Let's get straight to the point!!! I live in Easton, PA boarder line of NJ APPROX. 48 MIN.Drive to work at EWR airport. I know about this particular "Pep boys" in Roselle, NJ because my wife and I used to live in Elizabeth NJ. NOW!!! My wife and I had some business to take care of in Elizabeth, NJ; So I made an appointment for that particular "Pep Boys" at 711 E 1st Ave, Roswell, NJ 07203. First, I called and spoke with someone early that morning at approximately, 10:17 am on the morning of 12/18/2025 to make an appointment. I explained that I had already purchased the parts to make the necessary repairs on my vehicle. I was told by a male employee of that particular "Pep Boys" that I was good to come in for the engine mount replacements. I asked for an estimate first because my particular vehicle has 3 mounts. So I asked for a general price for service because, again I had already obtained the parts. The "Pep Boys" employee gave me an estimate which was too high to have all three mounts done so, I asked what was the estimated price for labor to have two mounts done he stated $375 along with the estimated time the job would take which was approximately 2.5 hrs. I call back before I get there because I'm running late. I spoke with a female employee and explained the situation as far as, me already having the parts attempting to save money. My wife and I drop the car off come to find out the woman I was speaking to on the phone was the manager at that particular "Pep boys" so she's telling me the gentleman that I had spoken with earlier was not there. I explained to the female manager the price her employee quoted to me on the phone. She proceded to quote a whole different price to me which was extremely higher than the labor cost previously given to me. So I stated just change the main motor mount then. "PLEASE" The time was approximately 1:30 pm, could've be 2 pm. She calls me to the work area at about 3:30 pm possibly 3:45 pm to tell me that I would have to leave my car there because her/"Pep Boys" mechanic couldn't get the bolts off because the vehicle was an older vehicle so instead of notifying me the customer of the problem though I'm sitting right there in the waiting area mind you; she also had my cell number. I'm assuming her being the manager approved the mechanic to go ahead and burn the bolts of with a welding torch. The problem she/"Pep Boys" created though was parts of the bolts were now stuck and she's telling me they would have to drill new holes into my cars engine mount brackets and by the way didn't know what size bolts would fit. I'm like OKAY! You all have four hours left on your work schedule. I have a 13 year old daughter at home alone in PA, my wife has medical issues not to mention we weren't planning on having to stay out for the night so I also didn't have my blood pressure medication or cholesterol pills. Now!, as far as not knowing the size of the bolts to replace. I would assume if you type in the Year, Make and model of the car the specs. For the vehicle should come up! THANK GOD! I had just gotten paid even though I had to use some of our holiday funds for a Lyft and hotel for me and my wife for the night OOOCUH but she was cold and shaking out while we waited for the Lyft not to mention though I was worried about my 13 yr old being at home alone. If you are a parent especially a mother you can imagine what she was going through psychologically. I also had another issue to be worried about like GOD FORBID!!! My vehicle is broken into or if anything is missing out of our car whose going to be held responsible for it! In conclusion, I would respectfully advise corporate to advise their managers to be more transparent other than basically saying SHIT! Happens and even though "Pep Boys" caused the issues there's nothing we can do to help you in this unexpected situation and we won't charge you for the (BOLTS). read more

I had a slow leak in my tire and needed a repair. My first instinct was to go somewhere else because getting into Pep Boys can be a bit tricky. But I remembered having a good experience there before, so I decided to take the longer route and come in from Bloomfield Avenue, even though it meant driving through Montclair. I'm really glad I did. From the moment I walked in, the customer service was excellent. The waiting area was clean, bright, and comfortable. There was a slight tire smell, as expected, but nothing overwhelming. I did not have an appointment. I explained that my tire was low and suspected a nail. I was told the wait would be about 45 minutes, so I settled in. To my surprise, within about 15 minutes, I was told my car was next, and just 10 minutes later, the repair was done. It turned out to be a nail, which they quickly and efficiently fixed. The best part--there was no charge. That level of honesty and customer care is rare. I left a tip for the service team and went on my way, extremely satisfied. I'm very glad I chose to go out of my way to return. This is what great customer service looks like. read more

