I purchased new tires from Mavis Discount Tires about a year ago, and I went to get my tires rotated. They wanted an additional $19.99/tire to rebalance the tires. Every other place where I purchased the road hazard option rebalanced the tires for free when rotating the tires. What a frustrating waste of time and money. Don't get me wrong- Martin and Maury were both kind and tried to be understanding and helpful. Unfortunately, the attention to detail at both this and the Butler location is not sufficient. When a store screws up and damages your car or causes enormous inconveniences, some refund or retention effort should be made. I have had most of my major car service and repair done at Mavis for 5 years now. I emailed corporate about a frustrating experience at Butler- no answer. This time I made an appointment for 3 new tires (after a flat was recently replaced). I let them know when I called that I had a negative experience recently at their neighboring store in Butler. They said they'd be glad to service my vehicle and ensure it was done in a satisfactory manner. The first problem was that there was no thought to check inventory to see if they had the three matching tires I needed. So upon arrival for my appointment, I had to come back an hour and a half later, after they went to get the tires from a neighbor store. Frustrating, but not a big deal. The following day when I took my car on the highway, there was a noticeable wobble that felt unsafe. I was on my way to Long Island, so I stopped at the nearest location in Lodi to ensure the car was safe to drive. This slowed me down an hour. They let me know it was safe but after I did a visual check, I realized ONE OF THE TIRES WAS NOT A MATCH- it was a different brand than all the others and did not match what was on my receipt. I called to let Martin know what happened and that I'd expect a manager to provide a partial refund for the incredible and frustrating inconvenience of having to stop at another store AND come back to his store to get the tires I should've had in one quick visit. So, by now, I've arrived at a Mavis four times to get the tires I needed (having called ahead for the fourth visit, to ensure they had a single tire in stock- something no one at the store thought of). Martin was no where to be found and the store seemed to have a brand new manager. I was told they'd offer me 50% off the tire I was getting. HA! I already paid for the tire, and I came in to finally receive the one that was not installed. I told them I would hope for and request some retention effort for these extra hours of annoying phone calls, drive time and repeat visits to get a simple tire change. No retention effort was offered. I let them know I'd likely not be back and they'd be getting these reviews. Save yourself the pain and go literally anywhere else! UPDATE: The store was not empowered to provide any retention effort, but the Consumer Solutions team contacted me today. I'm changing my review from 2 to 3 stars since they offered me some credit on any future work done. I'm not sure I'll risk going back, but I appreciate the effort either way. read more

