This Ace looks small from the front, but don't be deceived. The store goes very deep into the back. I'm impressed with how complete the plumbing and hardware inventory is way back there. Very helpful employees here too. read more

This review is entirely based on a phone call... That said, if customer service is good over the phone, it'll be great in person. I say that because it is easy to give subpar service on a phone call without someone in front of you. I called yesterday because the Ace website said Oakdale had a Yeti Roadie 15 in the limited edition patriotic color. Sean (or Shawn) answered and went above and beyond. He checked their inventory not once, but twice. Then, when he couldn't find it, he helped me locate it in another store. He then called the other store and made sure they pulled it for me. That kind of service makes me want to go the extra mile to shop at the Oakdale location, just based on my experience. read more

Strand Ace Hardware - Yeti Roadie Sean put on hold for me. - Hardware Stores Near Me - Oakdale, California

New changes to the location have made this so much better than previous owners. Selection is outstanding and love the new look and outdoor nursery and bbq sections. People are friendly and welcoming so will be coming back again and again. read more

Trying to get our sprinklers done in our new home is a nightmare working with these people. Salesperson was somewhat chauvinistic and also not helpful at all. Inventory was severely lacking. Coming from a city that had a much better Ace Hardware, this was a bit of a shock. Looks like we won't be going to this Ace Hardware anymore. It's a bit surprising, considering that the other Ace Hardware's that are owned by the same person are much nicer to work with and more helpful. That being said, the people at the front counter are very nice and very helpful. Unfortunately, they can't help me find parts for our sprinkler system. read more

This review is based in the last 6 months or so. The I've been in here multiple times where the service just stinks. I understand remodel and all that but to avoid helping a customer or just have a snotty attitude is what pushes me to go to riverbank or Sonora big box stores. Today I came in for 2 big purchases back pack blower and an electric pressure washer. Or only did the employee look the other way when I made Eye contact they later just helped some one else. So I said screw it I'll go buy my stuff else where. read more

Love the new layout of the store, They have had everything I needed on my shopping list.. and Great Customer Service !!!

Fantastic helpful employees and great selection. Shoutout to Shawn who always goes the extra mile to help customers!

Nice store. Organized. They always have what I'm looking for. Staff is 50/50. Half are super helpful, the other half stand around talking to their friends rather than greeting the customers. Selection is good. Prices are higher than other places but not out of line for a hardware store. read more

Armando (Super Clerk!) intercepted me today (Memorial Day of all days to be working) asking what I was looking for (with my paw full of o-rings and a brass rod). Directed me to aisle 19, rhs. A few minutes later he appears to confirm I found what I needed. This store was busy, mind you. I hand Armando a 20.5" threaded brass rod and he goes and gets one to thread for me. Saved me several days and $30+. This store is such a gem! So fortunate to have these folks here in Oakdale. read more

I will start by saying they do not enforce the mandated face cover. They do have most things that you will need from bike tires to paint & everything in between. The staff is pretty knowledgeable in their own department. The store can be crowded. read more

Went to buy several items. Andrea, the customer service specialist, was attentive enough to see that I could not find what I came for. She helped my find everything I needed (almost). The only item I'm missing now is her positive, can do attitude and smile. Great job! read more

Stopped by here for some painters tape while on a road trip and wound up leaving with additional items I didn't know I needed! The store has an amazing selection, and every single employee (interacted with five of them) was friendly and helpful. read more

11/21/20 - I am no longer giving my business to this store. Management does not require that their employees wear masks and they do not require customers wear masks. Every other store in town does this. This is SO disrespectful to your customers that you don't care about their health, let alone your employees. No shoes No shirt No mask NO SERVICE! read more

08/16/20 - I originally wrote a review two months ago. I decided to stop by yesterday to see if things had improved. They had put up signage about mask compliance but not one employee had a mask on. Seriously folks? Covid-19 is ravaging Stanislaus County - as of yesterday there have 12,379 positive cases, 198 deaths, and average number of daily cases is still way too high. Saying I'm disappointed is such an understatement.... read more

Love coming to this establishment to get all my hardware needs. Additionally, unlike other stores where you have to ask for someone to help who are not knowledgeable, ACE always has someone on hand to help you get what you need. I also like the fact that ACE HAS ALL THE MARKINGS for safe distancing and respects all those individuals who are not able to wear masks...customers and employees. read more

