Here's the negative, I went in for a cut, I showed the stylist two photos (different styles) and she said it was basically the same cut. I was cutting about six inches off my hair, she shampooed, cut and curled my hair and it looked fine. A few days later I shampooed and tried to style my hair, the layers and bangs were uneven, I called and they got me back in so the stylist could fix the issues. She seemed a bit flustered but did she see some problems with the cut and she tried to fix it. The next day I washed my hair and it is still uneven. I am now at another salon hoping to get a someone that can fix the issues and give me a cut that I can feel confident in.

I made an appointment for a consult and met the fabulous Rachel. From the moment I chatted with her, I trusted her implicitly. She understood my concerns, my hopes, and -- most importantly -- my hair. She was one of the warmest people I had ever met and our rapport was immediate. Since that time, I have come to know more about this young, brilliant stylist. She is gracious, effervescent, gentle, and interesting. I persuaded my husband -- who hadn't been to a stylist in about six decades -- to come with me and have Rachel cut his hair. He said that he now knew what I'd been raving about for months. Beyond Rachel, the salon is wonderful. They recently moved into new and upscaled quarters. It is contemporary and sleek, yet exudes a warm welcome; it is open and bright, and yet gives a feeling of privacy in each stylist's space; it is softly-scented, evoking a mood of calm and serenity, and yet there is enough bustle and enthusiastic conversation to highlight the camaraderie between stylist and client. Despite their policy about cancelled appointments, they understood, didn't charge me, and told me to take my time and that I could rebook whenever I wished. The first time my husband accompanied me, he was offered -- as is everyone upon entering -- a beverage. He requested decaf coffee which they did not have. Yesterday, on his second visit, the lovely receptionist told him that she had ordered decaf specifically because he had asked for it on his first visit. The reason for the conflict is that they scheduled me with somebody specific and told me they would call if there was an issue with the scheduling - and when I came in, it was a completely different person (Emma) who had SMELLY HANDS (just came back from lunch, apparently) and didn't seem to know what they were doing. They then tell me they'd try to find someone else only to come back with their instructor who immediately started painfully pulling my hair and taking out my hair clips (I was wincing, she ignored it) without first asking for consent to touch me. At this point I was befuddled by how communication could be so sloppy and smirky and passive aggressive in an industry built on rapport, so I went to the front to try to reschedule or resolve only to be completely dismissed and disrespected by whoever that was working in the front. This person was either incapable or unwilling to participate in any comprehension or problem solving, and decided to be incredibly nasty about it. This is who represents this place, I guess. UPDATE: Went to a highly reviewed salon a few days after my visit with Vo where I had two pros look at my hair to assess the situation (and probability of me somehow getting what I originally wanted), and both agreed that what Vo did to my hair was "pretty bad" and unprofessional. All I heard, as they were slowly combing and lifting through my hair, were soft whispers and gasps of horror with the occasional, "Girl look at this... omg..." After hearing what they could do to fix the mess Vo left me with (weeks of painstaking piece meal work and god-knows-how-much-money) I ultimately decided to have them take me back to my original brown so I could start over from square one. THAT'S how bad it was. All that time and money just to go back to brown and have my hair be short and thin instead of long and thick. God I could scream. I appreciate you offering to fix the mess you left me with, Thanh, but no thanks. I would much rather you spend the time you would've taken on fixing my hair to spending it on some coloring courses instead. Just because you own a salon doesn't mean you've mastered the art of hair. The other guy whom you trained on the fly with me has a lot of learning to do also. I could tell he didn't know what he was doing and yet you still let him touch my hair while you juggled two other clients. Unacceptable service. On top of that, neither you or the other guy ever made small talk with me, which I've never experienced at a salon in all my life. Like, not a single word or question about my day or even my name.