Brought my car in for "free" tire rotation. Was told I needed brakes. As I was driving car back to Florida I said ok. They broke the sensor. Dashboard lit up with errors. After 3 days back & forth they took it to Subaru who fixed sensor but they said they also picked holes in the wire harness which they sent me pictures of. Sent them to mavis who said they fixed sensor & car is now "operational " will not pay to replace wire harness. Subaru quoted price of $5,200. To fix. This was mavis on Hamburg Tpk Wayne, NJ. Whom ever is the owner of this location you MUST get rid of this man! He is rude, condescending and has no people skills whats so ever! Zero!!! I was told I don't know how to fill a tire, when I def do and I was dismissed and told to to sit down when I asked after 1 hr and 10 minutes passed as to when my vehicle is going in to check the valve and tire for my slow leak. In the meantime while I'm waiting a walk in oil/filter change was done that came in after me. I am a Mavis member for years with a CC and I will never come back to this horrific location and will tell others not to simply because of this man. Any company knows the first person a patron encounter and speaks to is the biggest impression on a business and who they are. This man makes this place horrific from the first words out of his mouth and the dismissive tone. I sat there for almost 2hrs and he was using this tone with everyone walking in including his co worker. Disgusting and if your keeping him and he continues to deal with customers it simply shows the quality and lack of judgement this location wants to maintain. The other gentleman working there apologized for the long wait and was simply amazing, courteous, professional, friendly and spoke and treated me and others as a business should. I got there at 9:43am and left at 11:42am for a slow leak with my own spare on because a pin hole off the wall couldn't be plugged up here. I had to drive back over and the only excuse I got was that the new employee doesn't know how to read. BS Tried to rip me off and did not try and make it right. They're the best! I just had to have my brakes replaced and - of course I underestimated the damage of driving around. They were very polite and made sure I understood everything being done and why, which I greatly appreciate. It's not a quick process but I know that they tried their best to get it finished up as quickly as possible and communicate with me in between. Could not rate this location low enough. Came in Friday afternoon after having a tire blowout on the highway- called before I came and made sure they had the correct tire I needed in stock. Got the spare on, and drove the car normally over to Mavis in Wayne. No problems at all. I dealt with Chris at the front desk basically the entire time, and he was extremely friendly and kind. I wish I could go back and thank him, even if it was just for his time and patience. Nobody else at this location seemed to have any with us. Dropped the car off and after about 3-4 hours, came back to pick up my car. All seemed well, and I figured since it was just a simple tire swap/alignment, what these people SPECIALIZE in, that I would have no issues. How wrong I was. As soon as I pulled out of the lot, after accelerating to about 35-40mph, the cars traction control light starts flashing and I feel as if I am losing control of the vehicle- like it is sliding on ice. Brakes lock up and I am instantly terrified to drive my car. Something that has never happened in the years that I've owned this car, even after tire changes/alignments/driving with the spare on. Only started happening after the new tires are put on by them. Pull over, call Mavis again, and tell them something is not right. They tell me to bring it back. Chris comes out, and offers to test drive the car around the block for me. He comes back minutes later, saying "wow, that was really scary. That shouldn't happen." They decided to keep my car overnight to take a more in depth look at it in the morning. At 9am the next morning, I receive a call from the manager Luis- who told me apparently my car requires 4 new tires (even though I had 2 replaced last winter), and that it's something that all Nissan vehicles require- it will cause issues without. Something they didn't mention to me when I brought the car in initially, or before driving the now death-trap vehicle away from their shop the first time. After questioning why nobody told me that in the first place, and why my car is only having problems after they touched it, Luis offered to give me the 2 new front tires for free. At this point, I needed my vehicle back in working order to get to work, so I took them up on this offer, thinking it would fix the problem. Wrong again. After 5.5 hours of silence, I call them back- Luis now tells me even with 4 new tires on the vehicle, it is still having the issue and they don't know what else to try. He even said they tried "googling" the problem and couldn't find a solution. I told them I would like to just pick my car up and would take it somewhere else for a second opinion, as they clearly had no idea what was going on. When I said this, I was told the car is no longer in drivable condition (after driving it to them with no issues) and will need to be towed off the lot. I was not satisfied with this response and ended up taking my car anyways. When we were walking out, Chris told me to bring the car back today (Monday) and they would not only take another look, but also mentioned the regional manager would be by and he could try to rectify the situation for us. We pulled into the lot around 8am when they opened today, and immediately the manager Luis came out and asked why we came back. When we mentioned his associate told us to, he seemed very worked up telling us they don't fix electrical problems and how it would be pointless for us to leave the car with them because they won't be touching it. He eventually asked us to leave the store. Took the car to someone else, he hooked the car up, reset the computer system, and the car is now working fine. I'm not sure how they get away with treating customers so poorly (so many 1 star reviews, especially on Yelp) but I will not be returning to this location ever again. These guys clearly hire anyone, with very little car knowledge and cannot be trusted. They will tell you it's your fault, something you did, and refuse to take accountability. I brought my car because the steering wheel was moving to the left with a tire rotation. I spent $890 to have tire rods and bushings replaced and a wheel alignment. They said it would be 2 1/2 hours possible 3. I called 4 hours later and not ready. Maybe in another 2 hours. Nope, it ended up another 1/2 hour. I drove the car out onto the street and it was pulling to the left. The put it back on the machine to align it and gave me my car back saying that it was the best they could do. Didn't have a reason why it still was pulling. They drove it in their small parking lot and said it was good to go. The next day I drove it on the highway, The car was pulling to the left, vibrating so bad and when I stepped on the brake I had a huge clunking noise in the rear that I never had . read more

