Lots of choices, but I can only pick a few after I had lunch. I had to get a cinnamon roll sticky bun ($6.50). Not one bite was dry - not even the outside. It was so good and sweet. They have poppyseed hamantaschen which is odd to have all-year round because it is specific to the Jewish holiday of Purim, but like anything, if it is available people will buy it. Stumbled upon this spot in Granville Island Public Market/Eatery area. This place gets really busy especially on the weekend so it was a little chaotic. There wasn't too much of a line but it was hard to calmly decide what to get and place our order. 5 stars for the super awesome service recovery from the store manager Masa. He reached out to me after my review and offered to either refund me for the item I was charged but did not order in the first place or replace it with another item. I happened to be in Granville Island getting the Thai food (Sen Pad has legit Thai food!) and decided to drop by. Masa was apologetic about the new staff's inability to do the reverse charges then and was most kind in helping me choose what items to try. I asked for what would be good as I really did not want to get something which would be disappointing again. I thought it would just be one item to replace what I did not order but to my surprise, I was given 4 items to try. That was really unexpected but very much appreciated. That certainly delighted me in terms of the service. Sometimes excellent service can trump a negative experience. He totally recommends the cheesecake. Unfortunately I am the weird one who do not like cheesecake much. I do have quite an exacting palate especially for desserts. I am also very partial to the French style of patisserie which I think this place is not. So others may really enjoy the baked goods here. In the end, I decided to try the granola which is apparently popular with customers. Then Masa added the key lime tart, tiramisu and cinnamon record for me to try. I thought I would be paying for the tart and tiramisu but nope, they were on the house. I was told the cinnamon record was best to eat on the same day. It was freshly made that day. This time I could break it off easily and taste it better. It was really good! Flaky, buttery with a hint of saltiness. I can see why this is a crowd favorite. The key lime tart was decent. It had a slight tang which was not overpowering. As I had better key lime pie elsewhere (A Pie Hole), this did not wow me much. The tiramisu was also good. I was worried it would be on the dry side but no, the ladies fingers were soaked at the bottom. I would get this again. The granola was not bad. I liked the nuts but they were not very crunchy like other places. It was still ok though. Now I found something here which I could get in future -- tiramisu. Service was just alright. Lots to choose from but neither the Strawberry Tart nor the Florentine really blew me away. It was very thoughtful of the worker to offer us samples of the granola while she was making it though - but it also could have been because we just so happened to make eye contact with her as she popped on into her mouth too HAHA. The Strawberry Tart was a nice vanilla custard, and a little bit of chocolate which gave it a nice touch compared to other strawberry tarts. They were also very generous with the strawberries, and it was a cute lil size (because we wanted to try so many other things in Granville Island and didn't wanna commit to just one dessert that would make us full) The florentine was chocolate dipped and had a chocolate hazelnut filling which was wayyyy too sweet for me. Before our trip to Vancouver, I was studying my travel book. In the book, Stuart's bakery was highly recommended. They are known for their tarts, especially fruit ones. You will find the bakery inside the public market. There are so many kinds of tarts. I settled with key lime pie and my sister got the almond Dutch pie because they were their best sellers. Even too much of a good thing is not a good thing... (is that how the saying goes?). It's a messy pastry and I really only needed a quarter of the entire dessert to be satisfied with it. The chocolate chunk cookies looked irresistible - and while I'm usually more of a fan of the chewier fudgier sort, I found the chocolate chunk cookie to be pretty cake-y, which I actually really liked. Stuart's Bakery is one of the bakeries in the tourists and (some) locals filled Granville Island. They have a huge booth with many visually pleasing looking pastries. The items we tried: Pride Slice - This is easily the most visually pleasing slice of cake in the entire case. Alas, it's not the best taste or for that matter, what exactly is the taste? Just buttercream, maybe. Each cream layer is "chucky", which is entirely undesirable. Mango Cheesecake - This was quite tasty. A good mango flavor in the cheesecake. Raspberry filled Linz cookie - This treat is a fairly standard cookie sandwich with a dollop of raspberry topping. The raspberry jam is quite good; the cookie itself doesn't have a lot of flavor. I think this place has hits and misses. More like a 2.5 stars. Others commented on the lines being confusing. The registers are in the center. Would I come back? They have a lot of different items. If you are from California, it is kind of like Porto's where they have something to cater to everyone's taste. I would definitely come back to try their other items. On my visit I decided to try the cinnamon wheel and the maple cheesecake. The cinnamon wheel caught my eye because it looked like a giant disc. It was just okay and reminded me of a butterfly cookie. The maple cheesecake was good. It was not too sweet and