Asked three times, finally begged for silverware and this is what we were handed.

Terrible service. Maybe the worst. I only leave yelp reviews that are 4 or 5 stars. I never leave negative reviews. These two stars are for the kitchen crew only. The hostess was nice. She was also serving tables and I wish we had her. There were a total of nine occupied tables in the entire restaurant with three servers. We had to ask for water. We didn't get silverware or napkins until after our appetizer and only when I literally begged the man who brought our entrees. I will share a pic, but it was a handful of silverware just on a random napkin. One app arrived after entrees. My husband sat with no drink at all until after he finished his meal. My first cocktail was fine and timely, the second arrived after my meal looking nothing at all like the first and the server said "the bartender made it right this time". The food was decent. Not bad, but nothing great. They messed up the side item and seemed irritated when we nicely asked for the onion rings that we had ordered. They are an upcharge...which is fine...but didn't arrive until almost the end of the meal. Wings were fine. Bisque was fishy with no pieces of lobster. Fried shrimp was fine. Unsure about the slaw because we didn't have a fork. Ketchup poured out like water. Burger was fine. My daughter is a server, so I never complain about service. It is a hard job. We are always super nice and don't bother them. This service was just so bad. This is unfortunate because we really wanted to give a five star review to "up" their rating. The owner needs to get control of this immediately. The kitchen staff and hostess are doing their jobs, but the service is killing them.

Great view, sub par brunch. Recently visited Stripers while in the area for Brunch. I opted for the brunch buffet as it seemed tasty on paper. My party arrived a little before 2pm due to the weird walk around to access Stripers because of the street food festival. Now to the drink and food. My party was super excited to try the mimosa flight. It had several flavors: peach, passionfruit, watermelon and orange. The orange and passionfruit was the best. The peach and watermelon was far too sweet. Maybe juice instead of puree? The buffet...30.00 for all you can eat. It came with the standard bacon, eggs(seasonless), sausage, salmon, sliders, steamed shrimp and a roasted beef, waffles, and stuffed French toast. There was supposed to be salad but, there was none. We were informed there was no more and there was no plan to replenish. The beef was good but, it was down to the end. So I only got 2 pieces of the butt of the meat. That too was not replenished. The Salmon was very under done. I think the intention was that the sternos would slow cook it but, it didn't. They did re-fire some salmon. The second round was better. I basically had steam shrimp, eggs and bacon for the price. Those are the only items I ate. The best thing about brunch was the 2.00 mimosas. Strong and boozy, though I didn't like the cafeteria mini glasses they were served in. I'd probably not patronize again for brunch but, the regular menu did have some seemingly good picks. I'd also only visit during a non festival day. SYOY!

    Broken lobster bisque
    Raymond M.

The place was clean the waitress was excellent. The seafood pasta was ok and tasty but the Lobster Bisque was broken with a ton of butter over the top so your spoon was over half butter with a small amount of broken soup. Also one of the most expensive places for seafood or anything. Only reason 3 stars was the waitress was very good 5 stars. otherwise would give 1.5 stars. Do not recommend and we were there at around 6pm July 10, 2025.

Hot Chocolate Wars I see why they won previous years!! Stopped by for Hot Chocolate as part of the Hot Chocolate Wars the restaurant was decorated in my favorite theme so already that puts them a few stars ahead of the rest!! Grinch is one of my favorite characters!! The team was very happy and pleasant!! They were really fun and friendly!! The hot chocolate was delicious and when you opt to add a shot of liquor it makes it even better!! Congratulations on previous years championships I was really hoping you would win again!!

    Crab Cake

The waiter was amazing, but the crab cake was nothing but filler maybe 2/3 pieces of crab meat. Everyone else enjoyed their meals at my table but I was kinda disappointed :(

Everyone and their mamas has recommended Stripers and we finally booked a reservation over the phone for Valentine's day. We got to the restaurant and the host couldn't find our reservation, so that was fun. Our waitress was nice & showed us the Valentines menu they had that day. We ordered the tuna sashimi for our apps & honestly, I was pretty disappointed. The tuna had great flavor but it was a little tricky to cut through. Oh! & the rice -- COLD. It was cold & undercooked. I took a bite & had to spit it out. Not sure if it was suppose to be cold & hard but i definitely didn't enjoy that. I loved the pairing of the tuna & ginger so I'll give it that. For our entrees, I got the salmon with crab & my husband got the surf and turf. My salmon was okay & I personally think the crab was a little overwhelming so I had to push it to the side. Hubby enjoyed his steak but wasn't too crazy about the veggies. The place had such a romantic vibe & the view was gorgeous, I just wish the food was a little better for what we paid for.

