Decent Lakeside Convenience Stop, But Food Is Just Okay Stumpy's is one of the only two spots right on the lake in Granbury for a quick bite, so it definitely serves a purpose. I stopped in for something fast and ended up with the typical deep-fried fare. I'm not particularly fond of the food -- everything tastes like it's been fried to death -- but if you're craving classic lake snacks, it gets the job done. I'm sure they have healthier options on the menu, but I didn't notice anything that stood out. Portions are generous, which is both a blessing and a curse. On the plus side, you don't have to feel wasteful if you don't finish your plate -- just walk it over to the seawall and the trained catfish and carp will happily clean up whatever you drop in the water. That's honestly one of the most entertaining parts of the visit. The location is convenient: you can shop for overpriced swimsuits and lake-appropriate apparel while you're there, and it's a solid place to stop for gas. They still sell ethanol-free fuel, which is a big win for boaters and anyone who cares about their engine. We stopped for treats and were very underwhelmed. $3.50 cupcake tasted slightly above average and were on the small size. Employee was a sullen teenager who lacked basic manners. We asked for recommendations, she showed us the only 2 cupcakes she sort of liked. This girl was ready for the end of her shift. Employees at front were helpful and high energy. Not a fan. The service is good at the counter. However, the rest of the staff stands around and watches you eat. You pick up your food at the kitchen window and then make you burger at a bar. If you want a drink you have to go to the bar and get it. Food was mediocre at best. Burger was over cooked and dry. The toppings were dry from sitting out and not well maintained. We checked this place out recently for lunch and had a good experience. We caught the post-church Sunday afternoon rush, but it wasn't too bad of a wait to order the food. The place is massive with tables inside and outside by the water. We ordered the grilled shrimp basket, buffalo chicken caesar tacos, and a small order of chips and queso. They have complimentary chips and salsa, which we also enjoyed. We were able to find a table outside by the water to enjoy our food. The tacos were tasty and the grilled shrimp (8) were flavorful. Such an amazing place to eat, shop, and play! I got the Philly cheesesteak, it was very moist and the fries were delicious. Portions are great for the price. It is such a fun place to have dinner. You can sit out by the water while you eat, watch the geese and turtles, feed them using the food dispenser, and there is turf for the kiddos to run around a bit. You can get delicious dessert to go and shop in their store before you leave. Servers are always readily available in case you need something. They were prepared very well. Hubby got a HUGE "double down hamburger" -- it was 1 pound of meat!. It was very tasty. There's a condiment bar with fresh tomatoes, lettuce, onions, pickles, jalapeños, pico de gallo. The fries were fresh and crispy. This is probably one of Granbury's most popular restaurants. It is a nice large restaurant that can accommodate a lot of people! You order up at the front where all the clothes are so you could shop while you're in line, and then you go find your seat. The bar and bakery are in a separate area. The line to order started from the door so we had to wait a while. Apparently they have daily specials, and on Fridays it's ribs hence it's extra packed. Unfortunately, they ran out of ribs by 7pm. The catfish basket I ordered was good, I replaced the regular fries with sweet potato fries and they gave a large portion. There's outside seating, you could sit by the lake and eat if you'd like! My family and I enjoyed our dinner. My husband chose the burger, my daughter chose chicken strips, my son chose fish dinner, and I had the fish tacos. All of our food was good, not something spectacular, but a good meal. It is a self serve style of restaurant, but when a table was opened the staff was there cleaning it quick for another family to sit down. This was exactly the perfect spot for what we needed. Large group of 9, hungry, with kids, for a birthday. You order at the register then go find a seat. Tons of space, loved the long picnic benches on the water. The food was actually much better than expected - well prepared burgers and grilled chicken, and the salad was extremely tasty, very high quality ingredients. FYI the large salad is big enough to share with a family. The burger topping bar was a huge hit with the kids, they ate a million pickles. The fries were a bit dry and over fried, however. I didn't deduct any stats for this, but the grilled shrimp po boy was very underwhelming - almost no shrimp, the bun to shrimp ratio was way off. Needed a sauce or slaw to elevate the flavors. And lots of little shell pieces were left. Don't get this. I was impressed with the staff here: efficiently run, many polite young people waiting to hold open doors and quickly clean off tables. They keep it clean. Super experience. My favorite part is the cupcake/bluebell ice cream shop inside. The *wedding cake* cupcake is one of the best cupcakes I've ever had. Extremely moist and the perfect amount of frosting, not