    Fresh local vegetables
    Rachel H.

This was a pleasant surprise! Beautiful location. Friendly employees. A great selection of regional small business goods in addition to Gade Farm's own Local vegetables, all at a good price. I appreciate that they notate which veggies and fruits are from the farm as well as the ones that are from other locations. I went to get a couple things and left with a lot of colorful veggies. All of the produce looks really nice and fresh. I also saw the greenhouse, and it was beautiful and full of house plants as well as garden varietals. Looking ahead to next visit!

Been purchasing all of our plants and shrubbery for more than 15 years and have family traveling from Saratoga for their plants. Love their variety and usually high quality plants. But this year I was very disappointed. Bought 2 large hanging plants (about 3:30 on a Saturday) and 2 days later on Monday the flowers were wilted and shriveled. I brought it back to Gade around 2pm Monday that's less than 48hrs. The staff was very pleasant and took the time to look at it. But the explanation given was I must have let it dry out and to remove the dead flowers and it would bounce back. I don't know how that's possible as it was well water when I brought it home and the it rained the entirety of the next day. I had bought 2 baskets of the same flowers and the other was perfectly fine. Just very disappointing because my daughter's prom is in 4 days and I had bought these for the pictures. Now I need to go to another garden center tomorrow for a replacement.

I am looking for organic plants and asked them if they were. I was told they are not, which was so disappointing.

Then, several visits and purchases over the years make me feel comfortable and excited enough to revisit, mostly this location. The most recent visit was no exception. Colourful annuals fit for the spring were aplenty both in the front and the back of the store, and we found plants here that we hadn't seen at any other major garden centre in the Capital Region so far. Maiden grass was the awesome find on the most recent visit, and the staff at checkout answered our questions about plant care which was very helpful. The prices appear to be competitive, as we found both lower, equivalent, and higher prices compared to several garden centres in the area. Parking here has not been an issue and they have their own parking lot, and we appreciated they were open till 7pm when some other stores were closed. I hope they stay open for a long time.

My wife and I decided that for our first Christmas in our new house we would get a real tree. (We…read morehave for years used a cheap artificial tree from Walmart). Without really knowing what we were getting into, we followed a friend's recommendation to this place. We went the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and it was very busy. Online articles say that this is the busiest weekend for buying real trees, and if you wait too long you may get stuck with an ugly tree. When we arrived around 10:20, it was plenty busy. We rode a hay wagon up the hill to an area covered with trees, were handed saws to cut them down, and let loose. Many trees have colored tags which correspond to a sheet of paper they give you listing prices (purple trees cost X, yellow tags cost Y, etc.) Untagged trees are available for purchase but they recommend you ask someone who works there first for a price quote before cutting it down to avoid sticker shock. My wife left the area where the others were and hiked into the back portion to find the "perfect tree." She found one that was a bit too tall for our house, but we had to have it. We asked for a quote and it was well within our budget. Unfortunately, there was only one person doing quotes so we waited literally 20-30 minutes before the guy came and found us in the back. Had we selected a pre-tagged tree, it would have gone much quicker. Then, I cut it down and he loaded it onto the wagon, and back we went. They only accept cash or checks, and they won't help you mount it on the car (for insurance reasons we were told) though they do have plenty of twine. I don't think they bale the trees either, at least I didn't see it available. They have a small store in the barn with cocoa and such, though after a morning of cold and rain I was in no mood to investigate. We secured the tree to the car and headed home. The place was cute and had lots of nice trees. Ours ended up being $48, which seemed fair. It might be more than one from a big box store, but we were paying for the experience of searching it out, cutting it, and bringing it home. As tree farms go, this was a much nicer than the one we went to in the past and I would recommend the place.

The plant needed to be repotted because it was growing out of the pot that it was in. I was very leery and afraid of leaving it with the owner because it meant so much to me. The owner assured me that she would handle it with respect and care. About a week later I went back to get my plant and the owner told me that she left my plant outside in a storm and it was badly damaged. I was devastated and I began to cry. She told me that it wasn't her fault. It was an accident. She told me that she would try to nurse it back to health. She kept my plant for several months. I kept in touch with her. She kept telling me that the plant was doing wonderful and it's almost back to where it was when I brought it to her. When I finally did go get my plant, she told me all of my plants in my house and then my Shop died because I was busy and wasn't able to care for them. She was so rude, disrespectful, and nonchalant towards me and how clearly devastated I was. She said I saved some of the babies and I replanted them in this pot. She said this is all I can do for you and she asked me what do you want me to do. She yelled and said I asked you before do you want some money? There was nothing I could say that would come out respectful or calm. So I just picked up my phone and called the police. Because she was becoming I rate, screaming,, yelling and being disrespectful. I asked her several times. Why are you yelling? I have not once raised my voice, even though I am clearly upset. Her response to was because you're making me angry. While I was waiting in the parking lot for the police she looked me up and down and went back to watering. What was left of the half dead plants in her shop. A very nice police officer showed up a few minutes later at her shop. He spoke to me, then he went inside and spoke with her and came back out with what was left of a plant that was a part of my family for decades. She didn't say I'm sorry she looked at me, closed her door and walked away. I have attached before an after pictures of my aloe vera plant. The owner of this establishment is disrespectful,, unprofessional, and lack any type of work ethic and empathy for anything or anyone. Please do not make the same mistake I did and take anything to her and expect for it to be treated with some type of respect.

The prices for produce are high and the organization of the aisles baffles me. This time I had a plan: a short list of specific needs from the Asian Market on Central which I hoped I could find here instead. But daikon was too expensive, a tub of peeled garlic was not in sight and I did not have the patience to search for wheat starch or Pantai brand fish sauce. All that said, it's still a four star experience. First for the experience of seeing many Muslim families shopping together on a Friday, and particularly the happy customers waiting at the busy halal butcher when their orders are delivered. Second for the depth of product which challenges the casual shopper but lets me know this would be a good source for a very specific product, like an obscure fruit or vegetable or one of the dozens of middle eastern flatbreads on offer. The labneh section alone deserves an award for brand diversity. Like it or not, I know I'll be back and am glad we have Farmer's Indian Market in our community.