Oyster were hot, fresh, and tasted great. If you like saltines, you just have to ask.

They are just reopening with a new menu and staff. The food was fantastic, fresh Oysters Rockefeller, Crab Stuffed Flounder, Steak were all on the menu. If you're a fan of German beer (Hofbrau) in a frosted mug, they have that too. Parking across the street was easy. We were seated outside with views of the water. There is a lot of seating inside as well. We enjoyed the food and atmosphere, much better than the night before (Admirals at River Casino). The Oysters and seafood were more enjoyable, and my wife liked the house red much more than Admirals. Value for the $$ was very good IMO.

The price point is high, but you are downtown and on the water. It is to be expected. However, they have a lovely patio by the water, the service was friendly, and our food was good. It wasn't anything that blew you away, but it was cooked well. I do think having paper napkins at this price point is a bit off. I got an oyster poboy that came with fries. The fries were a bit salty but crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The oysters were cooked perfectly. It was a good sandwich, on a lovely patio, on a beautiful day. It was within walking distance of my hotel, and it hit all the spots.

Sarah was amazing, super funny, very helpful. Food was great, the fire pit outside was clutch. Definitely will be back!

Jamal bar service friendly and exceptional. He hustles making drinks and still providing great service. Food shared shrimp taco 1 each with spicy bam bam sauce. Sauce had a kick. Overall recommend. Ambiance is large with outdoor seating.

Let me say this was my 1st time going back since the reopening. I called around 11 am and asked if they could accommodate a party 13. They happily agreed and called me back to confirm. The decor, oh my goodness, too cute! The ambiance is still charming and relaxing. We were all seated and began ordering. My fiancée ordered three dozen oysters. 2 raw and 1 dozen fried. A few more appetizers were ordered. So, the appetizers come to the table. One dozen raw, one dozen steamed, and one dozen fried. No worries. We will send the steamed one back and get it raw. That took over an hour to correct, and I had to ask for a manager. Then the entrees were ordered, and everyone ordered something ranging from stuffed founder and pasta dishes to tacos. For the most part, everyone agreed that the food was good once you got it. Because of the excessive wait time, the Server told us that the Manager would adjust our bills. When we went to pay the tab once you scanned it, it was significantly higher than the server's printed version. The Server explained that someone was behind the scenes changing the bills, and she wasn't sure what to do. Her manager offered no explanation or assistance but continued avoiding us as we tried to close our tabs and leave. Overall, I like this restaurant. This evening was just a bit different from previous visits.

When it comes to restaurants, Waterside is pretty interesting. We walked around and decided on Stripers for a quick meal before seeing Christmas lights. It was about a 10 minute wait as I assume they were opening a different area to seat us. My mimosa was good and my fish sandwich was large! Fries absolutely amazing. One of my sauces had an entire hair in it that made me frown, but everything else was good enough to fill my hunger.

Atmosphere was relaxing and sunset dinner is the business! Bacon wrapped scallops Appetizer was savory and good. Tuna Steak Appetizer was also very good. Mango Cart Beer was so very good. None of the food was out-of-this world. Standard good food. Service was ok. I'd be back for the beer selection and maybe if I was in the mood for some fried seafood.

They immediately sent the tone of a quiet comfortable environment. Quick service with both drink and food. The food itself was less than stellar. I had the happy hour coconut, shrimp, and chicken tenders on one night, and they were mediocre at best served lukewarm. I wouldn't really order either dish again, truth be told. Unfortunately, the service in the restaurant portion itself was quite wanting, slow and unattended. We had a member of our party, joined late and didn't see the server again until she was delivering our meals, which was when our friend got to order. Unfortunately, once again, the food was lackluster. We were staying at the hotel for the week, so we did try this place a few times. Again, the Bar staff was fantastic and the drinks were quite good, but the food was just not special. Yes, by chance, if we stayed at this hotel again. I would definitely give the restaurant another shot just to see if it was a one off with staffing. And the food was by no means terrible, it was adequate.