had the aroma from the maple syrup. The consistency was creamy, smooth and not too sweet. Only complaint was the crust since parts of it stuck on the board it was served on. I would definitely recommend people to stop by here if they are at Granville Market. Whatever you like, they probably have it there. Out of all the bakeries in Granville Market, Stuart's caught our eye. It's just something about the variety of color and types of desserts all lined up perfectly along the edge of the display case. Polished and picture-perfect! Despite the lines, service is fairly quick, but allows you just enough time to decide on your order. We probably should have asked for recommendations, but we just based our picks solely off of appearance. I got the Chocolate Raspberry Tart, which had a decadent chocolate ganache and raspberry jam atop a graham cracker crust. The ganache was creamy and rich, but the crust seemed to be the miss here... I thought it would have a buttery flavor, but instead, it was pretty bland. We also got a Cinnamon Record, which is a huge round flaky pastry covered in a cinnamon glaze. It is actually the size of a music record, so it's perfect for sharing! Unfortunately it was on the dry side and didn't live up to our expectations. My family tried the Key Lime Tart which seemed to be a winner...had the right amount of sweetness and embodied exactly what a key lime pie should be. Everything was presented quite nicely. Portuguese Egg Tart was the only item I bought. Would have purchased more, if the customer service had been above average. Cinnamon Record and Eccles Cakes (5/5) - Huge, sweet but not overbearing, with just the perfect mixture of sticky and flaky. The Eccles Cake had a caramelly sweetness to it and the raisins were a nice touch. The Cinnamon record had the same caramelly sweetness but I couldn't detect much of a cinnamon spice. Either way, I loved them both, so delicious!! I was tempted with my 2nd visit to also try a couple of their artisan pastries because they were all so beautiful and aesthetic. I chose a basic Chocolate Eclair and a Napoleon. Their pastries definitely looked a lot better than they tasted. The Chocolate Eclair (2/5) - was generously filled with a light whipped cream which hardly had any flavour or sweetness to it, strangely enough. The only flavour I got was the chocolate coating on top. The Napoleon (3/5) - was quite yummy, the cream, a bit of fruit jam, and layers of cake was delicious and had the right sweetness. You just need to get someone's attention if you want something. So as I said earlier, I got Cherry Cannoli's. I have never eaten cherry cannoli's before, but there was a man who had just bought what looked like a half dozen, so I figured we should try them too. Looks can be deceiving. The cinnamon record, this was totally average. In my opinion not worth the calories. The little tradition cheese cake, was a flop as well. My wife, who likes cheese cake, said that she has had much better. The shop is super pretty. But like the produce places, looks are deceiving. We, in our family, are suckers for pastries. Bad. And we've visited this bakery counter three times now (each time we've visited the Granville Public Market) and each time we've purchased baked goods (how can we not? Everything looks amazing!), and each time, everything we've tried has been delicious and fresh. We've had macaroons from here (they have a huge selection. So many colors and flavors available!), and cookies (I prefer the oatmeal with cranberry and macadamia nut, but my kid loves the stand-by chocolate chip). My family had never heard of Nanaimo bars, so I had to get that item for them. I was hoping to have a bite, as I haven't had a Nanaimo bar since I was perhaps 8 years old, but hubby and kid inhaled it before I could taste it (we all have a huge sweet tooth and nothing is safe when in our hands!). Needless to say, they loved it! I love how they have hamentashen cookies here, with a few different fillings, no less! I tried the traditional poppy seed hamentashen and it was buttery shortbread-like, with the perfect amount of sweet filling. They have some delicious "Crinkle" bark, too, made with lots of different seeds (they'll give you a sample to try). Their display case has SO many different kinds of pastries to drool over: croissants and rolls, tarts, cakes, pies, breads, desserts of every sort. One would be hard-pressed not to find exactly what one is looking for here, bakery-wise. At times I found it was a little difficult getting help at the counter and there's no "system" in place for customers to queue up, get help and then pay. So it can be chaotic. But the ladies who work this counter are very nice, and we've never really had a problem (it pays to be patient). We love this dessert stand! It's one of our go-to places in the city now and we look forward to visited every time we're in town. read more

I wanted to sample all the yummy fruit tart, cheesecake and cookies that just came straight out of the oven. It took my friend and I at least 10 minutes to decide which lucky pastries was going back to the hotel with us. My friend is a huge fruit tart fan, so that's what she ended up getting and I got the apple caramel cheesecake. The fruit tart was delicious, you can taste the perfect amount of butter they used on the crust. The filling was not overly sweet which was topped with some tasty fresh fruits. My apple caramel cheesecake was amazing! It wasn't too sweet, the apple and caramel was mix very well together. The texture of the cheesecake was on point. It kind of taste like Apple pie, but better! Service was quick! The people behind the counter was super friendly!
