Everything necessary to conduct a modern life can now be purchased at Wal*Mart, Amazon.com, or Dunkin' Donuts. Little deli-markets in otherwise completely residential neighborhoods like this one simply have no reason for existence other than nostalgia and/or a marginal level of convenience. Yet they stay open. And I can't imagine someone is making big bucks in the cigarette/lottery ticket/off-brand donut sales business. They're probably doing it as a commitment to the community, for the love of the business, and a sense of pride. A cup of joe, a good bacon egg and cheese on a hard roll for three bucks, a donut with bacon on it, just because the maple frosting wasn't unhealthy enough. Fantastic. Basic foods and sundry items as well. A little deli in back, a small selection of beer. You keep going back, not because it's the absolute cheapest, but because it's the right thing to do.

I've lived here for four years and this is still by far the worst grocery meat department in the area. Their flower department is the only bright spot. Big Y always accommodating and they have Prime and Choice. I always order for my bigger events and smoke competitions from them custom cuts. No up charges and always well done. So, we made our first visit to the Outlet in Southington today. The differences between the two locations were striking. Southington is much larger and seemed to have a greater variety of products. It was more like a mini supermarket complete with produce, frozen goods, refrigerated goods, and a dairy case. Another difference is their 50% off room, where all sorts of non- foods items were half price. We used to pick up coffees, teas, frozen goods, and boxes of cereal at the Canton store. Just like Canton was, you have to check the pricing carefully because pricing is a real mixed bag. The Outlet is lower on some items and quite a bit higher on other items when compared to supermarket prices. We did find a few good buys- two squares of frozen jalapeno cornbread and two mini packages of frozen chocolate chip pancakes. How does $1.16 sound for all four? Yes, I thought you'd be as pleased with that as we were.

A labyrinth of animatronics and groceries…read more Weirdly enough, never gone into a stew Leonard's before. Heard they had good deals on meat, so I made the trek to try them out. I wasn't mentally prepared for what happened next, but it was entertaining. When you first walk in, you get the full bombardment of sights and smells. Like a mix of a fairgrounds and a convenience store. Then all the displays and aisle lead to a zig zag path with no nice way to circumvent. You have to follow the path, and along each bend is the grocery's brand of products. Dotted along the path are a number of animatronics. Singing and dancing fruits, veggies, and animals greet you with a cavalcade of noise and motion. None of them annoying, but it's something you need to adjust to as you go about your supply run. Eventually got to the meat section, and the quality and price were fairly reasonable compared to competitors. They have large pieces of meat that the butcher can clean up and cut into whatever thickness you like. Pricing of the other groceries varies, and the selection is usually limited to a few options. But the quality of the staples makes it a worthwhile trek. The staff at the time I went was not very present, but the cashier was friendly. It's not a constant stop, but one that I would go to for the freezer restock. For those who have not tried them, expect rainforest cafe or bugaboo creek and prepare for a walk.
