Gwen and Lisa are terrific, and I won't go elsewhere unless they don't have it or can't get it. Regarding other reviewers of children, I've seen nice kids there, but I've also seen Gwen have to interrupt conversation with me to admonish young children to keep their fingers away from the cages/birds cause they WILL BITE. Instead of getting your feelings hurt, shop for an exotic bird pet with children OVER 12, and you should not have an issue. Kids under 12 should stick to parakeets. Love this place! read more

My husband and I have a couple of sugar gliders and bird/cat toys are great for them. We decided to stop in here in hopes of finding some good toys and/or branches for them to play and climb on. The store isn't all that big but they sure have a great assortment of birds. They all looked healthy and definitely well taken cared of. The toy section was decent however t didn't have anything that we were looking. But as I was walking towards the back of the store I found a cubby full of java wood branches. These branches are similar to what you would find at a national pet store like Pet Smart and Petco but these were much larger. Also, the prices were pretty good. We ended up purchasing a couple and our little guys love them. When we walked in the owner was there and greeted us. There were a couple of guys working in the back but they never greeted us or asked us if we needed anything. There was another lady there that was helpful and she was the one that answered any questions we had. Would definitely come back for more toys in the future and maybe a bird someday. read more

We drove three hours because being a bird person, I know that you can't just go anywhere for a good bird. Bird people are different, in a good way :-) and I was impressed with their level of knowledge and their compassion for the birds and their customers. Strictly feathers discriminates against people with children. I have videos of my very well behaved almost 5 yo daughter in this store and they made me very uncomfortable. Everyone who knows my youngest daughter knows that she is a saint. She will not even leave my side without asking for permission first. She is the most gentle, sweet, loving little girl, and GWEN made her cry today. It all started as soon as she walked in and took one look at my daughter. I could tell immediately that she did not want to sell us a bird. We asked if we could see the new baby cockatiels that were advertised on their facebook page, and that we waited months to come see and we were told "No" and that they wouldn't be ready for at least a month and a half and we couldn't even see them. Shortly thereafter however, another couple walked in, and gwen not only showed them the baby birds, but showed them cages, food, accessories, etc. While I stood there looking at the only bird she said was available and it was a white, red eyed cockatiel which she said was $200. My guess is that she was trying to discourage us from buying a bird all together and thought my daughter would be afraid of the bird but she loved it. I wanted to buy but couldn't without first confronting her about what I had just witnessed and making sure she was not in fact discriminating against me and my small child. So I politely confronted her about it, telling her how it made me uncomfortable and then I simply asked her if she did not want to sell me a bird because of my child and she said, "yes." I definitely felt very humiliated in that moment and went on to try to explain to her that I would be the sole caretaker of any pets we have as I am the parent, but felt it was really unessecery that I should even have to do that when purchasing from a place of business. In my opinion, I understand being hesitant to sell an animal to anyone with a small child which is why when I initially noticed her hesitancy I went out of my way to make sure she knew that we had been doing extensive research and that I would be the sole caretaker of our new pet, but it seemed to make no difference to her and she was very rude and unhelpful to the point that I did not feel comfortble adopting. We ended up leaving with my youngest child in tears because she's almost 5 and understood everything gwen said. It was completely uncalled for and tops the list of worst experiences I've ever had in a place of business. There should be a "no children allowed" sign, just to warn parents, save them from humiliation and spare the child's feelings. Also, maybe an application/interview process prior. I would've appreciated and respected that much more than the treatment I received there. Needless to say, we will never be going back and are waiting to adopt in the future, thanks to this horrible experience. read more

I'm a serious bird lover and have a parrot of my own, so when I heard about this place was so excited to go there for my first time! I was totally disappointed with the lack of customer service, meaning the owner known as Gwen! She was very unhelpful and rude! I felt like I was treated as if I were a child and that her eyes wayched me from all angles like I was a criminal of some sorts! I was planning on seeking to buy another parrot but I won't be doing it there! Note to the owner- Treat ALL your customers with great customer service and just maybe you would actually have more clientele! read more

When we moved to Knoxville 4 months ago, I found this great store off Old Broadway. I ventured in with my very well behaved children and we read the rules on a board at the front of the store out loud so all the children could hear. I could feel the eyes of the store owner all over us as well as her single employee. We were not wanted. The owner must have had poorly behaved children in her store in the past. We looked around briefly and left. A couple of weeks later, we went back to admire the store again. Still, the same uneasy feeling of unwantedness, although my children we exemplary. A third time we returned, leaving the 3 year old at home and taking an older child, a friend of my eldest daughter with us. We arrived, read the rules allowed and proceeded about the store. Eyes peered on us. The uneasy feeling returned. Our guest, my daughter's friend stuck a feather into a bird cage while my back was turned. There was nothing in the rules about not sticking feathers into cages. My children new better but the guest made an error. The employee quickly swooped down, fussing and grumbling at the poor child. She told her and my daughter that they new they were doing wrong, but in fact, the little girl had no idea. She is a 10 year old child who was very interested in the birds and made a harmless mistake. I feel for the owner, having to deal with poorly behaved children in her store from time to time, but the unwelcome feeling emitted cannot be excused. I won't be back read more

I have bought 2 birds from Strictly Feathers and I love the owner. She is knowledgable and her birds are healthy and her large birds are bred for pleasant temperament. In regard to the review about unfreindliness toward children, this is an unfaiir assessment. A bird store is no place for chidren who cannot be trusted NOT to stick something--anything--into a cage. Good for the owner. A macaw exerts 600 lbs. of pressure per sq. inch and can easily take off a child's finger. Parrots can exert almost half that pressure and can take off fingers as well. The fact that a feather was stuck into the cage is evidence the kids needed to be watched. Provoking a bird is dangerous and can even impact it's developing termperament toward people. I would recommend Strictly Feathers for anyone looking for birds and bird supplies. If you want to go to a petting zoo for your kids, or even for yourself, this is not the right place to look. If you are interested in buying a bird, however, the owner will be more than happy to train you how to safely and properly handle your potential family member. read more

Went in here a few times just looking, I think it was the owner that was helping me. She was very knowledgeable on birds and there specific needs. I got some really cool large macaw toys for my birds too the prices where pretty good. I brought both my kids with too they love the store and seeing all the birds. I am new in town and will definitely be back for my birds accessories, possibly a new bird too. read more
