He asked what I needed, and I explained that my acoustic guitar had a broken peg tuner. I already had the replacement part with me, so I handed it over. Instead of jumping straight into recommendations or upselling, he immediately tried to fix it on the spot. Once he confirmed it was repairable, he quickly cut the string, replaced the tuner, and got everything back in place. The whole process took less than 10 minutes! I live in Carson, so driving out to Lakewood and getting it fixed the same day was such a relief. This guitar isn't for professional use--it's for my daughter who's just starting to learn--so having it ready right away saved me a lot of time and hassle. He even tuned it by ear in seconds, which was really impressive. Overall, a smooth and pleasant experience. I really appreciated the quick, no-nonsense service and would definitely come back again for future repairs!

The gentleman who helped us, (who I assume is the owner) took the time to properly measure my daughter for the correct size intrument as well as went over proper care. I recently renewed the instrument rental and it was so quick and easy. My daughter was even remeasured to make sure she has the correct size instrument. I was also told that if she happens to have a growth spurt, we can come back and change the size of the instrument at no additional charge. Payment is through Venmo or Zelle.

The instrument we were given was determined by the music program's director and assistant to be, instead, a violin. I obtained a third opinion at Encore Music, and was informed by the teacher there as well that the instrument we had been given is (i.e., was strung as) a violin. I brought it back today for a refund of pro-rated rental fee (from what I had paid upfront). Note that I asked the assistant at the store to identify the instrument for me before telling him the problem; he identified it as a violin. When I explained the reason for the return, he then said that it is a viola, and brought it to the proprietor, who insisted that it was a viola all along. I insisted on the return, but they did not refund me the tax I pre-paid, and also charged me for a full 3 months' payment instead of the 2.5 months it has been. Overall, this has been a frustrating waste of time and money. There are many other options for instrument rentals in the area and I recommend you use a different one.

At no point during the transaction did anyone clearly explain how their pricing works, what margin they typically apply, or what my guitar might realistically sell for on the used market. Had I been given that information, I would have made a more informed decision or at least understood the trade-off between convenience and payout. The issue here isn't just the resale price--it's the lack of full disclosure. Customers deserve transparency when they're selling valuable gear, especially when there's such a significant gap between the buy price and resale price. Overall, the experience left me feeling like I wasn't given the full picture. I would strongly recommend that anyone selling gear here do their own research beforehand and ask very specific questions about resale value and pricing structure before agreeing to a deal.

As of 12/10/14, my thoughts about Vez Guitar Academy remains the same. I started out as a complete newbie half a year ago and have only the best to say about Dave as an instructor and a person. Dave teaches you to think while playing the guitar and not simply rely on rote memory. Because of this, I have learned songs, chords, and scales despite not practicing as much as I should. He shows how chords and scales are related, which makes finding scales on the guitar much easier to do. On the practical side, he has his students practice drills that build strength and flexibility in your fingers (especially the pinky and ring finger) that make going up and down the fretboard easy. Dave's also a fantastic person. He's approachable and humorous--I always have a good laugh during sessions. Best of all, he makes learning the guitar fun and manageable, even when I am struggling. Even when I'm faced with challenging material, I don't feel discouraged or anxious because Dave helps me get through it thoroughly, bit by bit. Oh, and if you miss a session or need to re-schedule, tell him and he will accomodate you when he can. I have changed time slots three times already and missed a session or two, and he was always very friendly about re-scheduling. If you, as a potential student, prefer an instructor who is more of a taskmaster with set and rigid lesson plans, then Dave is not for you. He is an instructor for those who truly wants to learn guitar on their terms and are willing to use some brain power to do it. He caters the sessions to you, so when you are having difficulties with a certain scale or a particular song, he will guide you through with various approaches until you master it. When faced with new materials, I don't feel discouraged or overwhelmed because Dave helps me learn it bit by bit and thoroughly. My experience with Dave so far has been stellar. I am getting my money's worth with his help in becoming the best guitar player I can possibly be, and having a good time doing so. read more

There aren't too many of them in my area, and the one closer to me was charging way too much. This place is a bit out of my way but the price I was quoted was much better than the other place, so I decided to check it out. I made the appointment with Jerry, who seems to be the main person here. Since I live far away, he was able to accommodate me by getting it done in less than an hour. It was a fairly simple job of just drilling some holes on the bass and installing the covers, but I appreciated his willingness to work with my schedule. The work was clean and didn't see any dings or scratches on my new bass. I've been to some places in the past where I found all kinds of scratches afterward. If I'm in the area again, I am going to bring some of my other guitars and basses for a basic set-up. Please note that this place is by appointment only, and you can't wait inside the shop while they work. The door is kept locked (for a good reason). You need to knock on the door to enter.