Prices are higher at Ace, but it's expected for convenience. Typically, I get help and they have the item I need even if they don't have the biggest selection. I can look past the prices and options with good service, but unfortunately, that seems to have gone away. I used to get good service about 70% of the time, to be honest, I'm tired of the other 30%. Today I went in and was directed to a man on a lift for my questions. That employee was not only rude but also incredibly condescending. I've done more than a few projects, but he acted like I was such an idiot he would have to come down from his lift and stop his incredibly important task. Maybe Ace should stop putting their staff in uniforms if they are unavailable to help. I've literally spent close to 4k there for different items over the last 18 months since buying my house and doing a renovation. Unfortunately, I will be going to Home Depot from here on out, I don't have to pay extra there to get treated like garbage. Shop at your own risk, you might be assisted by a self absorbed jerk. read more

Always helpful and great customer service the staff there is really friendly and always there to help out and answer any questions.

Convenient I guess would be the right word since I believe it's the only hardware store in town. I have shopped here for years. Light duty home owner type supplies which is good, not heavy duty contractor products. The last time I went in, I found what I needed, walked up to a register and waited behind one other person. After he left the cashier irritatedly told me that for future reference, the line starts over there, pointing to the right. However, I'll take you now because there isn't anymore in line. REALLY ? I have never seen a line starting point ever here and I would have definitely waited in that line if it were apparent. Why go through all of the dramatics when there aren't any signs indicating a line nor has there ever in my history of shopping there ? I guess I wasn't crowding then was I ? read more

Locally owned and operated, Oakdale Ace, makes all their customers feel at home! We are working on a 60+ year-old home outside of Oakdale so the Ace Hardware store is a frequent stop. From finding the most obscure fastener/screw to a custom paint order, this team is the best. I really need to give a shout out to Kris R., "the paint guy," who was beyond patient helping us with our 21+ gallon order. He and his manager went above and beyond with pricing...the 5-gallon bases were not going to be available for over a week. They managed to give me 5-gallon pricing after all. They also held the cans at will call for my painter to pick up. Kris even gave me a follow-up call to let me know I left behind a couple of other paint samples! Now that's customer service. The checkout crew is beyond polite as well as efficient and super friendly. FYI...I would take the negative comments on Yelp with a grain of salt. Frankly, I find them hard to believe. From a COVID-19 perspective, the team all wore masks and signage at the door stated customers needed to do the same. During our frequent visits all customers were wearing masks. read more

This store is such a lifesaver. Friendly and helpful staff along with everything you need. Without having to drive 20+ minutes out of town. Sidenote: to those complaining about them not wearing mask. Stop making others responsible for your health. I support those who choose not to use the face diaper. #stopcomplying #stoplockdowns read more

Oakdale hardware is the best however the corporate company sucks. The company offers their rewards plan for being a loyal customer case in point $5 savings coupon IF YOU PURCHASE anything over $20 well that's crap next time I will spend my $19.40 some where else. YOUR POLICY SUCKER NEVER AGAIN read more

If I could give this place no stars, I definitely would. One of the managers, Mike, doesn't know how to treat customers, much less manage a store. I tried returning something I had for less than a week, explained the issue I was having with it, and he proceeded to call me a liar and said we couldn't exchange it for the same one, or even get store credit. I had the receipt the whole time too, and when I told the cashier I was fine with upgrading it, he acted shocked, as if I was trying to scam the store or something. I simply wanted to work something out but he acted completely uninterested the entire time. The cashiers and staff were nice but management there is awful !!!! I've never been treated so shitty at any ace store read more

Great staff. Nice selection! Always get a nice greeting and someone is always ready to help me find what I'm looking for.

We walked in and were searching for some weld glue and Evelyn overheard us and was awesome in showing us where it was and walking us through the different types. We needed help with another item and Mike, the manager was about to help when Evelyn again swooped in and showed us the merchandise while Mike said we were in good hands because Evelyn was his best employee. Thank you for everything. read more

This is a supply and demand kind of store. Being that they know they are the only hardware store in Oakdale, they mark up their prices. Overpriced items, very strict and stingy on returns, and not a good variety of items to choose from. As much as I would like to support my local business, they make it hard being so selfish with their prices and returns. Very stingy on military discounts as well. They only offer discounts on certain items. There is no way of telling which items the discounts apply to. You only will find that out at checkout which is a very inconvenience. Me being a Oakdale resident, I will not be shopping here anymore. I'll conduct my business at home depot, Lowes and Amazon for now on. read more

