Stracks is an amazing clean friendly grocery store and is the perfect size for my handicapped husband to walk around (unlike the megastores). If they don't have what you want, just go to the cashier and have her write down what you want for the Owner, Jeff Strack, and he will get it for you. I just bought the meat today. They took old meat going bad and wrapped it in a thin layer of fresh meat. The inside smelled horrific. This isnt the first time it has happened to me, it's an honest disappointment. read more

I really like this location and this store. The people are always exceptionally nice and are always on the move! They always have items in stock and I have not ever had to take anything back. A couple of times I've had random employees walk up and ask if I needed any help just on deciding which kind of product I was interested in. I've also put in request and they have filled them as well. They didn't carry leeks or fennel root, I asked and they provided. They are very flexible. The store is always well lit and clean. No clutter. They also have a bank inside. I've never had the pleasure of having to use it. But it does stay busy. I really enjoy just walking around and seeing different items they have on display. And if you like sushi, my favorite guy Biso makes a mean California roll and just about anything you can put in that wonderful tempted palette of yours:) I would recommend this place for sure. There is a 24hr gym in the same plaza and a DVD rental outside covered! The store cheated me by charging regular price for a sale item. Not a big deal, if it was convenient for me to return...but I rarely come this way. The customer service fail was not looking up my register receipt info and mailing me a gift card for the difference in price. Instead management said I MUST drive back there so they can SEE my receipt. How does that make sense?? If they only had one staffer who knows how their register system works, and he died, all they had to do to not make this my problem was grab my item off the shelf and scan it for proof. To make matters worse, attempting to use their "contact us" form on the website had me seeing a deeper shade of red because it's functionally useless. Apparently if you can relate your concern in less than a dozen characters with none being a number and certainly no punctuation...they may receive your message. Otherwise you cannot submit the form. Wise up Strack. If you make people like me return to your store to clean up your mess, it's gonna cost you much more than the value of the gift card you could've mailed out in the first place. read more

I've been shopping at Stracks for some time now and I think it's one of the best store's I've ever shopped. I don't expect perfection from employees or store owners. I do know these people work hard and have/good bad days. My prayer is that patrons will be generous in their assessment of the store as I remember thinking the stores would shut down and fearing the worst. Since the company revived itself out or bankruptcy I can't help but think we all should be grateful and continue to encourage the store and its owners. Great products and great people. I used to love Stracks and while I do love the addition and the bakery there is one HUGE problem I have with them...this is the fifth time I have gotten home, went to eat something I bought and realized it expired over a week ago...I have gotten crazy about checking their expiration dates!! Then today I slid a Mac and Cheese out of the box to see if it was ok and I find a huge chunk of mold on it!! I have a picture...this is unacceptable...they added so much food to the store that they are very bad on keeping up with the expired products...it's convenient to shop there so that's why I go but from now on I keep my receipts! read more

Its been over 2 years since I've moved over to Indiana. One of the things besides the many reasons why I miss Chicago is the variety of grocery stores. It was very hard for me to find a grocery store to meet most of my needs. I was on a mission and found my to go to store for almost everything. Great place to shop for your groceries. I love the fried chicken with all the fixings at the deli department. I say the chicken is the best in NWI. I love the fact that you can also purchase the fresh battered fish and have them cook it while you shop. Another good tip, the sushi at Strack's is awesome. I prefer the brown rice veggie sushi. They will make whatever you like. There's not to many restaurants that offer brown rice. This place will make whatever you like. It's like a market within a grocery store. Shopping there the other day I was in search for a particular portion of ground beef. Left with prospect for bringing home too much or not enough I resigned myself to going elsewhere. A gentleman, Deon, from the meat department, who had been stocking other meats whispered to me that some of the ground beef was on special. I thanked him before mentioning that I was looking for a particular amount in a somewhat lean variety. He searched the shelves and then asked me how much I needed. I conveyed my desired amount and he told me I'll whip it up for you. Upon his return he had a fresh package of the exact weight I needed. Deon did not have to bend over backwards but he did and to him, I thank you. Deon deserves the kudos and recognition this family run store has been noted for on many occasions. The one and only place I can always get my eggnog regardless of the season. I sent a feedback about eggnog one time and one of the workers called me to tell me when they were in stock. Highly dissatisfied. I ordered my wedding cake through stracks bakery and the amount of miscommunication nearly brought me to tears. I originally went in, places my order, and showed a photo of what I would like. (Mind you, my husband and I are not picky people whatsoever) I had asked my mother to pick up the cake to transport the day of the wedding, she stopped over to the bakery while grocery shopping to ask if there were any tips or advice for her to transfer a 3 tier cake. The bakery told my mother that they would separate all 3 layers and she can stack them at the hall herself to avoid the cake ripping on its side in transit. I call stracks after hearing this information and they say no that's not what we told her and so forth. The day before the wedding I drop my live flowers off to the bakery and show them once again the photo for reference as to how I would like the flowers displayed on the cake. The women reaches in her apron and takes a photo of my phone with her phone....on my wedding day instead of the flowers being all over the cake, they put every single flower on the very top. The cake couldn't have been more simple, we wanted an all white 3 tier cake with "sloppy" icing, no special design, with scattered flowers around it. Instead we got a white 3 tier cake with what looked like a garden exploding out of the top. Take your next cake order somewhere where they take PRIDE in their work! read more

