But I remembered having a good experience there before, so I decided to take the longer route and come in from Bloomfield Avenue, even though it meant driving through Montclair. I'm really glad I did. From the moment I walked in, the customer service was excellent. The waiting area was clean, bright, and comfortable. There was a slight tire smell, as expected, but nothing overwhelming. I did not have an appointment. I explained that my tire was low and suspected a nail. I was told the wait would be about 45 minutes, so I settled in. To my surprise, within about 15 minutes, I was told my car was next, and just 10 minutes later, the repair was done. It turned out to be a nail, which they quickly and efficiently fixed. The best part--there was no charge. That level of honesty and customer care is rare. I left a tip for the service team and went on my way, extremely satisfied. I'm very glad I chose to go out of my way to return. This is what great customer service looks like.

Let's get straight to the point!!! I live in Easton, PA boarder line of NJ APPROX. 48 MIN.Drive to…read morework at EWR airport. I know about this particular "Pep boys" in Roselle, NJ because my wife and I used to live in Elizabeth NJ. NOW!!! My wife and I had some business to take care of in Elizabeth, NJ; So I made an appointment for that particular "Pep Boys" at 711 E 1st Ave, Roswell, NJ 07203. First, I called and spoke with someone early that morning at approximately, 10:17 am on the morning of 12/18/2025 to make an appointment. I explained that I had already purchased the parts to make the necessary repairs on my vehicle. I was told by a male employee of that particular "Pep Boys" that I was good to come in for the engine mount replacements. I asked for an estimate first because my particular vehicle has 3 mounts. So I asked for a general price for service because, again I had already obtained the parts. The "Pep Boys" employee gave me an estimate which was too high to have all three mounts done so, I asked what was the estimated price for labor to have two mounts done he stated $375 along with the estimated time the job would take which was approximately 2.5 hrs. I call back before I get there because I'm running late. I spoke with a female employee and explained the situation as far as, me already having the parts attempting to save money. My wife and I drop the car off come to find out the woman I was speaking to on the phone was the manager at that particular "Pep boys" so she's telling me the gentleman that I had spoken with earlier was not there. I explained to the female manager the price her employee quoted to me on the phone. She proceded to quote a whole different price to me which was extremely higher than the labor cost previously given to me. So I stated just change the main motor mount then. "PLEASE" The time was approximately 1:30 pm, could've be 2 pm. She calls me to the work area at about 3:30 pm possibly 3:45 pm to tell me that I would have to leave my car there because her/"Pep Boys" mechanic couldn't get the bolts off because the vehicle was an older vehicle so instead of notifying me the customer of the problem though I'm sitting right there in the waiting area mind you; she also had my cell number. I'm assuming her being the manager approved the mechanic to go ahead and burn the bolts of with a welding torch. The problem she/"Pep Boys" created though was parts of the bolts were now stuck and she's telling me they would have to drill new holes into my cars engine mount brackets and by the way didn't know what size bolts would fit. I'm like OKAY! You all have four hours left on your work schedule. I have a 13 year old daughter at home alone in PA, my wife has medical issues not to mention we weren't planning on having to stay out for the night so I also didn't have my blood pressure medication or cholesterol pills. Now!, as far as not knowing the size of the bolts to replace. I would assume if you type in the Year, Make and model of the car the specs. For the vehicle should come up! THANK GOD! I had just gotten paid even though I had to use some of our holiday funds for a Lyft and hotel for me and my wife for the night OOOCUH but she was cold and shaking out while we waited for the Lyft not to mention though I was worried about my 13 yr old being at home alone. If you are a parent especially a mother you can imagine what she was going through psychologically. I also had another issue to be worried about like GOD FORBID!!! My vehicle is broken into or if anything is missing out of our car whose going to be held responsible for it! In conclusion, I would respectfully advise corporate to advise their managers to be more transparent other than basically saying SHIT! Happens and even though "Pep Boys" caused the issues there's nothing we can do to help you in this unexpected situation and we won't charge you for the (BOLTS).

This place is the shadiest place ever. First I want to mention that my mother in law has come here…read morefrequently to get new tires, oil changes and maintenance. But after today no more. My mother in law came here to have a technician check over her car because she was hearing noises whenever she would brake and was worried about driving it. This guy comes back with a laundry list of ridiculous things that he claims she "needs" and then when she realizes that half the stuff he is saying is wrong with the car is ridiculous and the amount he was going to charge for new brakes was robbery, she declined to get any work done but said she would come back for new tires and possibly brakes, which was true she just didn't want to spend over $600 on bullshit. Well after the guy found out she wasn't going to have any work done that day he charged her $63 for looking over the car and claimed that people don't "do that for free anymore". Well fuck you very much? I've been to Little Falls Gas down the road from here when I've had issues with my tire. The mechanic took my tire off my car, plugged it, checked it over and changed me nothing. I gave him a $20 bill for his trouble and I've gone back ever since. That is good business. Not this shady place. It's one thing to charge someone $63 to look over the car, it's quite another to do it by blindsiding someone and never disclosing that fee from the get go. Nope nope nope. If you want to save yourself a lot of trouble and go somewhere that's trustworthy then go somewhere else.

They also chipped the protective coating off my rim, which is now spreading, when they put the tire on and said they couldn't do anything to fix it, and they didn't put the valve stem cap back on. I had an issue with this place a few years ago with over charging me when I took my company car in for routine maintenance. My fleet company actually called me and said not to take it there anymore because the prices were inconsistent. I gave them another chance which was a mistake.

I took my truck in because my engine light came on. They told me that the catalytic converter and…read moreoxygen sensors needed to be replaced. The original estimate was approximately $2900 and the final bill was higher($3070). I missed two days for work due to wrong parts, them not being able to get a bolt off. When I finally got my car back the engine light came on and my transmission was shot. The car never had prior transmission problems at all. When I sent them the info that using heat by the transmission can cause damage they dismissed it. I had to junk the car for $500. The worst car repair experience I ever had. I never took a car to get a major repair like this and had the car run much worse. I will never go back. Buyer beware with these guys.

I initially chose this shop for a snow tire installation because they were able to fit me in…read morequickly and had high-end equipment. This used to be Euro Tire which I used previously for various things with no issues. Unfortunately, what began as a simple service resulted in over $1,000 in damages and a complete lack of accountability. After picking up my car, I discovered the wheel bolts had been severely over-torqued. I returned within 30 min, and a technician confirmed they were stuck, stating he was "uncomfortable" proceeding at closing time. I took the car home and dropped it off the following morning as they said they will take care of it. The next day, multiple lug nuts were stuck which required drilling of the studs to remove them. The shop broke at least 4 lug nuts in half trying to remove them and the 2 wheels were stuck on the car. During the extraction process, the shop drilled through the wheel itself rather than just the studs. Put the wheel back on and said it was all done. I once again checked when I got home and discovered the wheel was drilled into and 2 of 5 lug nuts on one wheel were not holding. This rendered the wheel structurally compromised and unsafe for road use. Despite previously admitting the bolts were over-torqued, the management changed their story once they realized the extent of the damage. When I confronted them about the ruined wheel, they blamed me for the over-torquing--despite the fact that they were the last ones to touch the vehicle. While they refunded the initial labor cost, I am now out approximately $1,000 for a replacement wheel and hardware.
