I recently brought in a guitar of mine to get a vibrola installed on it along with some fret work and a new nut , I told him how I wanted it to play and he delivered big time . I recently bought a Fender precision bass and wanted to get pick-up and bridge covers installed. In order to keep the warranty, I had to get them installed at an authorized Fender servicer. There aren't too many of them in my area, and the one closer to me was charging way too much. This place is a bit out of my way but the price I was quoted was much better than the other place, so I decided to check it out. I made the appointment with Jerry, who seems to be the main person here. Since I live far away, he was able to accommodate me by getting it done in less than an hour. It was a fairly simple job of just drilling some holes on the bass and installing the covers, but I appreciated his willingness to work with my schedule. The work was clean and didn't see any dings or scratches on my new bass. I've been to some places in the past where I found all kinds of scratches afterward. If I'm in the area again, I am going to bring some of my other guitars and basses for a basic set-up. I found Stringed Instrument Services on Yelp after I made the decision to start playing guitar again-- I needed to get my 20 year old Fender Telecaster repaired, tuned up, set up, and just overhauled in terms of playability in addition to making sure the electronics were working properly. It had been sitting in storage and just needed some very serious TLC. Jerry was super personable, friendly, and answered all of my questions and did an amazing job. He was a little backed up with other jobs and it took about two weeks, but the vibe of this shop and Jerry's approach was something I respected a lot. About six months later, I asked Jerry if he could help me build my pedalboard, route power to all of the pedals, and do some custom layout work. They don't normally do stuff with pedalboards, but I was so impressed with his work on my guitar that I begged if he would be able to get my pedalboard built. He agreed and again it took about 2 weeks, but it came out amazing. Jerry is the dude to take your guitar or amp to. Went to the shop to restring my electric guitar. I was trying to learn tuning but snapped the high E string in the process. The rest of people working there were on a tradeshow so only one man was in the shop. Being inside the shop, it seems to be not an ordinary run on the mill shop but a crafters' work area. It's like they treat their work as a craft not a job. The man who was there is friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. Dropped my guitar off for restringing and basic setup. There are parking spots. Newbie friendly place. I will definitely be returning to have them do a basic setup and possibly restring my backup guitar. read more

My husband took our son's guitar here to fix buzzing on multiple strings. Jerry promptly adjusted the truss rod as much as it could be adjusted, but it turns out the neck was defectively straight. Luckily, the guitar was still under the manufacturer's warranty and Jerry was well versed at working with the manufacturer to get the replacement parts. I struggled to find the receipt for my guitar, but Jerry reminded me that the store I purchased the guitar from can retrieve the receipt and e-mail it to me. In short, Jerry handled all the paperwork and effort involved in submitting a warranty claim with the manufacturer, and fixed my son's guitar with no effort on my part. The guitar sounds great now! TL;DR: damaged guitar, refused refund, had to issue chargeback. 11/2/2019: I just got my first guitar back from Stringed Instrument Services and I won't be bringing any more back. I dropped off a 25+ year old Fender Telecaster for a fret level and new nut as the old nut was way too low and the frets were buzzy. This was over two weeks ago and it just came back with black tool marks up and down the maple fretboard, damage to the neck pickup cover, and the nut is almost as low as the one it was supposed to replace. It is glaringly obvious that whoever rushed the fret leveling wasn't paying attention and let the sanding beam sand right over the top corner of my Tele's neck pickup cover. This quality of work is completely untenable and I called SIS immediately upon returning home to request a refund and was told by an employee over the phone that "they don't do refunds" but I could bring the guitar back to "make it right". I was also told I could discuss it with Jerry, the owner, when the shop opens the following business day. 11/5/2019: I just finished speaking with the owner, Jerry Bizon, over the phone who refused to refund my money and refused to look at the photos of the damage I had posted. Instead, he insisted that I bring the guitar in and leave it with him again for two more weeks so that he could "fix it". I told Jerry I didn't feel comfortable leaving my guitar with him again and he told me that was the only option. Additionally, Jerry told me that he was the one who personally worked on my Telecaster which I was shocked to hear. In 15+ years of playing guitar I have never seen a luthier perform such negligent work and then so adamantly refuse to be held accountable for it. I had to call my bank to issue a chargeback for the $200+ Jerry charged me for damaging my favorite guitar. Myself, my guitar playing friends(including the coworker who recommended Jerry to me initially), and my students will avoid Jerry and Stringed Instrument Services in perpetuity. read more

Jerry at SIS does great work. I brought him a partscaster strat that I put together after I found out the trem routing was way too small for the trem block. He routed the cavity and repainted it to match the rest of the body. Really beautiful work, and such a great person to deal with. He also replaced my crappy trem claw with a nice one for just a couple of bucks and even threw in a pickguard screw that I lost somehow. I took my brand new Charvel USA to three different guitar tech's to figure out why the guitar neck buzzes so much. Within 10 seconds Jerry knew the neck was defective. No one else even mentioned that the truss rod might not be working properly. He took care of the Fender Warranty and got me a new neck and set up the guitar PERFECTLY. I am a return customer. This time, Jerry replaced the existing humbucker pickups on my Schecter guitar with a Seymour Duncan Hotrodded set and installed a push/pull pot giving the split coil option. Brought my amp there to fix my reverb which sporadically worked (as I told them). Before I brought it in I accidentally reversed the two cables.. They charged me over $30 to reverse the cables! When he showed me it worked, he got lucky and it worked (because as I had told them, it sometimes worked). I brought it home, it worked for a day and then the same problem. I entered the store very unsure because I've never been there before, and my guitar is my baby, so I get nervous putting her into new hands. My usual guy is in the hospital and my baby needed some help bad, so I was desperate. But when I came in, I was showered with figurative daisies of love and kindness and my guitar sang a symphony of joyful comfort. I was greeted by a man whose armpits smelled of blessed children and Jesus (metaphorical, not the way he would have ACTUALLY smelled which would be dirty). I was blinded with psychedelic wonderment when he told me about his great deals, which were completed with stunning punctuality. I was crying silent tears of joy by the end of my visit, and my baby whispered sweet nothings to me as we parted, assuring me that she was in good, capable hands, and that she must enjoy her time there as wholly as possible. All in all, this place is pretty polka-dotted cotton candy, which is good. Really good. The only down side? Lack of Shaq posters. read more
