I was so excited to try this restaurant. My husband and I drove over an hour to visit and expected a delightful experience. When we arrived, we admired the quaint old buildings. That's where the good experience stopped, unfortunately. Upon entering, the hostess was just initiating a phone call. Instead of putting the phone down (it hadn't even started ringing on the other end yet) and attending to us, she put her finger up and said, "Just a minute." We stood there for about 2 minutes while she conversed on the phone. When finally done, she directed us to our table. It was tightly sandwiched in between the bar and another table with absolutely zero privacy. We requested a table on the other side of the restaurant against the windowed garage doors, as the ambiance looked much better. She did accommodate, but informed us that our reservation had asked for the original side of the room where she had attempted to seat us, and that the other side had a different name. I didn't know that, obviously, and I can't imagine most customers who are new would think to double check which side of the restaurant they were asking for! She wasn't rude about it, but I did feel a bit scolded. We were seated by the garage door which turned out to be freezing cold. We didn't want to be rude and ask to be moved again, so we put our coats on and stayed. The tables were oddly arranged around us... literally bumped up against the bar, making it almost impossible to get past us to get around the other side. Way too many tables crammed into a small space. Our drinks were served in clear, plastic cups. Candles on the table and plastic cups. We both ordered salads, which took 45 minutes to be served even though there weren't many diners at that point (the crowd did pick up quickly, and the restaurant was fairly full within 15 minutes of us being served). My Mexican salad was good, but my husband's house salad was full of what is typically decorative lettuce-- not eating-lettuce. He thought it was gross. When the salads were finally served, hy husband asked for more water in his cup since his was empty and no attempt to see if he needed more had been made. My cup was half empty. Our waitress came over with a pitcher, filled up his cup, left mine half full, and left! I was about to embark on a salad with sliced jalapenos on it, so I had to ask her to come back and fill up my cup, which seemed to irritate her a bit. It just made no sense. But here's the best part: During our meal, one of the waitresses dropped a stack of folders containing credit cards, and the cards went everywhere. In the craziness of picking them up, one turned up missing. Within minutes, the wait staff began crawling around the floor, shining flashlights under tables (including ours), moving tables to see under, etc. By this point, my husband and I were just wide-eyed. I've never had an experience like this. After about 10 minutes of this, the poor man whose credit card had been lost joined them in the search. The same tables were moved back and forth by different people... more people crawling around with flashlights. Eventually the card was found in another room, and the restaurant broke into applause since basically every table had been inconvenienced by this fiasco. We had planned to pay with credit card, but we decided we'd better just do cash. This is the type of restaurant you see on those TV shows where the expert comes in and does some sort of extreme makeover. This place needs HELP. Needless to say, we'll never be back. It's unfortunate, because this place could be stellar if managed by someone who is competent. read more