overly sweet. My second fave was the chocolate PB, followed by lemon blueberry. Some of the fruit flavored cupcakes were more artificial tasting but I still enjoyed for what they are. Also my kids enjoyed the shopping! I can see how this place would pack out in summer time. This place is a true gem! Adorable spot right on the water. Staff were so kind and friendly. We ordered the chicken caesar salad tacos, grilled fish tacos and double decker grilled cheese. Also got queso to go with the complimentary chips and salsa (better than Chili's I promise!) There were plenty of seating options both inside and outside by the docks. The outdoor section is tented and really clean and comfortable. We opted to sit outside by the water. Everything was delicious. Definitely one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I've ever had. The fries and ranch dressing were so good as well. The star of the show for me was the Caesar salad tacos. Seriously a must try.My husband enjoyed the fish tacos as well they were his favorite. After we ate we shopped around the gift shop for a bit and chatted more with the staff. It was a lovely visit and we really enjoyed our little date right on the water. Stumpy's is a Lake Granbury favorite apparently.  Best known for its outdoor seating by the water and boat access by the locals.  It's a small town lakeside store, counter service restaurant, ice cream parlor, and bar all rolled into one.  It's certainly kid friendly which keeps it locked in the very casual category.  Nothing fancy here as there is food all over the place from the little ones dropping it on the floor/deck and kids* running around everywhere.  So not a good date night or hang out and have a conversation kinda place.  But if you wanna roll in in your bathing suit, ball cap, and flip flops  - you'll fit right in here. The bar has massive cold frosty mugs for serving a variety of beers or margaritas.  They have a small selection on tap and the margs are made for fast order (pre-mixed with bottle pump flavors) - so don't expect a craft cocktail here.  I opted for the grilled fish tacos.  They were actually decent to my surprise.  The coleslaw tasted fresh and they had some slim sliced spicy jalapenos to top them off which was a nice touch.  While I didn't try it, the fried fish and shrimp baskets my mom got looked good, but it was just too much fried stuff for me.  The thing that turned me off was the fact there were no signs about not feeding the water fowl and fish.  They have no respect for the marine life there.  People were just tossing fried food to them and the staff was even sweeping the scraps of fallen food into the water.  You would think being part of the ecosystem there they would be more considerate of sharing the space.  Maybe with all the profits they could provide healthy food options for these creatures for the guests to feed and that could be a draw to come there.  But no - they are literally endangering these creatures by feeding them this stuff.  This was a big turn off for me and dropped my stars from 3 to 2. read more

So my grandpa use to take me, my sister and our friends to Branson, Missouri every summer to visit our cousin. When I turned 18, the trips stopped. It's been a long time since I've been to Branson, but when I first laid eyes on Stumpy's (including the sign), down a steep drive, right beside the lake, I was immediately reminded of the memories made in Branson. It just looks like a restaurant that would be in Branson. Restaurant: You order as soon as you walk in, it's a gift shop (again, Branson feel) and then walk down a hallway, passing a delicious smelling bakery, into the sitting area. There's a sitting area by the condiments bar and then a sitting area by the bar and sitting area outside, right up against the lake. I'm not a lake fan, so we sat in the bar area. We were attended to quickly and our food came out quickly. My fish was top notch and I ate all of it. My wife also ate all of her meal. We went around 2pm and it wasn't crowded so the noise ambience was at a perfect level. I can't imagine going on a Friday or Saturday night when it's packed though. It was a great visit! read more

We were looking for a restaurant on the lake that had a nice view. The majority of the reviews were high, so we decided this was our lunch spot to try while we're in the area! I'm confused by these reviews as the food was truly lacking. The fried shrimp in the tacos had a very bad flavor, which resembled dirty dish water. We also tried a fried catfish & shrimp basket which tasted alright compared to the shrimp in our tacos. The catfish was fairly average, fried in cornmeal. I just have to emphasize that the shrimp in our tacos genuinely made me nauseous and I'm usually not a harsh critic. Even if the shrimp had tasted good, it was generally a weird combination of flavors as it was melted cheddar cheese, a plain slaw, and jalapeños on the taco. The service was okay, nothing special. You order in what appears to be a gift shop area then seat yourself and grab your food once the pager buzzes. They also have a small dessert area with cupcakes and icecream. About $3 for one cupcake, which wasn't anything to write home about. Maybe we caught them on an off day, but overall, we were really disappointed and wouldn't risk trying it again. read more
