I love all the classes and teachers. I love that pure barre is all over. When I am traveling I check out other studios.

Worst experience I've ever had with customer service. The class was disappointing as well as the instructor.

A former colleague told me about Pure Barre and how it's an excellent low impact exercise for any woman regardless of fitness level. I got a free 1 week pass to try out the classes and I had a great experience. I will definitely go back once I'm fully employed again! Highlights: - This is an all female studio, but I do know men can sign up for this class. In my short time there, I did not see any men! - All exercises are lead by an instructor while listening to pop music. Whether you are new to Pure Barre or not, the instructor goes around the room and helps you with your form. There are certain key words (i.e. tuck, hold, press) that the instructor explains and uses through the class, but for a more in depth explanation, visit the website. - The 50 minute classes go by very quickly, especially with the transitions between exercises. - No equipment needed, just bring yourself! - Pure Barre has a mobile app where you can purchase classes and view schedules. Makes it very easy for busy professionals on the go! Lowlights: - $15 socks required. You don't have to purchase their socks, but you must wear socks to each class. I highly recommend purchasing sets of Barre socks on Groupon that are much much cheaper! - Traffic to this location during rush hour is a bear. Try a lunchtime class or morning class if feasible! This is the true confession of a certified barre addict! I am a reformed cardio junkie so at first it was hard for me to believe that these teeny "paper clip" movements would really have any impact at all. I was amazed at how fast my body changed with just 3-4 classes a week. I have experienced significant changes in flexibility and overall strength. It has been seven years now, coming up on 1000 classes! My running shoes are tucked away in my closet, I prefer my barre socks! The community is also incredible. As a dancer, I've really enjoyed some barre workouts in the past (Barre3 and MOD Fitness in Austin). This studio just didn't cut it for me. Here's why: Having taken lots of barre classes and being a dancer, I still found the class confusing the first couple of times. The instructors didn't take time to explain the lingo or even ask if anyone had an injury so they could accommodate them. I have never been to a fitness class where the instructor didn't take note of who had what injury and introduce themselves or give a quick orientation to new students. In fact, some of the stretches moved so fast I felt like there was a risk of injury. It was also strange to me that they count to ten, instead of in eights to the beat of the music. The main reason I didn't like this method as much as others is that all the instructors taught the exact same class for several weeks. I did a month of classes and went several times a week. This got really boring to me. One of the instructors did mix it up after a few weeks, which I greatly appreciated. She also managed to ask me my name the fourth and final week I was there. The studio lost points for that as well, as one reason I joined was I had just moved to town and wanted to be part of a "community", which I had felt at my previous studio. Not so here. Perhaps if I gave it a bit longer? That being said, there were a couple of instructors who were definitely more inviting and friendly. In sum, it's not a bad place, I just have higher expectations given my past experience with barre and as a dancer. This studio made me realize I'd rather just be in the dance studio. read more

I began pure barre 3 months after my baby boy. 55 mins of core work is awesome especially after a c-section. I was able to modify in the beginning with encouragement from Kelly (co-owner) and after several months I was stronger than before baby. I definitely intend to continue this workout through my next pregnancy! The studio is great with friendly barretenders and great instructors. Pretty soon they all know your name and give you encouragement during class (or maybe even your first class). This is an amazing all over workout! Platform is a high intensity cardio class where you can burn a ton of calories. My weekly goal is 2 platform and 3 regular classes. I was never a 5 day a week gym girl in the past, but pure barre won me over and I can't get enough! read more

I was reluctant to try pure barre being that I have no background in ballet but I am so glad that I worked up the nerve because it has been amazing! The classes are varied so even though they work 4 main areas every class: abs, arms, glutes, and thighs, it never seems redundant. The studio is small so the instructors get to know clients on a first-name basis and give constructive and helpful feedback during class, which is something I never got in a large gym class. read more