my NEW local grocery store.....much much bigger than the one i used to go to in Munster.....but like all Stack's....very clean and everyone super friendly....so basically take the Munster store and double it....and viola :-) a big produce section....much much better quality than the Munster store..... smaller beer section, but lots of wines to choose from...... deli seems nice...everything all nice a fresh..... hint: the 4 times i have been here so far, free wings to sample :-) bakery: cookies or cake pieces out.....help your self :-) seafood dept: fish all looks nice and fresh...they will also fry your fish too....samples out 3 of 4 days.... and shrimp was out one day....hey i like free food.....shoot me :-) all in all a nice place to shop.....i Luv me some Stack an Van Tils..... read more

What a great store. I have family that reside in Griffith, and typically I would purchase goodies in Chicago before heading over to their house. But most recently, we have discovered a remodeled and awesome grocery store, Strack and Van Til. We love how organized the merchandise is, the number of sales and wide selection of everything. bought potato salad from the deli on 11/7 the sticker showed a sell by date of 11/12 got home and tasted it...the oil in the salad dressing or mayonaise they made it with was RANCID...made my wife and i sick to our stomach from one tiny bite each. returned it to the store for a refund, and NO ONE told the deli to stop selling it!!!!!!!!! they are going to poison someone... everything in this store is out of date or spoiled!!!!!!! read more

Lovely family owned store. The bakery donuts are soooooo good. Only down side is they are not open on Sunday, but have to respect that.

We used to be regular customers at S&V in Highland, no more, Only go there because of our bank has a branch there or we need bread or milk ONLY. I recommend anyone making a grocery bill there to check the "sell by date" and your receipt. more than likely you will be overcharged on something. The one loaf of Mothers Bread is went to buy was out of date by four days. The store is crowed with displays in the middle of the aisles. The parking lot is full of pot holes.This store has really gone down hill it's all about poor management. read more

This is one of the best grocery stores around! It is clean as can be and very well organized. Almost feels like a museum they have everything line up and faced on the shelves. Check out lines are always easy to get through. Only reason for not giving it that fifth star is that they can be pricey at times. Wish they would lower their prices just a bit. I just recently began going to Stracks. I love it! The customer service is amazing. I shop there for my groceries, but the main thing that I like is the fact that they have prepared food. The salad bar has just about anything you could want for your salad. The wings on the wing bar are good and their soup is to die for. My friends and I go there for lunch often. It's good food and not very expensive. It's worth it for everyone to try it. read more

Strack's has been my place of choice lately. However I was very disappointed that Purdue chicken was on sale for 7.99. And when I seen it that price again, it rang up 13.99 at the register. Turns out they had another sign for other chicken facing the Purdue in the exact same place as when it was on sale. Seemed like purposeful trickery to me. The manager on duty couldn't care less. Luckily our cashier wanted to keep us as a customer more than he did and gave us the 7.99 price. Up until that point I would have given it 5 stars. Now that I know I have to hire private investigators to make sure of what I am paying....not so much. read more

this place has a crappy selection of vegetarian food. they don't carry gardein or quorn like the other markets do. they run out of veggie chicken all the time. very poor!!! read more
