I have been using him to repair my small (8 machine) work-group as well as home computers for more than 3 years, and have found his work of consistent good quality and his prices quite reasonable. Often he has taught me things that have allowed me to do some of our own trouble shooting and upgrades as well. In most instances he logs into my computer from afar and is able to diagnose and repair without having to be on site, although at times he comes here or we get machines to him when really necessary. All in all The Computer Shop is an outstanding small business run by an upstanding individual who makes me want to send him business, although fortunately I don't have to call him often since his fixes generally work the first time!

I originally brought it to uBreakiFix, but they declined to try to help and just suggested I go get a new phone. I brought my phone into PC Warehouse in hopes that they would be able to dry it out and try to save my phone. Justin was very kind and helpful! He set expectations that my phone may not recover but that he would try to dry out the components and inspect the damage anyways despite being very busy and a lot of customers coming in. He was able to dry out my phone and luckily it's working pretty great so far! I really appreciate that he made the effort and took the time to try to help me rather than suggesting I just go get another phone. He did go above and beyond and offered to make alternate accommodations should my problem still pose issues.

A second, separate router upstairs because we didn't have a strong signal. Plus with the way the house is wired, it even took the cable guy a few hours to get us up and running when we moved in. Needless to say, I was excited to receive a set of eero wifi devices (1 pro plus 1 beacon) as a gift. Never having dealt with this mesh wifi network, I had a few questions about how I could set up this new eero system and how it works in general. Plus wanted to figure out if it would be a better/stronger signal than the current set up. Both my husband and I have been working from home, so we need a reliable signal, especially having to use Teams for all the meetings. When given an option, I always would rather go to a small family run business with a great reputation then a large corporate one. Luckily, I had a friend from high school that happened to own a company that helps with things like this for home owners. Even though we might be in IL, Louis was able to answer my questions and ensure I could set everything up. He provided quick, friendly service over the phone. Most people aren't aware of how sick all of the wifi is making us. Lou is very friendly and seemed very knowledgeable about what I was requesting. However the job turned out to not give us what we wanted. He sold us a package of wifi routers that all rated very high on my RF meter, something he assured me wasn't the case and when I sent him the video of my RF meter reading, he never even responded. Lou also assured me that the products he sold me had the ability to be turned on and off, this turned out to be false info and so we have a new system that is WORSE than our old one that I hired Lou to help us make safer and better. When I sent him a text message stating we wanted to return the products, he also never responded - and later said I was "stringing him along" trying to avoid paying his invoice, which completely false. He also initially did a very sloppy job, my husband was horrified when he saw it and insisted Lou fix it as much as he was able - Lou did make several improvements but we still had to spend 300$ patching and painting around the large holes he drilled (it was not explained to me how big the holes would be and how much the wiring would show.) Lou might be great at doing wifi but it turned out that he did not know a lot about a wired system. The worst part of my experience though was in trying to communicate with him about all of this in regard to settling our bill, he went several weeks without even responding to me and then claimed that I was stringing him along and threatened to send me to a collection agency. I'm sorry, that's simply acting in bad faith. I paid the bill in full, rather than deal with the situation any further but I will never work with Lou again.

After my MacBook bricked and would not turn back on, I first tried bringing it to UBreakIFix. After…read moreweeks of delays and false promises, UBreakIFix told me that the logic board was damaged and as a result, I would need to pay for a replacement logic board, screen, and keyboard. In addition, my data would be unrecoverable. So, after doing my own research into logic board repairs for my specific model, I learned that it was possible to fix my MacBook and recover my data. So, after searching for local specialists, I found ThinqMac. My first conversation with one of their employees immediately made me feel that I was in good hands. The gentleman corroborated a lot of the information I had found out through my own research. The technicians ran some tests on my computer and eventually sent it out to a company that specializes in logic board repair. In the end, after being told by UBreakIFix and Apple that my data was unrecoverable and my computer would never turn on again, the folks at ThinqMac proved them wrong. I spoke with Jonathan and told him that I tested the charger with a multimeter and it seemed to have the right voltage. But I told him not to take my word for it because maybe I didn't test it correctly. He took a look at the charge port of the computer to make sure it wasn't physically damaged. The port was fine. He took another charger and plugged it in just to rule out a charger problem; the new charger started charging the computer!??? Out of curiosity, I asked him if I tested the charger incorrectly by telling him how I did it. He said that just because I was getting the correct voltage that didn't mean that it was supplying the right amperage. This may be helpful to others that read this review since many of us use YouTube to try and fix things: I learned how to test my charger by watching a YouTube video by a "computer tech". He showed how to test a laptop charger, and stated that if the voltage is correct, then the charger is fine. He didn't state that the voltage could be fine, but the amperage could be a problem. The lesson here is don't rely on YouTube or assume the worst if you try to fix your computer by watching a video and running a test on it that fails. Just take your computer to a honest and helpful professional like Jonathan. He didn't charge me any fee to take a look at my computer. I just bought a new charger from him and I'm using the computer now to write this review. If I need help with a computer repair in the future then I'll just go back to this shop. Highly recommend that you take your computer there if you're having a problem with it.