I'm a NEWBIE with Pure Barre. I've tried it a couple of times in Houston where I live. I was visiting San Antonio and I wanted to try it out here. The staff was SUPER SUPER friendly! I felt welcomed and at home. The instructor, Marilena, was very kind and helpful. Her class was tough but I didn't feel judged at all. It was a great sweat! I love Pure Barre! If I didn't, I would've quit a long time ago. Before I started attending, I hated exercising; and I'm the kind of person that needs to see change immediately. I did, with PB! At first, I noticed myself getting stronger, toned, and more energetic. Once I started making wiser nutritional changes, I began losing weight and fitting into my pre-baby clothes again. But I also love going because the instructors are great, the atmosphere is positive, and the people who attend are friendly and encouraging! Everyone should give it a try! I will preface this by saying that I've always really disliked working out. After seeing some mentions of Pure Barre on Instagram and seeing a flier at my tanning salon, I decided to drop by to see what it was all about. The New Client special they were running coupled with the convenient location was enough for me me to give it a shot. Hey, it's only a month! One month later, and I'm so pleased with PB that I've decided to stay on for the next year. I honestly didn't know enough about it to know what to expect before I started, but I get the feeling that some are under the impression that PB is this frilly, made for Barbie, prance around type "work-out." Those pre-judgements would be coming from someone who has not ever tried a barre class, because I assure you that it's NOT frilly. Or sexy. Or easy. PB is the most physically and mentally challenging thing I have ever done in my whole life. I honestly still dislike working out but I am in love with and hooked on Pure Barre. Those 55 minutes are mine to be able to think about NOTHING outside of how badly my legs are burning and shaking. PB works every single part of you... Hard. It was suggested that I go at least 4 times a week to see maximum results. I've been 18 times in the past month and I can see a difference in my body and have made so much progress since day one. I can see muscles in places I couldn't see before. Different areas of my body are beginning to tighten up. The hourglass figure they tell you you're working on is actually starting to show... And people are noticing! To say my flexibility has improved is an understatement because I was not flexible AT ALL before I started this journey. I still have a very long way to go, but I'm pleased with where I am at and still consider myself to be a beginner. I've tried doing the gym but I honestly don't have the discipline to push myself to do the work that needs to be done. The class setting and the ability to schedule your PB classes by adding yourself to a class roster forces me to hold myself accountable. Plus, there is just no way I'd allow myself to quit or give up mid-class when everyone else around me is also shaking and burning and working so hard. My advice is to try it and just allow yourself to be new and go at your own pace. Compose yourself as needed. While the actual workout never gets any easier, with experience, your ability to understand the technique and what parts/ muscles you're trying to work on does get easier... Which in turn actually makes the workout tougher because you're doing it the way it is supposed to be done and well, it burns! The instructors are all super nice and encouraging. And seeing so many women push themselves to their limits for an hour is pretty motivating. The studio is super clean and cute. Lastly, don't forget your wallet because I promise that part of the PB addiction is all of the cute tanks and such they have available for purchase. Try it... You will probably love it too. read more

I have been going to another PB studio in Houston for 9 months now, and I LOVE the workout. Everyone there is extremely nice and works to know their clients. I saw a Groupon for this studio and decided to come out while visiting family out in SA. The workouts are similar of course. Marina, the instructor, was super nice and very challenging, which was great. The problem I have is that when I walked in, they noted in my file (I called originally) that I was new, and NOT ONE person introduced themselves to me. I believe it was the owner that was there with the lady at the front desk, and I was pretty shocked that at least she wouldn't introduce herself to a client. The instructor didn't either. Someone showed me where the cubbies were and that was about it. No one pointed out bathrooms, weights, wipes (which they didn't have - it's a spray/paper towel deal), or anything like that. They knew I was familiar with PB, but I still haven't been to the studio before. How frustrating. Also, even though I enjoyed Marina's class, her style was a little different than I've seen. I didn't think she demonstrated the movements as much as other instructors, and she wasn't as hands-on to fix form as I usually see either. To each their own, though. I'll be back to finish out my Groupon, but that'll probably be it. Love the classes, but the customer service turned me off of this location. read more

PB is one of if not the most challenging workout I've ever done. And it's the only workout I've actually looked forward to during the day! Sure, there's a learning curve when it comes to technique, but I've never seen any of the teachers be anything but helpful if someone had questions. They may not be able to help make adjustments for everyone in their class but they are always wiling to work with you if you hold the thought. I've been going 2-3x a week for about 2 months now and I've seen big changes in my body and my flexibility. Not only would I recommend this to someone, I think I'm annoying my friends with how much I talk about PB. I'm being assigned to Ft Hood and moving to Temple in a few weeks but I still plan to visit SA on the weekends and go to this PB location!! read more

Update- 2 years later and the addiction is real! This is the only work out I have kept up with consistently. What's the reason? It's a full body workout that constantly changes. You can always modify if you have an injury or to make it more of a challenge. Plus the community is so welcoming and uplifting. They will quickly become family. You need to come and try it! read more

This place will change your life. I had been looking for a workout routine that would be effective without taking 3 hours out of my day. It's 5 mins from my house and there are classes all throughout the day, so finding one to fit my schedule is a breeze. With the pure barre app, you can reserve a spot with the touch of one button. The workout is unlike anything I've ever done. I did ballet for years, fenced foil, have been an avid runner and yogini for the past 5 years, and this is the most challenging type of workout I have found. I still love me some vinyasa, but pure barre is my daily sweat life. In under an hour, I am in and out with a huge sense of accomplishment. I've worked my booty, abs, arms and thighs to fatigue. The girls who work here are amazing amazing and I love all of them. Everyone is super helpful, especially if you ask. In one class, my mind felt different. In 5 classes, my body felt noticeably different. In 10 classes, people began to remark on my changed appearance. So. Hooked. Get the sticky socks. read more

