Well, sometimes you get what you pay for. Matt was the lowest bid of 3, not by a whole lot, but he was hired to remove one tree for a set price on a set day. After arranging with tenants to clear a parking area of cars, he no showed and said he didn't get confirmation from me, which was not true. Then we rescheduled and he showed up nearly 3 hours late without warning or notice he would be late. He was rude to my resident manager, left a pile of debris in the middle of the parking lot instead of in the adjacent field and didn't cone it off after I requested for the safety of my tenants. The next day Matt repeatedly demanded payment before he was finished, and did so with many 4 letter words and yelling, the most unprofessional company I have ever hired to do anything. Instead of cutting the tree flush to the ground he left a 2' high, 3' wide trunk which I now have to remove. He didn't leaf blow the roof like he promised. All around this was a terrible experience and Matt didn't seem to care. I would NEVER use this guy / company again. read more

We've used Strictly Trees a few times in the past so called them for some more work. The owner came out and gave us a bid, but it wasn't the old owner - Mary (I think that was her name) had sold the company to one of her employees. The day before the work was to be done we get a call to reschedule due to rain - which was fine with us. But then they never showed...and never returned any phone calls... (If you read the other negative Yelp reviews you'll see there is a "no show / doesn't return calls" theme.) We're now looking for another company to service our trees. read more

Strictly trees is a company I would recommend to anyone. They were there to provide an estimate the same day I called, leaving me with options and a reasonable estimate. He (Matt) was SUPER friendly and knowledgeable about the tree in question and left me feeling comfortable about what needed to be done. Once back to do the work they were fast, quiet as possible and very conscientious regarding my home and dogs. I hired this company to remove a decaying and dangerous tree from my summer house. They quoted me $625. They arrived prepared only to climb the tree (no bucket truck - they don't even own one). When the cutter gets up the tree, he tells me he can't climb out on the limb because it's decayed. Really! That's why I called them in the first place. They tell me they need to rent a lift and this will cost me $350 more. Now stuck with a tree that is half limbed, I agree. We set the appointment for the following Saturday. They don't typically work on Saturday. But, they agreed to because of the problems the first day. Second trip up, I meet with the cutter who immediately asks me where the lift is. I remind him that the logistics of the equipment is not my responsibility. Seems the company they were renting from dropped the ball (we won't talk about the fact that Strictly Trees should have confirmed - never their fault!). He then tells me the job won't be done that day because they have other appointments and won't be able to find a lift and get it out to the site in time. I remind him they are working on Saturday because of this job! However, that had no effect on him. And, once again, I wasted a trip up there just to find they couldn't make good on the job. Having already made two trips up there (150 miles round trip) I gave up on them. Mary, the owner, then threatened to put a lien on my house if I did not pay her for the portion of the job they did. She first agreed to $100 (she didn't deserve anything - just wanted to get her off my back without a lien), then reneged on that and demanded $275. I was forced to pay her and had to take her to court to get the money back. The judge ruled she was in breach of contract and awarded me all but the $100 we had originally agreed on. During this whole process, Mary was an extremely rude and belligerent individual. I then re-bid the job. When I described what had happened with the previous company (I never mentioned them by name) 3 of the 4 companies knew exactly who I was talking about. Seems strictly trees has quite a reputation in the industry up there! I hired Empire Tree Service. They arrived the same day (with a bucket truck) and removed the tree in about 30 minutes for $350. Strictly trees was going to charge me $975 by the time I rented their equipment for them. VERY unethical and unprofessional company. I have notified Diamond Certified and forwarded all the info, to include the e-mails in which Mary tells me to get a f&*#ing life (only she filled in the letters - quite a lady!). I was told by Diamond Certified that this is not behavior they condone and they will be issuing her a warning as to that fact. This company is a disaster. They obviously have such little regard for customer service that they will go to this extent over the $275 they wanted to recover. They were clearly in breach of contract and should have stepped up and did the right thing. However, that's not in their job description! read more

I was nervous calling for a consultation on an enormous redwood but the representative that came to visit concluded that the tree was healthy and needed only minimal maintenance and warned against overworking it. It wasn't a very lucrative job for them for sure, but they earned my loyalty with their trustworthiness. read more

Retained them to cut a dozen small oaks on a slope. Cutting went well enough BUT they left down wood on the slope promised to cut the stumps to the ground and left them 2 feet proud never returned a promised to apply poison to the stumps so they would not sprout (they have all sprouted wildly!) wont return calls These guys are in my view immature, unprofessional, dishonest and they lied! These guys did a fantastic and professionally-superior job in an adverse location at my house. They worked into the dark to get the project done, and came back out the next day to clean up thoroughly. My wife was delighted when she arrived home and EVERYTHING was clean and the trees healthy and trimmed well. THey used a large crane to thin 2 huge cypress trees above my garage and the neighbors yard. they know their stuff! I will use them again and cant reccomend them more highly! Jonathan read more

I heard about Strictly trees from a friend and called for an estimate. I found the owner- Mathew to be very professional and knowledgeable. We had another bid on the same tree work and I was much more comfortable with the explanation and level of experience that Mathew provided. I also was happy to know that he would be doing the work himself- with an employee. ( We discovered our other prospective tree company had a separate person bid the job and a completely different person come do the work.) When it came to doing the job- Mathew did great work and delivered on his promises and was even able to do a bid on a separate job and advise us as to when the best time of year to do this would be- for the integrity and life of the tree- I love that this seems to be a priority for him and his company. I was quoted over the phone probably 2 hours for a job that I'd started and needed help with to finish pruning and clean up on my Russian River cottage property. Matthew showed up and was out the door in 1 hour. What a polite, caring, strong, good values, hard working and a wonderful man. Finished the pruning that was too difficult for me, carried 4x what I could carry to his truck and had finished the job I started. Branches were all over the place. Matt is such a nice man and we believe he knows his work but have had difficulty with scheduling and call backs.

Had them out for an estimate, explained how certain branches were critical in providing privacy from our neighbors looking into our yard. The neighbor also wanted some removal of branches from our tree to facilitate her "view". After multiple explanations, looking at branches from all different angles from our yard, the crew and supervisor proceeded to go to my neighbor's home, and at HER direction, cut off 6 -8 ft of the heritage oak tree, leaving it disproportioned and "hacked" and then proceeded to remove the very branches that we had discussed as providing the screening and privacy for OUR yard. I think they were NOT working for my interests, even tho I am the one PAYING for the "service". Nor did they help the poor, now lopsided, oak tree. Thanks for ruining my yard. My neighbor is certainly pleased with your "service". I however, am NOT!!! Hard to believe someone in your business cannot envision things better than they did! read more

I'm VERY happy with Matt at Strictly Trees. I've had him back two years for a fast growing tree and a front hedge that thinks it's a tree. Out back, I was greatful for his advice about a tree my neighbor wanted topped (trying to keep the peace, you know). But Matt said if we topped it, it would it would grow out dozens of sprouts from the cut, like a crazy haircut. So instead we trimmed some branches. I have recommended Matt to two neighbors, and they have both been happy with the quality care. Strictly Trees was great! We asked them to cut down a large pine (since the other half of it fell during a storm.) They removed the tree quickly without any damage to the house or roof that it was standing next to and hanging over. I was impressed. The clean up was excellent too.
