The best way I can pay homage to a business that was a memorable part of my childhood is to say this is one of the BEST comic book stores EVER. The store has had multiple locations around town back to the first location circa early 1990's. Atomic Comics still serves as a haven where kids of all ages can immerse themselves in fantasy and adventure and stimulate their imagination. The shop has all things comic and pop culture from figures and toys, books and graphic novels, cards and games, clothes and accessories, even a section for manga and anime. The vibe of this place is a clean, fun, safe space where kids can escape and decompress. I would even say it is a therapeutic experience and positive for mental health zoning out to comics. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and personable and willing to strike up a conversation with patrons. If you need another reason to gather here, the store hosts a variety of events and tournaments which you can explore on their website for schedules and info. If there was a nuclear fallout, Atomic Comics would be one place where I wouldn't feel bad about hunkering down. Deciding to come here is not splitting atoms. Do yourself and kids a favor, create memories and make this a tradition with your children like my dad did, and stop in to get your kid to get a comic book (or 2) every week. You'll love it, 3000! Never give your business to this store. You'll be left disappointed. I called them in February before putting in an order for the Magic the Gathering: Final Fantasy Collector Booster Box to verify that they had enough allocation and that their online listing for it was not a mistake. They told me that if it is up then they have allocation. Fast forward to June when the set releases. I had to find out via reddit that Strange Adventures said that they do not have enough allocation to fill orders and instead would do a *raffle* vs queue order. They said they would post who won the raffle the following day. This never happened. They also said if you want to get a refund on your preorder, you need to *e-mail* them (vs them initiating the refund). There's also other reports of customers getting charged post-announcement as well. I've sent an inquiry e-mail days ago with no response. Fortunately, I finally found out that I could cancel the order from the Shopify web page directly (I don't think I saw the option via app) and was able to do so there. Like many other people who were scammed by this company, I made an order in April for my fiance's birthday hoping his magic the gathering final fantasy gift collection would arrive in June. Apparently they overestimated how many they would receive and made an Instagram post about it but never sent a refund for those who would not receive one. This could have been prevented since they didn't even release the orders yet when they found out but I still don't have a refund weeks later. Not only did my fiance not receive something he was looking forward to but we also got scammed and the company still has my money even after I emailed them. I pre-ordered the Magic the Gathering: Final Fantasy set through their online store and was charged for it about a week before the release. Later, I saw their Instagram post saying they didn't have enough stock and asked customers to email them for a refund. I did exactly that, and sent a follow-up email, but never got a response. They never issued my refund either. At this point, they've basically taken my money and I'm stuck going through the hassle of disputing the charge with my credit card company. Placed a pre-order for pokemon tcg Destined Rivals. Order was never filled and I've been unable to get in contact with anyone from the store regarding allocation/cancellation. I don't agree with the practice but it is common for LCS to take more preorders than they can fill, using the money to operate their business, and then refunding customers on the release date once it's apparent that they can't fill the orders. Strange Adventures took this a couple steps further by falsely stating that they don't take payment until allocation is confirmed, although payment was processed the moment I placed the order. They also have it written into their T&C that they keep 10% of your deposit if they are unable to fulfill the order. These policies are directly conflicting as on the pre-order product page it specifically notes that $0.00 is due at the time of purchase so there shouldn't be a deposit to begin with. I've placed many TCG preorders through comic stores over the years and this is without a doubt the worst experience I've ever had. In hindsight I should've just come here to check their reviews before making the purchase because it sounds like they did the exact same thing for Prismatic Evolutions and all of their recent one star reviews are from people that placed pokemon pre-orders only to get scammed. I found out about Strange Adventures a month or 2 before the Destined Rivals announcement. When I saw they had pre-orders for boxes, I went ahead and placed a few orders for a couple of different products. Prior to release I received order confirmations and the funds were deducted from my card/bank. Fast forward to release, no shipping confirmation, no email on allocations, no communication at all. I figured since Pokémon has exploded over the last year and a half, it was due to supply/demand the typical stuff. I reached out via email because these guys don't answer the phone, included my order numbers and just requested an update... 3 times no response. I wound up having to call my bank and have them issue refunds for all of my orders even though they were "confirmed" and money was drawn. Mistakes happen and I understand the demand and allocation issues within the Pokémon Hobby right now so I brushed it off. Now, HERE COMES BLACK BOLT AND WHITE FLARE. Strange Adventures stated that for this release, they will be changing their entire pre-order methodology. This was intended to prevent another Destined Rivals disaster like before. Here's the catch, they required a $10 non-refundable deposit on each pre-order for Black Bolt & White Flare. This time, I played it safe and only ordered 1 ETB of each (and yes placed $10 deposits for both). FAST FORWARD TO 7/22/25 a few days after release. These guys send an email saying they've got zero allocation and will be canceling everyone's pre-orders! So now what, they just keep everyone's deposits?? It's actually so ridiculous that it's funny. I'm not sure who's running the show over there, but their reputation is getting worse. I did a preorder for Pokemon destined rivals for 2 of the elite trainer boxes in March. On May 29th they charged my card and I received an email saying they were getting my order ready to ship. On May 17th they posted on Facebook they received a total of 4 elite trainer boxes. So no clue why my card was charged as they knew I wouldn't be getting the items.
