There's nothing in this world that my daughter likes more than berries, and since I'm going broke buying them for her, I thought maybe we could grow our own. My mom is my source of all things gardening, and she told me to go to Story's. I looked up the website (which is great) to see what they had in stock. Under "fruiting plants" in nursery stock, I found what was basically a comprehensive list of all the fruit I could think of...so we just decided to head over and take our chances. When we arrived and walked around a bit, I realized that they actually HAVE pretty much everything on that comprehensive list, because this place is massive and awesome. I don't think I can possibly list all the things they've got, but I feel pretty confident saying that their selection is better than anything you might find in the surrounding area: Trees, shrubs, evergreens, bushes, perennials, herbs, succulents, conifers, flowers, vegetables, vines...you want plants, they've got the plants. They've also got all the garden supplies you need...plant food, fertilizer, seeds, pesticides, tools, a gorgeous selection of pots, and hooks, and garden gnomes, and more. I didn't know I needed netting to keep the birds from eating my blueberries, but they did, and they've got the netting you need. I should note that my mom frowns on netting your berries, as she believes we need to share with the birds...but she's just a much better person than I am. read more

I have been going to Story's for 20 + years and have always been impressed by the knowledge of the staff. This week my visit was more than disappointing. While the staff were friendly, they were very uninformed about their stock. I asked about native perennial bushes and plants. A multi-page list was brought out, but anything we searched for, was not in stock. It would have been helpful if plants that are natives are marked in some way . This way if the staff does not know, the customer can more readily find. While I realize it is the end of the season for some stock, I was more bothered by the lack of knowledge about the stock. I will go back and hopefully find the same level of expertise that I was accustomed to. read more

This place has it all. Hundreds of perennials, annuals, trees, shrubs, etc...a knowledgable, patient staff (Judy was very helpful), accessories...you name it. We purchased a beautiful Norway spruce tree and arranged to have it delivered and planted on our property. The price was reasonable, and it's guaranteed for a full year...in case the tree don't take. After browsing some more, it was established that this place will be our stop for our gardening and landscaping needs. read more

I visited Story's for the first time and even though it's the end of the growing season there were still quite a few lovely plants available. Much of the material was larger and thus more expensive than I am comfortable buying but the roses were on sale for 30% off and I found a Lavender Crush shrub rose that I have planted and it is producing the most fragrant blooms! I love this place so much! From interesting and exotic plants to nice and traditional, they have it all. They are open year round (if you ever need a feeling of spring in the middle of winter, take a stroll through the greenhouses). read more

This is place is like going to heaven and getting your 72 Clematis virginianae. If you're into gardening, you hosta go here (sorry) at least once at this time of year and immerse yourself in Story Nursery's 35 acres of plants. There are very large areas for perennials, herbs, shade plants, annuals, trees and bushes. They seem to be very big on azaleas this year (I never have any luck with them) and their heuchera varieties are just astounding. The staff has an answer for everything you'd ask. And yes, it's a bit of a drive, but their no frills website's availability listings are linked right to their cash registers, so if you know what you want, you haven't wasted the 25 mile drive from Albany. read more

I've been a Story's customer for years now and as other reviewers have noted, this place is a "must-visit" for gardeners. They have a great selection of plants for every need.
