David continued to be proactive and organized. He made sure that we got him all the information he needed (songs we wanted, first dance songs, etc.) well ahead of time. He was especially patient with any last minute changes we had to make. I love live music and knew I wanted a band versus DJ for my wedding. I was recommended DRM and am so happy with how the night went. David scheduled a phone call with me to go over the different options we had for our wedding. We went with a package that had a classical duo during our ceremony, jazz trio during cocktail hour, and a 10 piece orchestra during the reception with David as the emcee and a DJ too. During the planning process, David had a ton of availability to meet with us and answer any questions I had. His band was able to learn new songs for our wedding and he had tons of suggestions for how our night could run smoothly. The ceremony director, Alex, was able to take all my notes and help my ceremony vision come to life. The musicians learned a song on the piano, and they were able to have my step sister sing the processional. The timing was perfect and it played out exactly how I pictured. The reception dance floor was packed all night long! The band played old songs, new songs, etc. The perfect combo to get everyone up and dancing. They even surprised my husband and I who are both teachers with a chalkboard for guests to sign, what a great memory! Professional pictures and videos take what feels like forever to come in, but David had taken lots of behind the scenes videos and uploaded them to a YouTube page the next morning. The reception dance band was an especially huge hit. I don't want to toot my own horn or anything, but I haven't been to a wedding in a long time where as many people (of all ages) were out on the dance floor for the reception as were at ours. The band got rave reviews for the song choices and for keeping the party going. The only downside about the experience was that David is super busy and it was sometimes really tough to get in touch with him during the planning. I felt like a lot of the details were ironed out pretty last minute and I ended up inserting my day of coordinator into that relationship instead. One thing we thought was exceptional was the fact that David worked so closely with our wedding planner, and helped with some of the details for the day. That really made everything flow smoothly and the day was perfect! The string quartet had to make a couple of adjustments for our ceremony, as far as the actual location itself, but everything worked out well and they sounded great! There was a jazz trio playing during the cocktail hour which was a very nice touch! The 11 piece band we had for the reception was probably one of our favorite wedding bands we have ever heard! The musicians were so incredibly talented and the dance floor was packed all night long! We had them playing as our guests were coming in from the cocktail hour, and people really enjoyed that. My parents and brother had David Rothstein perform at my brother's recent reception at the Glen Club. David and his band were amazing! The jazz music was wonderful and lended a relaxing, jovial air helping to dissipate some of the tension and stress that sometimes arises during weddings :). He played during cocktail hour and dinner with a smaller jazz band. Wiith his jovial, kind personality he was a great emcee as well making seemingly mundane announcements (ie. please turn your placecards over to assist the servers) much more interesting! It was also such a sweet touch that he bought a plate for all the guests to sign so much brother and my new sister-in-law can sweetly remeber the event (a detail that we missed). My mum mentioned he was great to work with and when the full band arrived for the dance with its lively singers we truly enjoyed the music so much so that my parents that never danced at my wedding six years ago (I had a classical string quartet) were out on the dance floor. Even though I'm five months pregnant, I couldn't resist heading out either (even though I dread dancing!) or my husband with our four year old daughter! My uncle who had flown in just for the reception from India for a short 24 hour visit truly had a blast. So naturally, booking David Rothstein Music for our wedding (May 21, 2016) was the very first decision we made in our wedding planning process. That is how confident we were that they are the best band! We reached out to several other bands, but David added a personal touch that no other company had. He truly wants to get to know each couple, their story, interests, and music tastes. They really go above and beyond. David helped with coordinating the schedule for the reception, leaving no detail out. He walked us through the timing of every announcement, dance, toast, and music which really allowed us to get a feel for how night the would go. So far, I have had a very pleasant experience working with David via phone, and am looking forward to having this company provide our ceremony music (they are accommodating for my aunt and cousin to sing, and providing arrangements for our more modern song choices as well). We worked with David and his team to provide the ceremony music, along with cocktail hour and reception music, for our wedding in July 2022. From our very first interaction with David, we were impressed. It started with an immediate response at 8pm on a weeknight and progressed to multiple follow up emails and assurances from David himself. We never once had to follow up with David and, quite often, he was following up with us to ensure we were moving forward in putting together the perfect evening. The ceremony music was impeccable and garnered many a compliment from our guests. Cocktail hour was a hit with more modern songs, and then the reception was even better. With David as MC, the evening flowed seamlessly from introductions to speeches, and then onto the dancing. The musicians kept the dance floor full the entire evening, and even surprised us with two encores as a special treat. As most couples do, my now-wife and I had a hard time deciding whether to get a DJ or a band. We did our research and found the David Rothstein Band website, where we quickly realized that we had to meet David to see what they could provide. At our initial meeting, David was professional and clearly knowledgeable about what it takes to have a successful wedding reception. So when it came down to it, we had to decide whether to go with a DJ or spend the extra money and go with David's band...it wouldn't be any other band. In the end, we knew that the music made the party, so we decided to go with David Rothstein Music. From the moment we hired them, we knew we had made the right choice. David was thorough and professional with his planning, helpful in assisting us find other vendors, and responsive to all of the many questions we had asked over the months leading up to the wedding. David and his band came along with us to western Michigan to play at our vineyard wedding this summer. From the beginning of the wedding day, the entire team was professional and clearly knowledgeable. Sound guys, band, DJ...everyone worked to make sure everything was ready, down to the last detail. David even helped coordinate with our planner to make sure our wedding party knew when to do what. The ceremony trio did a great job playing the Beatles songs we had asked for, which made for an absolutely perfect ceremony atmosphere. And then came the reception...WOW! These guys totally rocked out. Our dance floor was packed throughout the night while David picked out the perfect songs to keep everyone going. The band even learned an edited version of a Zac Brown Band song that we danced to for our first dance. David emceed the event, coordinated our entrances, and made sure everything ran smoothly the entire night. I would highly recommend the "dancing between courses" option for the reception. This allowed for everyone to get on the dance floor early and often, with nice eating breaks in between to take a rest before the next round of dancing. Hiring David and his band was everything we hoped for and more. Throughout the entire process, he was helpful in ensuring every part of our wedding went smoothly. From the beginning of the ceremony until the last dance, the band played the perfect music for us and our guests. Just as we had thought on day one, the music made the party, and it was well worth the additional cost to have David and his band play at our wedding. We could not have been happier with the service that we received from David Rothstein Music. As anybody knows planning a wedding, music is a big part. We found out first hand that having the right music and entertainment can make the biggest difference for a wedding reception. Having David and his band at our wedding was easily one of the best decisions that we made. Our guests young and old constantly tell us how awesome our wedding was and how much they enjoyed the band and live music. We would highly recommend David Rothstein and his band. Most bride and grooms will tell you that their wedding was unforgettable; because of David and his group ALL of our guests will tell you that OUR wedding was unforgettable. The only non-five-star review on here mentioned communication as being an issue bc David was busy. If that was true it is no longer. In our experience communication was so on point that I've honestly used David as an example of what I'd like my staff to emulate from a customer service standpoint (in a total unrelated business and industry). If David Rothstein wrote a book on customer service, organization, and communication, I would buy it in a heartbeat--I would actually buy several copies for my staff. Kristin, my now wife, found David to be a HUGE source of comfort in the planning of our wedding. For us, the biggest stress was spending as much as we did on the music component of our reception -- it was the best decision we made easily. And what David told us from the beginning was true -- that we were buying into an experience and not just music. read more