I had a slow leak in my tire that needed plugged. I get several leaks a year due to my work environment and the typical charge is free to $20. Was charged $42 even though website showed $23. Plug was cheap type by plugging without taking the tire off. Mavis guarantees they will beat any price. I suppose the Mavis facility at 2264 Hamburg Turnpike in Wayne, NJ doesn't live by this and bleeds their customers for all they can. Avoid this ripoff place at all costs. read more

Bought 4 new tires and had them installed at Wayne location. Made appt and they even called to confirm 2 days before. Showed up and was simply told they could not do it that day and had to return the next day because the person who does it is not there. So next day had it installed. For 2 weeks after while driving, there was constant small vibration as if you were driving over slightly bumpy road. Brought it back and was told they had to balance the 2 front tires. He could not give me answer as to why they were not balanced on day of install. Then the thought of them needing to only balance 2 of the 4 tires did not sound right to me. So I spent the extra money and brought it to my regular mechanic. My regular mechanic actually chuckled and said he was surprised how many weights were placed all over the tires by Mavis in their attempt to balance tires. My mechanic had to balance all 4 tires again. I have actually bought 4 new tires for 2 other vehicles within the last 3-4 year here and never had a problem until recently. Not sure if it's new owner or management or just bad mechanics. But I will never return again. read more

Very unprofessional, disorganized and careless. I called on a Monday to ask if they had a specific tire in stock after a blowout a few days prior. I was told they didn't have the tire and would order it. The man on the phone stated that he ordered the tire, it would arrive the same day and they would call me. No phone call. The next day, Tuesday, I called to follow up and was told they would have the tire same-day on Tuesday. No phone call. I ended up driving to the location Tuesday evening and dropping off my car so they could swap the tire as soon as they received it the next day. Wednesday, I received a call from a woman to verify that it was the wheel with donut that I want the tire put on! Really?! "No, please leave the donut on the vehicle and replace a different tire." I received another call later in the day from the actual mechanic who told me they ordered the wrong tire. At this point, frustrated and unable to trust these people, I picked up my car with the donut to take my business elsewhere. When I arrived, there was another individual in a fit after the actually installed the wrong size tire on his vehicle. The manager/ (perhaps owner since he gave us a lecture about how to answer him about whether the tire was repairable) clearly was only interested in selling us a set of new tires, even when I indicated the leased auto would be turned in shortly. The worst experience of my life. It is a money scam. Went in for breaks, pads and rotors. Was told my caliper was warped, calipers cant warp, they cant bend. Told me the guy can "fix" my caliper instead of me buying new one as long as I give him a good tip. When my car was finished I was forced to pay over the phone without seeing the list of services that were preformed to my car. I got the receipt to my car when I picked it up. I was charged for a power steering flush and a break line flush. I was not told about these expenses over the phone. A couple days later I get a call from mavis asking if I TIPPED the man who "fixed" my caliper and if I could drop off his tip today. after being over charged they still called asking for more money. I was also charged an insane rate for instillation. At this point I want the money back that I was over charged and I want the labor fees back. I will happily pay for the pads and rotors, but I feel like that's all I should be charged after this experience. I understand money is tight for everyone right now, but to scam a hard working female for them to get extra money in thier pockets is ridiculous. Not impressed. I went in for a heater core radiator flush due to poor heat. I had paid it and really didn't pay attention to the price because I had been told it was about $85. MY BAD. Later with still poor heat I checked the antifreeze filling tank. It had the same crappy old brown antifreeze. I then looked at the invoice and it was $147 and had it as a brake system flush. They had sent me a survey online and I gave low marks. To be honest I did see them put new antifreeze in but the system but was not flushed it was just drained and the heater core was not reversed flushed. SURPRISE I was contacted by an area manager who apologized and wanted to help. He offered a refund and I accepted. So on that the company takes reviews serious. He was a good representative for the company. Bottom line don't be me. Read the invoice. Also if you want a particular service don't be talked into added stuff. They do try to sell you on other stuff. Which really isn't needed. On a warm day I did it myself in 1 hour and heat was better. read more