Many issues with the car and battery were diagnosed by my dealership the next day and pep boys said the vehicle was fine and the diagnostic report was fine. Horrible waste of time. Great experience at Pep Boys of Verona, NJ-- I had a flat tire on a Sunday! They are open on Sunday, thank goodness! Staff was professional, quick, I was in and out in 20 mins. I thought I would need a new tire but they were able to plug the hole. They switched out the "donut" I was riding on and put the repaired tire back on for no charge. Highly recommend! read more

I took my Nissan Murano to Pep Boys in Verona, NJ today at the recommendation of a friend, after mentioning that I went to the dealership who quoted me about $1200 for 4 tires balanced labor included. When I went to Pep Boys and met Eddie here's the deal I got...... 4 Cooper tires, all balanced and a wheel alignment, and a synthetic oil change all for the price of $996 and what a great job they did I am so grateful. In addition these tires have a rotation warranty that is included in this price. And even though they say these tires can go up to 80,000 miles, Eddie was honest and he said typically you get about 50 to 60 and when I read the reviews online they said the same thing but I'll take 50 or 60,000 miles on the tires. I used to do a lot of driving. I was lucky if I got 30,000 on my last tires. They also have tables and chairs set up in the waiting area, and you can go across the street and get a sandwich-if you wanna wait you can bring your computer and work they have Wi-Fi and it's very clean- I must say I was really impressed. I don't think I'll ever take my car anywhere else again. Eddie and Marcus were very kind, helpful, honest and professional. Try them out if you need service or tires. read more

I'm a forgiving guy, so I paid anyway for their best efforts... There's a new knock in my wheel well as soon as I drive off the lot... I call to get refunded for the alignment they admitted they couldn't accomplish in the first place... they say they will refund. They don't. I call corporate. They say they'll get on it... they drop my call. So i just got robbed and my car is in worse shape than when i brought it to them. If you do go, avoid a man named Christian specifically. On last Friday -- March 24 -- I had a 10:30 wheel alignment appointment scheduled at this location; my car wasn't taken into the bays to be worked on until noon. No one said "hey, we're running a little behind", no apologies, nothing. Keep in mind, I had brought the car in an hour early, so I didn't really count that hour, but communication would've been appreciated. Sadly, that wasn't even the worst of it. When my car was "done", I learn they couldn't give me a full alignment because they didn't have the tools to adjust my camber bolt. I have a 2020 Dodge Charger, so there's some special procedure that has to be done, blah blah blah. I started asking questions, so the other front desk staff intervene because he "used to work for Dodge". After more nonsense, I was able to translate it to "they couldn't complete the alignment they were gonna have me pay full price for." I made it clear I wasn't paying full price if I didn't get full service. After heated discussion, the staff decided to not have my pay for the alignment, which I found happened a little too easily. But I realized this story would only get worse... I decided to take my car to a Mavis the next day... and come to find out--not only was my camber fine, but it was the TOE that was misaligned. After explaining the events of the previous day, the tech basically said it's a good chance the PepBoys tech didn't even do the alignment check. So not only were the staff at this PepBoys location rude and unprofessional, but it's highly probable he lied in my face and initially tried to have me pay full price for a service they didn't even perform. Only reason I didn't contact the location's manager is because... quite frankly, I believe the manager enables this unprofessional behavior, so I'd be talking to a wall. I told him I needed a 225/40/18 and we had a brief conversation about making sure it had black lettering, so it wouldn't stand out. The OEM had been discontinued. So I understood that they couldn't match it. He then said they would put the new tire in back, instead of the front where the spare currently is. He told me I could in at 4pm, but I told him that I had work. He then offered a time of 1pm on Sunday, I said I worked at 3, and asked about 11:00am. He said great, and took my phone number. I arrived about 10:52am, and the lady politely said they did not have an appointment for me. She took my information and keys and took a call. She didn't ask for many details about the car and was distracted by two ladies who were standing at the counter. It sounded as though one of them used to work here, and they squeezed her in, to the front of the line. That part may have been in my head. Lol It's currently 11:58am and my car has not moved. 12:17pm, still nothing. 12:36pm nothing It's been 2 hours now, no news. The person who was at the counter, is now trying to change the oil of a Grand Cherokee. I'd ask to talk to a manager, but 1. The sign showing the manager is blank with no picture or name and 2. They are just busy. 1:14pm nothing 1:28pm they've lost my keys 1:31 pm after ripped apart their desk, they found them in another red sleeve. 