Breakfast is now being served Monday thru Saturday starting at 6am. It was great to pop in early and some libations with my breakfast. Bartender was great and very friendly. I went with French Toast and sausage. Very good.

We went for Sunday night football and although the place was packed the service we pretty quick. The wings were good, the spicy garlic and bbq were our favorites. The buffalo wasn't as spicy as the spicy garlic but they all came with sauced up!

Wings are big, juicy, and well cooked. We were surprised the jerk wings were dry rub, but heard they're great with the spicy garlic. I wasn't a big fan of the spicy garlic , but the buffalo were solid and the jerk was really good. The place was busy but didn't have a waitress or waiter for the tables. They also didn't give us plates or napkins until we asked. One of the bartenders did leave the bar to check in on us a few times which was nice. Also weird that they kept my credit card instead of returning after we opened a tab. Would do take out in the future or sit by the bar for better service.

Such fun. Love coming here. Casual. Local. Friendliest bartenders. Played pool. Good food. Served nice and hot. Love the house cut fries. This time we had the ends so they weren't as good. The chopped salad was so good. I took some home because it was a huge portion. I will definitely be back.

Ok, so it doesn't get much better than this on a Sunday funday. Seafood special for crab legs & fresh oysters, steamed clams & even shrimp po boy... what? Come on, we are in Bergen County where you can't even get a decent piece of steak for unde $40. With not much expectation, ordered the crab legs platter with mussels, potatoes and corn for $18.99. Wow, portions are super generous and crab legs were fresh & tasty. Bartenders & workers are friendly and we met some random patrons who became first name basis by the time we were leaving the bar. They serve local brew on tap and also have Sunday bloody Mary specials for $6. If you are in the mood for some deliciousness, here's a dive bar that offers a lot more than just loud music.

It says 12, bcz I didn't start the timer until I started to get impatient.

First time visiting thanks to the reviews here on Yelp. After a weekend of drinking heavily this is the perfect spot for the hair of the dog. Bartenders are awesome, the food is delicious, and enough TV's to cover your sports needs.

This is disappointing, because I've been a big fan for years, had previously given them a 5-star review, and had listed this among my 70 favorite bars (consisting mostly of dive bars) in the general area. Guess that list is down to 69 now. Here's the thing. They still have very good wings and even better burgers. They still have decent drink selection. But I come here because I'm a big fan of that classic dive bar look and vibe. I came here once with a friend and the bartender was giving us an attitude for no particular reason. I understand if someone is having a bad day, but we did nothing to her. Heck, I went to work the day after my mother's funeral and didn't give anyone an attitude. Yesterday I had two friends with me, one visiting from another country who happens to love burgers, so The Strap seemed like a great burger & beer combo choice. To be honest, the only better tasting burger I know in the area is Steve's Burgers on 46 in Garfield, but Steve's isn't a bar (plus Steve's burgers aren't nearly as big, and they're inconveniently cash-only, so The Strap made perfect sense. Well, we showed up and the bouncer immediately told us that there's only outside seating left. We said not a problem. He then said that we all had to show our IDs. We explained to him that two of us have our IDs, but one of us is visiting from another country and didn't think to take along passport for this, and we are all in our mid-40s and clearly couldn't fake being under 21 even if we had the help of a top Hollywood makeup artist. So a bouncer with an attitude informed us that we were not even permitted to sit at outside seating, three people in our mid-forties two of whom did have their ID's, because the third one of us visiting from another country didn't bring a passport? What did we do? We went to another bar where it was clearly no issue. And what are we going to do next time we want to go in a beer? We will be going to another bar, where it is clearly no issue. That was strike 2 for The Strap, but enough to make it strike 3. The competition is too steep to put up with such nonsense. There are better options than this, folks. I'll be throwing away my Straphanger t-shirt and not going back. My friend who also used to enjoy going here when in the area said the same. Done, not coming back. Check my stats, I don't leave a lot of negatives, but when I see reason to, I serve my community by letting them know why in my reviews. Still three stars because like I said, still good food and decor. But especially at prices that never stood out as quite the deal, why go back for the attitude when there are so many other great options?

Awesome dive bar! We actually found The Straphanger because Blackjacks was completely packed with eager trivia night contestants. With a quick yelp search, we ended up here! The first thing I noticed was the crowd. So diverse! It was nice to see. Everyone was so friendly too. Coraline, our bartender and server was fantastic. She's got that personality that will win anyone over. Drink prices are incredibly cheap here. Food is the same. We got quesadillas, chicken parm sliders with fries, and angry orchard and about 5 margaritas - which were the special of the night. Our bill was around 30 bucks. Ridiculously cheap! They've got a good late night menu. Lots of your good old greasy food plus some healthy salad options. Have to say, the chicken parm sliders were great. I would definitely get those again. They have seafood Sunday's from 2-9. I took a look at the menu and everything is super reasonably priced. Can't wait to try it out. The back room has some games to hang out and play. There's parking right across in the lot or in back. Awesome little spot!