I'm very disappointed with this Pure Barre location. I have taken Pure Barre classes at other studios throughout Texas, and I have always felt like the teachers genuinely wanted me to understand, enjoy, and feel empowered after a Pure Barre class. I took a class at the Stone Oak location because I was on vacation in San Antonio for the Thanksgiving holiday. I was so excited because my mother wanted to try it out and see if the class was for her. The teacher was late to class, so she didn't have a lot of time to prep my mom for her first class, and then she didn't seem to engage with my mom at all throughout the class. That would probably be ok on a fifth visit, but her FIRST visit? Come on! And then, after class, she didn't even check to see if my mom had questions. She was sitting in the lobby checking her phone after class. So disengaged! I am sad--I think my mom might have really enjoyed Pure Barre, but not after the crappy reception from this location. read more

after attending pure barre for 5 weeks, i feel way more flexible and ready to get back into my old workout routine, which i had abandoned for some time. i definitely hadn't planked for so long since x-country practice in high school, and i was actually able to do the splits at some point, which i'd never done in my life. pretty impressive for just a few weeks' worth of classes! since my last review, this pb studio has really stepped it up and gotten their routine down for the most part. aside from their many improvements, i've noticed that they've really started to form and nurture a community, which is so great! classes were packed for the first couple of weeks, to the point where you had to choose whether you wanted to be running into the wall during warmup or knocking elbows with another person. the evening classes, which, for the most part were the only ones i could attend, were especially full. however, as time passed, the attendance faded a little and the classes were a much more comfortable and realistic size, both in relation to the size of the studio and the instructor-student ratio. i also noticed that the majority of instructors explained the techniques well and demonstrated each move clearly. there were still some who didn't, or didn't do this consistently, which kind of made class feel a little like a ripoff, since even in the videos, you can follow along and see how exactly your posture should be, etc. instead, there were many times when all of us were just kinda copying each other, confused as to what we should be doing. there were a couple of weeks in the middle of my membership when i noticed that classes consistently had 2 instructors-- one leading the workout and one actively participating, which was great for us to check our form and make sure we were doing things correctly. i'm not sure if this was an intentional thing or if the instructors were just attending for their own benefit, but either way, it was helpful! i wish it continued, but it would probably be hard to get 2 instructors for every single class. one thing that i loved was the 'breaking down the barre' class, which slowed things down and picked apart techniques for certain moves. i really wish that more of these sessions had been offered closer to the grand opening rather than toward the end of/after my membership. i think everyone should attend one of these before their first pb class, or at least within the first week or so! having that better understanding of the nuances of each move maximizes the exercise, and the results. i realized that i had been doing a bunch of things wrong, and kinda felt that i had wasted a lot of my time since i had no clue i should have been making certain adjustments. of course, i understand that pb is a constant learning process, and the more you do it, the harder it gets. i'm sure i'll keep finding mistakes to correct and will hopefully keep improving! so what's the verdict? would i recommend pb to my friends? yes! and i have! it's just that it is so far from the med center, where most of my friends live, and all the classes are either really early in the morning or at the worst traffic times. my friends were interested but called me crazy for driving that far to work out haha. even though i happened to have a pretty flexible schedule last month, with classes at school only going till noon most days, i found it really difficult to find a good session time to attend. 5:00 and 6:35 were my only options but traffic turned what would normally be a 25min drive into a 40-60min drive-- one way. :/ that on top of a med school workload made it hard to attend classes consistently. more classes between 1-4 or after 7pm would be ideal! also, although the classes are advertised as 55-min sessions, in reality, they run anywhere from 65-80 minutes. at first, classes kept going over time, which caused subsequent classes to start late. a longer session is more bang for your buck, but if you're counting on being done by a certain time to make it to another commitment, or if you want a more efficient workout, this could be problematic, especially because there is no clock inside the room and no one ever leaves early. overall though, i felt that the pb classes themselves were a good use of my time. some sessions were definitely way more challenging than others and i left feeling 10x more alive, but others got very dull and boring. i think it mainly depended on who was teaching, but due to the limited session times that worked for me, i couldn't be picky about the instructor. aside from scheduling, drive time, and gas $$, i'm also not sure that i could go 3-4 days a week consistently for more than the 5 weeks i did. since the classes are 70% the exact same thing every time (and 30% exercises on rotation), it got sorta old and the adhd in me craved more variety. by the end, i had most of the routine memorized. i'm taking a little break for now for hot yoga and bodypump, but i still love pb and hope to be back!! read more