My husband and I got married on October 16, 2009, in Geneva, Illinois, and we are sooo glad we hired David to help us on our special day. He was the ultimate professional, maintaining regular contact with us during the months and weeks before the wedding, and helping us plan the ceremony and reception afterwards. After meeting twice, much of our planning was via e-mail - it helped us all keep track of our night and modify plans as needed. David would call me sometimes too just to see how things were going : ) People loved the four-string quartet during the ceremony and the three-piece jazz band during dinner. The seven-piece band was also exceptional. When my husband and I finally watched a video of our wedding, it was great to see that our friends and family enjoyed the music so much and danced the night away. David and his band did a great job at our wedding--it seemed like all of our guests were on the dance floor all night...which was our #1 priority! David also did an excellent job of grabbing everyone's attention during important speeches, dances, etc. He was definitely in control of the crowd (in a good way). I felt that the flow of our reception was perfect! There were a few oversights that were disappointing though...the mother-son dance was wrong (eek!) and we had a handful of songs played on our do not play list. I would suggest bringing your own ipod for the band intermission to control which songs are played during the band breaks. Overall, I would recommed the David Rothstein Band. My favorite part of the entire wedding day was during 'Shout' when the band came out to the dance floor.:) SO FUN! read more

I am hesitant about this one. I would like to give him all the stars, but something very unprofessional happened at our wedding. The music was fantastic, it was fun, things were very special, but I didn't know that David, unbeknownst to us, had hired a photographer of his own. He did not, as he told our photographer, sign off with us on it. We did not know that our hired photographers would have to bump heads with him to politely ask first the photographer, and then David to move out of the way so our photographers could get the images we hired them to. On top of this the band photographer had a setting on which made everything flash whenever a photo was taken, which put off the light meter so precisely measured by our crew. We never knew about this at the time, and so we had a wonderfully, magical evening in our ignorance. Now, had we known that there was such a thing going on, I am sure my husband would have intervened in such a way that would have jeopardized our pleasure of the evening, putting us in a very awkward position, and possibly kicking out the band for overstepping. Instead, we found out afterwards, and some of the shots set up by our photographers got ruined. That is very unprofessional behavior, and I would warn anyone who works with David Rothstein to make sure that you talk to him about this fact. It is your evening, not an evening for the band (and certainly I don't blame the musicians who were wonderful, but the band leader who made these choices) to take publicity shots. I found it it isn't the first time he's done this and that some photographers have refused work when his band is around. So, take this into consideration, and make sure if you do hire them, that you won't let this happen to you. Again, loved the music, but wish this hadn't happened. read more

We had David and his band at our wedding in October at the Sofitel. We had the classical trio for the ceremony, the jazz trio for the cocktail hour and the 11 piece orchestra for dancing. The ceremony music was perfect - and the ceremony music director, Alex, was very helpful before the wedding. Our hora was amazing, and we had the dance floor packed the whole night even though it was a Sunday. Relatives I'd never seen dancing at previous family weddings were even up grooving. It was a great selection of music for all age groups - everyone from my grandpa to our friends really enjoyed it. We didn't get a wedding video - but said if we could go back and do it again we definitely want a video of that hora! read more