My brother introduced me to this place and since then I've been a handful of times. I've always had a good time whenever I've been here and I'll probably be back. They used to have shuffleboard but I was just there tonight and I don't think I saw it. If it's gone that's a shame because shuffleboard is pretty fun. They do have a basketball machine thing, darts, and a pool table; all of which are fun activities. Tuesdays are half price wing night and also karaoke night. They're a pretty generous serving of wings and there are a good variety of flavors. the wings are cooked well. Good deal. They also have $2 tacos. The tacos didn't blow my mind or anything but they were still solid, I'd get them again. Karaoke is free and you even get a free shot if you sing a song (only applies to the first song). Through it all the drinks are pouring and it's a recipe for a good time. It can be a little bit difficult to flag down a bartender and the bar is basically the only place to sit. So this place isn't quite the best idea if you're in a larger group. I'd definitely come back for a fun Tuesday night.

OMG I can not rave anymore about this gem!!! The customer service was out of this world. The crowd was friendly and super engaging with the other guests!!! Mimi and her fiancé and the other gentleman behind the bar made my husband and I feel like family. We were in Hackensack and needed to grab some quick grub for the night. We went on Yelp and found this place! We walked in and was ready for a burger. After having the burger, wings, onion rings, and loaded chili cheese fries- we were impressed. This place is an all around 10! I can't wait to try other daily specials. Ps there's happy hour too!!! read more

I'm a post virgin and my first visit to a DIVE and The Straphanger did not disappoint. The customer service was amazing the bartenders are very welcoming and attentive as for MiMi bubbly and very upbeat the party starter and guys cherry on top she's a hot one! Now to the deets the food was fresh nothing processed they must have somebody's grandmother back there. And about those drinks I had the Liquid Marijuana amaze balls it's a girly drink but will get you where you need to be. I'm big on bang for your buck and this place delivers with daily specials. Let me not forget the new school jute box . A must visit and petition worthy for Food Network Guy to make a visit! read more

I like this place a lot and the guys running it are awesome. The shuffleboard is good, the pool table is good, and the darts are good. The food is very good for bar food and very cheap. Wing nights on Tuesdays kill it. I love their jerked wings, but the rest are pretty good too. The service is quick, and when it's not, they've offered me a round on the house. The beer isn't watered down, and they don't mind that I come more to hang out and play games than get wasted. Which works since this is a bit of a drive from my house. I need to get someone to drive one night so I can give this place my full patronage and get drunk here. read more

Good bar for the weekdays and Sundays...Weekend nights, not so much. They have a really rude bouncer at the door at those times, who likes to deny entry to local patrons. He'll tell you they're full (with open seats clearly seen thru the bar window), and don't ever try to point that out because it makes him get even more defensive and rude. You'd expect to be denied entry at 1 Oak, not at a local dive bar. read more

I went to join friends for a quick drink before I head home and was told that they were low on staff and can't let anymore people in by the door man. I waited and watched numerous people leave while one of my friends came out to talk to me and I was denied AGAIN. At this point I said how are people leaving and I'm just 1 person and can not get in? The door man just looked at me and said "cause I said so". I won't be spending any money here ever with someone working there like that. Totally embarrassing & unprofessional moment read more

I just moved to Hackensack and I'm so glad I found this dive bar. There's barely any space to move around the bar so you get real close with everyone! The drinks are cheap and served in plastic cups - love it. There's two dart boards, a pool table, and tons of tv's to watch the game. I especially liked how there is a bouncer outside the outer door (there's a another door past it to the actual bathroom) that sends any guy away. I'll be back often! read more

FAMILIES ARE NOT WELCOME as this is a Bar with food. The Bar and Grill part in the name is somewhat misleading as the typical Bar and Grill would welcome families for dinner. I learned the hard way that this establishment is not for families. The people I spoke with on the phone at this establishment should have informed me of this based on my phone calls before I drove to the establishment with my family. Failure on the staff to identify this when I am calling about a reservation for my family and asking about specials! To my surprise I was greeted at the front door by a bouncer who informed me no children. He was straight forward to explain children were not allowed, in more or less words, because it's not a safe environment for children. 5 stars for the bouncer for the information because I would not want to expose my family to that environment, 0 stars for the people I spoke with on the phone because they should be screening their phone calls better so families don't waste time! So an average of 3 stars and -1 star for the frustration of the misleading Grill part in Bar and Grill! read more

