This is one of those places that suffers from only-restaurant-in-town syndrome. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and were one of only a few groups in the restaurant, if not the entire town of Iseltwald. The first warning sign was when we were looking at a menu, a tall waitress ran up to us and literally snatched the menu from us, saying, "No self service, you sit, I bring menu." So we said, "Can we look at the menu first?" She replied, "Oh, okay," like it was a novel concept or something.
When we sat down, it was overcast, but then the sun came out, so I went to get one of the small umbrellas that were stacked nearby. At that point, a rather plump male server walked by and, instead of offering to help with the umbrella, actually suggested we move. Seriously? What are the umbrellas for then? The laziness was astounding. This same guy came by later and, without saying a word, actually closed the two umbrellas that a nice, shorter waitress had kindly erected for us. Not sure why he closed them, maybe it was in case of winds? Who knows, since he apparently lost his ability to speak English at that point. Or maybe it was because he's a jerk.
In any case, no review is complete without noting the food, which was dry and uninspiring. The only redeeming aspect of this place was the nice shorter waitress, who unfortunately disappeared shortly after we arrived. Because of her, I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1. To conclude: This place has a very bad case of only-restaurant-in-town syndrome! read more