I visited Ace last Monday and was extremely disappointed to see that the staff was not wearing masks to protect themselves and patrons from Covid. Stanislaus County has a very high rate of Covid infections as compared to other counties. I observed one male employee with a mask over his mouth, not his nose. I saw a woman cashier with a mask hanging from one ear, and not even an attempt to wear the mask correctly. She was not behind a plastic shield. The man assigned to the paint department was not wearing a mask at all, and refused to wear one even after I brought it to his attention. Stanislaus has over 800 cases per 10,000 people compared to 500 cases per 10,000 people in Santa Clara County. But, Santa Clara county has THREE TIMES the number of residents that Stanislaus has. Is it because of this cavalier attitude of the businesses in Stanislaus County, that these high cases are present? I think it is a factor. I will not shop here again. read more

There is always someone there knowledgeable that helps me pick eight product. Very helpful and quick pickup.

Went there after two other places, to include Lowes in Sonora and only Robert had the knowledge to to locate the correct plumbing parts... much appreciated Robert and thank you Ace. read more

There is an older gentleman and 2 older gals that are great here the rest of the folk in this place must be super special never smile never say hello look like they are pained to be there or even help you. Worst Ace Hardware in the Valley! Customer service is terrible, and the employees think they are way more important than they really are! The store needs updating, and the employees let you walk around without bothering to ask if you need help unless you're a regular. If you don't like your job, or you don't think you're getting paid enough go work somewhere else but don't treat customers like crap! My recommendation is go to Strand's Ace Hardware in Escalon! Great store and great customer service. read more

This is my go-to place in Oakdale. The staff is always very helpful and they keep their shelves stocked with all the right things. It's also pet friendly, so it's been a good place to help socialize my puppy. I highly recommend Oakdale Ace Hardware. read more

Went into Ace a week ago and none of the 20 or so employees were wearing masks and that was after the state wide guideline for wearing masks in public went into effect. I asked one of the clerks about it and she said all 20 have medical reasons. Really ALL 20 employees. Hmmm. Won't be shopping there for the foreseeable future which is a shame because I like keeping my dollars local. And after the dust has settled on COVID I will remember those businesses that made things worse and continue to avoid them. Shame On you Ace. read more

I really believe in SUPPORTING LOCAL BUSINESS BUSINESSES. This store may not have the lowest prices but they are competitive. A friendly greeting and readily available customer service is worth every penny. I know I will get what I need and not get up-sold or talked down to because I ask too many questions. There's also a very well kept secret there... Pie . Yep, Pie! They have a freezer case with the most DELICIOUS, frozen, Take-N-Bake at home pies. Next best thing to Grama's home made pies. So give them a chance and support a great Oakdale business. read more

I love ACE. I practically live there. Have a lot of stuff that Home Depot doesnt have like all their air fittings. Doesn't have as many tools, but has enough. Best part... Free coffee as you walk in the door lol. I'm a professional woodworker. I like ACE's variety of glues, stains, air fittings, and especially their screws and other fasteners. Blows other hardware stores out of the water for screws. Still not quite as good of fasteners as Fastenal tho. read more

On 5/16/20 Ace had Clark Kensington paint on sale. Apparently there is a label change that makes the cans appear to be different sheens. I live in Oakdale and frequent this business. But I have to say, I have dealt with Robert at least 3 times. Each time he makes you feel like an idiot. Robert has a Series of breathing indicating he is unhappy to be bothered to help anyone. Maybe I'll go to Home Depot read more

Won't be going back. Today I was shocked to see only one employee wearing a mask. I paid for the one thing I had in my hand and didn't shop around so I could get out of there quickly. Shame on them for not caring about the health of employees, customers and residents. read more

Staff stared at me, no one said hello, no one asked if I needed help. After a while, of trying to find some weird clamps I was looking for, I connected the dots and they were keeping an eye on me as if I was going to steal something. I tried to convenience myself that maybe I was just jumping to wrong conclusions. So as I was searching for my item, I quickly turn my head, and caught two staff members just staring at me down the idle pretending to do busy work. They quickly looked away as I stared back. I found the clamps but I walked out without purchasing anything feeling violated. Don't know if it was my shaved head, brown skin, or loose clothing that made me look like a theft; but that doesn't give any one the right to make such assumptions. This happened to me in oct or nov of 2013. That was my first and my last time I have ever been there. I drive the extra 10 miles to Homedepot in Riverbank for all my hardware needs. read more