Okay, so me and my sisters were in the area looking for where to eat, found this place with good stars here's what went down: 1) Looked super dark from outside (this was during the day) but it's a bar so whatever right? 2) We go in and it's very very quiet asides from the tv the bartender was changing channels 3) There were a total of 7 men including the bartender, so 3 groups of 2 spread out at the bar. 4) The place smelled bad I don't even know what we smelled but it wasn't anything good We left because we felt super uncomfortable as we walked in and all the men just stared and followed us. Super sketch, but thought I would share in case any other ladies are planning to head here solo. read more

I went last Saturday night with a friend and we had a great time. We were card and our temperature was taken at the door. We were seated by the far corner of the bar and we truly loved that. All the tables were more than 6ft apart. We had beers, a shot of fireball and the Irish Mule which was delicious. The bartenders were great. I will definitely be back. We decided this was our spot. We felt safe and still managed to feel back to normal during this messed up times. read more

He supports local law enforcement and has had a hand in cleaning up the area as well. read more

I honestly like this place. I come here for the wings on Tuesdays and sometimes just by myself for a drink after work. People let you be, I like that about this place. The bartenders are great, helpful and not too nosy like in lot of places. They are quick and know their job. The pool table is always busy. They have a good choice of beers and it's nice and cold. I came only for alcohol pick-ups twice during quarantine. I loved the little buckets the booze comes in. And the drinks were strong! It's a small place, and when I went, (before the inside was opened again) they had a little walk up counter to order at. It was quick and easy, and affordable. read more

Beer and bite on way to Hack Hs game Missed happy and power hours, the "in between hour!" No drink specials. All day food specials. Prompt and tasty wings, tacos, quesadilla. Beer from LA on tap was IPA, tasty. Own back parking lot and door. Too dark for some in our crowd. read more

Came here just to catch part of pathetic AFC game, and to have some wings, Buffalo ones to be specific. It's a cozy small neighborhood dive bar, folks gathered around the round bar space. Folks were super friendly, eager to make you feel comfortable and to get situated by a tv for the game you want. Beer spcl was cheap, wings pretty good, looks like they have pretty good food specials all week long. All in all a good spot for some wings and grub. FYI it's not the type of space that warrants a group eating around a table, as there really weren't tables to speak of. read more

My girlfriend and I recently had a very bad experience here on a Saturday night. Not enough staff on hand for a Saturday night. You can not run a bar on a Saturday night with just two people behind the bar and to serve tables. The security which is good there should know when to stop allowing people from coming in when it's to crowded. We don't mind. Safety comes first. Plenty of other neighborhood places to go to if that happens. Our order arrived wrong. We left so disgusted that somehow my girlfriend lost her id The music is Too loud!!!!! Turn it down a bit so the servers can hear correctly your order !!!!!They can't hear properly!!! And also so customers can talk to one another at least. We won't be coming back for awhile I hate to say. read more

Amazing bar! Very diverse, absolutely love that you can choose which music plays through "touch tunes". Chili cheese fries and nachos are THE ABSOLUTE BEST. You go to a bar and they treat you like family-even when they're super busy. Very respectful and tentative staff-especially given covid times. They recently added a dome outside, where you can have your select group in it and feel safe/comfortable-which is the perfect touch for the cold nights! Of course I'll return, time and time again! read more