To my surprise they had a board outside the door featuring weekly details. I did further research online and saw HH! I love love to try anyone's happy hour (HH) especially if food and drinks are offered. I'm thrilled to let you know this place has food and spirits, including: beer, wine and liquor! Yessss!! Reservations made and suggested. While we arrived at 4:00pm on a Saturday there was no wait but guests started to fill up the downstairs area quickly so to be safe make reservations. However the bar was wide open. Seated about 8. The space may sit 50 people comfortably including a full bar area. HH takes place 4 to 6pm, Wed thru Saturday I believe. Starting at 5pm you can order from the dinner menu. My husbae wanted dinner so we stayed until. He tried the shrimp burger with handcut fries. HH, we tried most of the food: Honey old bay wings Salmon bites Grilled shrimp Handcut fries Lemon drop Old fashioned First off, I love love handcut fries and Ordinaire yall made my tummy happy!! We ordered like 3 plates. Overload but totally worth every carb! Everything was good! Pack your patience because I believe everything is made to order. As a result your items may hit the table one entree at a time. IMO this was great pacing and gave us time to try and savor each appetizer without the temperature turning cold. My drinks including my husbae crown and sweet tea were on point. He wanted Sprite but it was unavailable. Nevertheless we will return soon! Parking wasn't an issue as we found free street parking steps from the restaurant. But Parking garages are nearby as well. Overall 10/10 Have fun and enjoy life :)

My wife and I took advantage of Norfolk's Restaurant Week to enjoy a romantic evening, coupled with great service from a very attentive waiter. $45 each for a 3-course meal in a intimate cozy dark setting with great jazz music in the background. 1st course, she had the marvelous She Crab Bisque, especially the hint of sherry. Perfect. I enjoyed the four Fried Oysters, Fried flawlessly without the bivalves becoming rubbery. 2nd course, my wife enjoyed the Peri-Peri Chicken Penne. The breast of chicken was moist throughout, not dry. The penne pasta with the Romesco Cream Sauce was very creamy and delicious says my better half. I tried the Fried Catfish. A bed of creamy Grits; then some Braised Collards stewed perfectly with a surprise - pieces of Ham Hock meat imbedded - on top of the Grits; then on the very top a perfectly fried huge piece of Catfish filet with Key Lime Remoulade sauce on the side. I visited a Hampton Roads Restaurant group on FB and asked if someone was visiting from out of town: What is your go-to place to take them? Out of 90+ comments, No Frill Bar and Grill was mentioned the most - six times! So when I finally had a day off and some other business to tend to in Norfolk, it was the perfect excuse to finally try them. No Frill Bar and Grill has been open for nearly 30 years by Jerry Meltsner. Jerry's nephew Jon Kliner helps co-own and manage operations. It originally opened on Tidewater Drive, but the space didn't allow for much growth - 10 years later, he moved to a location off Colley Avenue and Spotswood Avenue. Growth continued, moving from counter service to table service. The second location, at 1620 Laskin Road in Virginia Beach, opened in 2005. The restaurant's longevity stems from quality, consistency, price, service, and staff who genuinely care about the business and serving the community. I asked the server for her opinion on two options - Salmon, Shrimp and grits won. The dish was incredible: lightly blackened salmon, for once blackened food that doesn't just taste like salt. I don't dine with the swine, so I asked for no andouille sausage. The sautéed shrimp, caramelized onions, tomatoes, and spinach simmered in Norfolk Canyon ale sauce over cheesy grits and Boursin lavash cracker. The cheesy grits were smooth, and the Boursin lavash cracker was a nice touch. The Boursin added extra creaminess to the meal. The cracker wasn't really a cracker - more like little toasted bread. After this first meal, I know two things for sure: 1. I definitely understand why it is such a local favorite, and 2. I will be back.

The service is always great and the hosts/servers are always friendly. Our go to is the meatloaf. when you're looking for a good ol' comfort food - that's the best. They also have amazing desserts that are worth a try. We found this restaurant good for families (including our toddler)! Food was toddler approved!