1:32pm my car is in the bay 1:42pm Adrianna came to me to let me know they don't have a specific tire. I told her that I had this exact conversation with the guy on Friday. Never heard that. It's a fairly new tire with good tread on it . I know of other major tire chains that do.they want to patch it . The want to take the wheel off so they can charge you more. So the say I need rear brakes it's metal on metal. I said I would bring it to my mechanic he said I barely have a week left on the brakes. I'm a little torn on this. I was all set to give them a 5/5 because I had an issue with my brake fluid leaking and even though I was looking to get a new car in the near future, I knew I had to fix this for safety reasons, so this was the third place I took it to and both the first ones wanted me to get a whole lot of work done when I emphasized I JUST wanted to fix the leak issue and sell it, I'm not putting in $1000+ to get a car up to perfect shape that's only worth approx $800 trade in value. This place gave me a price for other recommended services, but they were straightforward that if I wanted to sell the car soon, they listed what were the only things in need of urgent repair. They also took a coupon I had from online, so we're talking about $350 repair bill vs. $570-620 I had had for the same job at other places. But then I went to pick up the car, their posted hours are 7 am - 7 pm but they told me they were changing them to 8 am, but then nobody strolls in until 9. I've never in my life seen a business just open so late nonchalantly with a "well I was in traffic" and no apology excuse. Of course that made me late for work. If I were dropping off the car, I would have just gone somewhere else professional enough to open on time (note they still have the 7 am signage up which is obviously going to confuse people who don't ask if you changed your posted hours). But since I had to pick up my car, I had no choice but to wait and be late for work which is money out of my pocket because no one was courteous enough to be on time. So...would I come again? The price was right and maybe this is that extremely rare occurrence and maybe there was a big accident on the highway and they got here as soon as they could. Or they are unprofessional, inconsiderate jerks. Hard to say. I'm still very upset by this and not even getting an apology for it, but if I had major repair works that needed to be done in the future, I'd probably take it elsewhere and come back only for a comparative quote when this place COULD have been my first choice but blew it. Took my car in for a check up since it has high mileage & was planning a road trip. Made my appointment time & once they looked at it, a person (no sure of name, but stocky w/ red hair) told me everything was fine except the brakes were shot. It would be $1000. I was thinking to myself that my last oil change my report from Ford told me my brakes were in the green which means they are ok, but this was 2-3 months ago so maybe they deteriorated quickly. I didn't get the best feeling from this particular pep boys while I was waiting as the few employees were talking loudly about how rude a customer was & how they made them wait longer. The gentleman that spoke to me was cursing & is definitely not the most polished customer facing employee. Once I told him that I was not going to get the brakes today he told me "your car will not make the roadtrip to PA". Anyways this appointment was about two weeks ago; (I'm safe and sound from that road-trip) today I got the brakes checked just to clear my conscience right down the street at Park Street Auto in downtown Montclair right off Bloomfield ave near the YMCA.I was told that my brakes were fine & to have them checked in the fall. They were actually searching for what pep boys saw & then gave my car a test drive to see if that gave them any clues as to why I was told I needed all new brakes. I'm so happy for this honest auto repair shop & thankful I trusted my gut instinct & did not allow this pep boys location to replace brakes that had nothing wrong with them. Amazing how dishonest & crooked some folks are. I could tell they were insanely busy and Larry was working furiously to keep up with everything. I usually frequent my dealership for service and repairs but on several occasions the good staff at this pep boys found issues that my dealership either completely dismissed or downplayed. Need a tire for car. When went there they gave me a story about all tires needing to be changed because of awd in my car. Back tires were like new. Also told me I needed brake pads n rotors. I agreed to two new tires. When they went to put tire on they realize rim was cracked at the base. The crack was about 1inch. Told me I need new rim. 389.00 Didn't tell me I could get it weld. Everything about this visit was a lie. Taking advantage of a female customer. Rim 125 to fix. Two tires did need to be replaced. Brakes another 12 to 15 thousand miles before I need them to be done. Be careful if u go there. They are honest about the work that needs to be done. Will never go there again read more