Either way, my experience didn't live up to the hype. I visited on a late Saturday night. There's a parking lot behind the restaurant. The entrance can be tricky to find... It's located in the back on the left-hand side. The exterior and interior are both pretty dark, dull, and dingy. It's not the most inviting atmosphere at first. It has a divey, industrial, and rustic vibe to it, but hey... sometimes the best food comes from places that don't look like much. So I try not to judge. It wasn't too busy, and the service was attentive. The menu has your classic American comfort food - wings, pizza, burgers, sandwiches, etc. They switch it up with daily specials like skirt steak, chicken parm, and pasta. They have a full bar with cocktails, drafts, bottled beers, can ciders, and wines. You can even do a four-beer flight and make it a tasting experience! I ordered: *Dark & Stormy Cocktail [Goslings Dark Rum, Ginger Beer, Lime Juice] ($14) - Not the best one I've had, but it was solid. If you like ginger and rum, this is a must try. The dark rum has hints of caramel which works really well with the spicy ginger beer. The lime juice adds a citrus kick, so it's a really refreshing drink. *Margarita ($18) - As a tequila girly, I've had my fair share of margaritas. This one didn't do it for me. It was a little too sour/tart, which overpowered everything else. *Cubano Sandwich [includes roast pork, black forest ham, swiss cheese, pickles, mayo, and mustard with side of fries] ($16) - I wasn't expecting an authentic Cubano from an American sports bar, so my expectations weren't super high. This was good, but not great. The pork was flavorful, but could've been more tender. I wish there were more pickles and mayo for that extra tangy crunch. The bread was pressed a little too hard, so it was a bit tough to bite through. *Double Blackened Chicken Breast Sandwich [includes pepper jack cheese, chipotle mayo, red peppers, and red onion on brioche with side of fries] ($18) - This was huge and filling! They did not skimp out on the protein. The brioche bun was soft and buttery. The chicken was well seasoned - smoky and savory with crispy charred edges. BUT... to my disappointment, the inside was dry and not juicy at all. Another small issue was the ratio - There was so much chicken compared to the rest of the toppings, so it wasn't the most cohesive sandwich. It really needed more cheese and chipotle mayo to tie all the flavors together. The fries were the best part - thick, crispy, and golden! It's decent bar food, just not the best I've had. Nothing was bad, but nothing was great or memorable. For the price, I didn't feel it was worth it. I do appreciate that their food is served piping hot and fresh. To be fair, this is probably the perfect spot for beer lovers. I happen to not be one, lol. The burger options sound popular and promising too. I'd consider giving them another shot for Happy Hour or to try a burger, but it's not at the top of my list. Just because it's not the sports bar for me, doesn't mean it won't be the one for you.

The carne asada tacos are great and come 4 to an order. The birria tacos come 3 to an order with a small cup of consommé. The highlight of this place is their house-made hot sauce. You can purchase it separately as well to take home. One is a habanera sauce and the other is an avocado jalapeño. I'm obsessed and use it on everything: chips, fish, steak, eggs.

I was introduced to this dive bar about a year ago by a well-known person in the community that's in law enforcement. As a consistent customer of this establishment that has personally gotten to know most of the staff and the owner, I can say this place deserves nothing short of 5 stars! I think having a business in the community comes with some additional responsibilities than making sure your food is served right and drinks are good. This establishment has supported many other businesses in the community, as well as held fundraisers, provide food for fundraisers, given monetary support for cancer victims, and Parkinson's disease, fed the homeless, and families suffering from tragic accidents such as fires, supporting children going back to school and the local police and fire department! All without wanting any recognition for it! He can be quoted saying "it's not about me, it's about the people". Thank you Straphangers for making my first year frequenting your business a great one. Congratulations on your recent 10-year anniversary of being a part of this community and I am confident your next 10 years will be even better!!! read more

You can find me at this bar almost every weekend. Its a cool local spot where you can hang with your friends and have a good time. The bartenders are amazing!! Very fun and friendly. They have great shot and drink specials. The power hour from 7-8 offers almost everything for $3, and there are other good specials throughout the night on certain shots. Beer prices are also great. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. Tuesday nights they have .35 cent wings. They also have a pool table, dart board, foosball table, and shuffleboard. Pretty awesome! Its a very relaxed atmosphere with good music and lots of fun. I started going there last summer and haven't really gone anywhere else since. This was a place I loved going to once in a while. The regulars are messy and loud and they act like they are accepting of everyone, but the reality is that they are clique-y and enjoy playing r kelly and telling women who express discomfort that it is a girls fault if she chooses to get involved with an older man. Even if she is younger than the age of consent. Even considering that some people would be uncomfortable, these people laughed and encouraged more tunes by the artist in question. I am throughly disgusted and never returning. If you like reasonable prices and shade by all means go to this establishment. If you like affordability and good service please seek another establishment like Buddy's in bogota or Leonora's or anywhere but here. It's not worth the drama. read more

Real talk? I walked passed this place a few times and I was like nah I'm good. But today? I had time. I walked in and my eyes were graced with this beautiful ovular bar only seen in the movies. The bartender, Keegan, greeted me with the brightest smile I've ever seen. She must brush her teeth with Clorox. Anyway, between the wide bar section and the arcade in the back I didn't know what to do with myself. I had such a great time. I did everything I could not to leave but it's pretty hard to buy drinks after you've run out of money. Straphanger Saloon in Hackensack is always a fun spot to play darts. The vibe inside is relaxed and welcoming, and it's a great place to hang out with friends for a few games. Seriously this is my go to for fun, great food and perfect drinks! I'm new to NJ and this bar is incredibly diverse and such an amazing place to meet new people, hang out and have a great time.
