I'm a personal trainer who has spent the last 6-7 years in and out of varying gyms. This is one of…read moremy favorites. I've tried warehouse gyms, big box gyms, powerlifting gyms, bodybuilding gyms, you name it.
This gym is great for a lot of reasons and could also be improved in a few ways.
It's not my regular gym- I drop in a few times a year and pay for the week pass. I've never had an issue doing this or being charged extra from the week pass.
Cons: locker rooms need better upkeep, STRONG turf smell, music too loud occasionally (like so loud I can't hear my own music in my earbuds), staff is hard to track down, some rude staff (literally just 1 girl but the rest of the staff has been nothing but super friendly and nice so I'm willing to write it off as a bad day for her).
Pros: lighting is awesome, black walls and murals are awesome, they have posing rooms if you're into bodybuilding, TONS of free weights, powerlifting plates, cable towers, squat racks, benches, and varying machines. Extra equipment (like mats, med balls, kbs, etc.) are lacking, but they have enough to do what you need to do.
Great gym if you're into powerlifting or bodybuilding especially.
They have a supplement store and you can get snacks, shakes, drinks, etc.
Prices are also really good; you could easily spend the same amount on a commercial gym that has 2 squat racks and 200 treadmills.
The community there is SO nice as well.
The biggest pro is that they're not insanely busy like most gyms I've gone to. I can always find a squat rack or cable tower and have never had to wait.
In short, it's a gym worth trying. If it's not your thing, it's not your thing, but it's definitely one of the better gyms I've been to and I'll be coming back every year when I'm in town.
P.S. For what it's worth, I've tried most of the gyms in SA and I prefer M.O. by a mile.
