This store has fallen hard. If your into getting service that involves 3 employees standing around while your waiting for service come here. Food court is extremely dirty. Bathrooms are filthy. Management seems to not care if the customer is serviced in a timely manor. I want to give a shout out to Tony, the produce manager at the Southington Price Chopper. That grocery store is the only one that sells seeded watermelon, which is a summer favorite of mine. They require you to buy the whole watermelon, which is not a problem for me. What is a problem is that I am 71 years old and can not carry a whole watermelon to my car and then into my house. I called up before I arrived at Price Chopper and asked if they could cut the watermelon into 4 pieces for me and wrap each piece individually so I would be able to carry them into my house more easily. Tony told me yes! When I got to the Southington Price Chopper Tony had chosen a watermelon for me, cut it, and had already wrapped each piece for me! He was so kind! There are no signs posted by the bottle return area that suggest that only one customer is allowed to return at a time, yet I was bullied by a customer into believing that I couldn't return my bottles until she was done. Mind you, she had three large garbage bags full. I politely asked a worker if this was a rule and he said "yes" but there are absolutely no signs indicating this rule. read more

And nearly every time, this happens. Price Chopper doesn't do little dinky sales either. They do the type where they cut the price in half (because usually it's that high to begin with). I am not someone who enjoys grocery shopping by any stretch of the word. Or shopping of any kind, really. I hate tons of other people around me, I hate taking away from other activities I do enjoy doing. But that's neither here nor there. Because this store is open 24hours i am more than willing to venture out at midnight or later when nobody else is out and get a few things. So, that's my two star rating. Convenient for people like me. However..... Make sure you check the expiration dates on pretty much everything you buy. Regardless if its "perishable". I've accidentally picked up many expired items that I wouldn't normally think to check. (cereal, granola bars, shelf stable iced tea, etc.) I work in the food industry and I realize that most food is still safe to consume long after the expiration date. But the point is it shouldn't be there. I understand some things can slip under the radar, but if they cared at all about the freshness of their products they would rotate and frequently check dates. I've returned everything and gotten my money back, but I still don't shop here unless I absolutely have to. read more

Overpriced for organic and fresh vegetables. When I have other options I avoid Price Chopper but when seeking out a 24-hr grocery store Price Chopper is the safe place to go. I think in general they're overpriced for the quality of vegetables you get. They're not always fresh and I find it annoying when there is too much dirt on my vegetables, it makes the cleaning process hard. My late night backup. read more

I had a wonderful experience at this store today. I am planning a vegan dinner for my daughter tomorrow and needed to find some items including gluten free pasta and vegan parmesan cheese. I was wandering around not knowing where to look or if they had those items. A lovely young man who was stacking the eggs offered to help me and gave me all I needed to know. Whenever I visit Lake Compounse, I stop by the Price Chopper. I wish they had a supermarket like this in NY. I can get items you do not see in NYC supermarkets and the store is simply huge. Checkout is fast and easy and the prices are great. I can only find diced beets at this store and - another item not seen in New York: New England Style hot dog rolls! I like to shop here! There is also a nice dining area to grab some food and relax while shopping. read more

Better prices than most supermarkets on Queen Street. They run lots of promotions, accept competitor coupons and double manufacturer coupons. The bread selection is always fresh and far better than any other supermarket in Southington. We especially like the wheat peasant loaf. The produce and cheese sections are also great, and you can find somewhat obscure things like a variety of peppers (poblano for my chili, please) and great prices on jarlsberg. This review would be 5 stars if it weren't for the meat selection. It never looks appetizing and there is not much to choose from. All in all a great place to do most of your grocery shopping. read more

Price Chopper has issues, not shire what is going with the Southington store, I think there not doing well!! I think there going to the dogs, beware when your at check out, don't ever bag your own items they ring up products that you did not buy, while your busy bagging. It's nice but the aisles are seemly random and its hard to find stuff sometimes. But it is cleaner than a lot of other grocery stores.