Dropped my truck off to replace front and rear rotors and pads. Said it would be done in about 2 hours. I called to check status and they tell me I have to replace the calipers. I said ok. Called back to check status, they said I need additional parts. Called again to get my truck, they said a specific time. I go there and my truck is still on a lift and he tells me it will be 10 min. As I write this, it's been over an hour. Truck still on the lift. They are still working in it. I will never come here again!!! They do not know how to communicate. They try to add in extras that you don't need due to their own lack of mechanical skills. I usually let a friend work on my truck but he was not available. Caution !!! So my partner went there to have tire repairs . While she waited the tech came to her and said she needed breaks and the car was not safe to drive. It would cost $600.00. She inquired further as to why she didn't notice anything while driving and he mansplained replied it's not safe to drive and if she was to come across any ice she was in big trouble. She had no breaks left and it was not safe. He was pushy and trying to scare her into doing the work. She refused the break work and only approved the tire repair . She was very concerned driving home but I assured her we would look at them first thing in the am . SO the next morning she came out to a flat on the tire that he plugged!! Then when we pulled the wheel to repair the same tire he was paid to repair the day before . we checked the breaks and they were fine. They were all fine. Charged almost $700 to get front brakes, rotors, and an oil change. They called multiple times to say we needed to add this and that, and gave us a price. What they didn't tell us is that the price only included ONE side to get done and not both. On arrival had to find out that the price they originally gave just multiplied by two. I went here because I popped my tire and was driving on a donut. As soon as I got there they took my car, took my keys and said all they needed was to put air in my tire and they'd change it for me. 15 minutes after that, they called and tried to sell me a bunch of stuff I didn't need and even tried to scare me into a brake flush. I would NEVER recommend this place for ANYTHING. They just take advantage of younger people and girls who don't know a lot about cars and try to scare you into replacing stuff you don't need done. While the staff is extremely friendly, I brought my car there this past Tuesday because my brake lights were out and I was ticketed. I was there 2 hrs and ended up taking a half day of work. They told me it wasn't my brake light bulbs and tried to replace the brake switch which was not correct either. In the end they told me there was nothing they can do because it was an electrical problem and they don't handle that there. I went to my regular mechanic in Pine Brook today who I have been going to for years and he said, "STS told you it wasn't your brake light bulbs and it was something electrical?" Then he opened up his hand and showed me my two DEAD brake lights and told me that's all it was. I wasted 2 hours and had to take a half day of work when I went to STS who couldn't identify dead brake light bulbs. I wont be going back to you guys. read more

My mom and I ended up stranded with a flat not far away and my boyfriend called in advance to talk see if they could take us or we would have gone somewhere else, corporate told us to absolutely come in and Patrick was extremely rude and told us corporate lied and that he had no room for us and to try to make it to PA on the doughnut. I came in and was greeted by Chris. I explained how my front headlights were out, in which he took me in. An hour later, he apologized on why it is taking so long, and that it is not my headlights that were the issue, but the relay. Then, he comes back 30 minutes later apologizing that he ordered the wrong part, and that it is on its way in about 20 minutes. About 20-30 minutes later, he explains how its an electricity problem, and that "I need to go to a dealership". He also said that I needed new tires, which I got them done not even a year ago. Then, Patrick asked me to pay 54 and some change for "labor and diagnostics". I went to my dealership the next day, took them at most 30 minutes to fix both my headlights. I even told them how STS said there was something wrong electrically with the wiring and that is why they couldnt fix it, they laughed. I also asked my dealership if I needed new tires in which they said they're fine, just needed some air. If you guys do not know how to do a job properly and efficiently, tell me so I can save my money, and more importantly time. read more

So I've been going to STS for a couple of years now for any tire or alignment service. I had them replace 2 rear tires recently, however they over torqued one of the wheel bolts and it snapped. Fortunately I had a spare at home so I had them zip it on for me. That was one small issue but overall they do a great job and have gone above and beyond to give me what I want and expect.
