We had New Leaf Tree Services out to our place in Claverack (near Hudson, Columbia County), and the experience from start to finish was exceptional. We've got about 1.5 acres, and to be honest, we'd let the trees go unmanaged for years. There were large limbs hanging over the house, dense canopy blocking light, and a general feeling that we were out of our depth in terms of what to prune, what to remove, and how to care for the property responsibly. We also run an organic vegetable farm, so we really cared about working with someone who understands ecology--not just a company that comes in and cuts everything down. Caleb completely changed the game for us. He spent a long time walking the property, explaining what we were looking at in a way that actually made sense. He pointed out tree species, health issues, structural risks, and even how different trees were competing with each other. It felt more like getting a crash course in arboriculture than a typical estimate visit. From there, the office team (Dael in particular) made the planning and quoting process smooth and collaborative. We adjusted the scope a few times, and they were patient, clear, and transparent throughout. No pressure, no confusion--just a really well-run operation. When the crew showed up, it was clear we were dealing with serious professionals. There was a lot of equipment, but everything felt controlled and intentional. The crew leader walked us through the plan, and the team stayed in constant communication while working--radios, clear signals, the whole thing. The actual tree work was impressive to watch. They safely removed large limbs directly over our house using ropes and rigging in a way that looked almost effortless (but clearly wasn't). We never once felt like anything was out of control, which says a lot given the scale of what they were doing. They were also incredibly respectful of the property and mindful that we had kids and dogs around. That mattered a lot to us. They handled pruning, tree removal, stump grinding, and left behind wood chips we can reuse--everything cleaned up and ready to go. The biggest surprise is just how much of a difference it made. The property feels lighter, healthier, and more usable. Better airflow, more sunlight, and a huge improvement in overall safety. If you're anywhere around Hudson or Columbia County and need tree work--pruning, removals, or just someone who actually knows trees inside and out--I'd strongly recommend New Leaf. I had New Leaf Tree Service over to attend to some old Maples and trim up a Beech tree, bordering the road (one the town had scalped). I must say, the Beech tree never looked better and it enhanced the front yard. Why didn't I call them sooner! As for the Maples, they overhang the road, and their dead wood threatened to crash onto the road, a passing car ,a jogger, a cyclist, well you get the picture. Though the height of the trees required that New Leaf max out their lifts, they were able to remove dead wood and trim them up, hopefully to extend the lives of the trees (and my neighbors). I highly recommend New Leaf Tree Service. Their pricing is reasonable, their work excellent and they will leave your property looking better than before they arrived. Part of the work potentially affected my neighbors property and he met with them and worked with us both to come up with an acceptable solution. We had 2 rather large maple trees taken down in our backyard. There was not much ground space to maneuver in and a portion of a fence had to be taken down to get the equipment to the backyard. Caleb and his crew did a fantastic job. It took them less than 6 hours to take the trees down, grind branches into mulch and do such a great clean up that it was difficult to tell that they were even there. Pricing was very reasonable.
